I also encourage writers to develop their public speaking skills. I go to quite a few writer’s talks and usually buy the book, although I don’t always read them. People are often looking for speakers for events etc.

As you would appreciate, I think it can be very difficult for writers to switch hats from writing to publicity. These seem to be quite different tasks to me. I have worked in marketing for years and have a natural sales personality but still struggle with the promotional side of things. I have been intending to turn my posts into articles and get an income but even switching gears that way, the writing gets in the way.
I’d also imagine that many writers aren’t as outgoing and this need to put yourself out there to sell your work is really daunting. xx Rowena
