Welcome to the Cafe and Bookstore Update and today I am going to review another book that I received at Christmas as a gift.. the second book by John W. Howell, His Revenge starring John Cannon.
About the book.
America loves John Cannon, its newest hero, and the President wants to present him with the highest civilian medal for bravery for saving the Annapolis midshipman from a terrorist plot to destroy them. While in Washington for the award ceremony, John unwillingly becomes an accomplice in another plan by the same group to attack the credibility of the US President and the stability of the worldwide oil market. There is no way out as John either becomes a traitor to America or causes thousands of innocent people to die if he refuses.
The second John J Cannon Thriller moves from a barrier Island off the coast of Texas to Washington DC, then to Northern California, and finally to Ecuador. John is on the receiving end of an offer he cannot, refuse. His avowed enemy Matt Jacobs now wants John to help him shake the reputation of the US in the world political arena. If John refuses, Matt plans to murder innocent Americans including John’s latest relationship. John’s only way out is to pretend to go along with the plan and hope for a miracle.
My review for His Revenge.
I received all three of John W. Howell’s books featuring John Cannon as a gift at Christmas and so was able to follow up on the first book My GRL quite quickly. I think that was a benefit as some of the characters that follow John Cannon into the second book were familiar. There was some recap in the first couple of chapters and that helped get the action packed book off to a good start.
John Cannon is not your typical hero, and for those used to the Steven Segal or Arnold Schwarzenegger approach to villains, it may make you wonder how he is going to survive. He does so by using brain power rather than brawn and manages to manipulate himself in and out of situations cleverly. With a the stability of the US at stake and the lives of thousands, including someone he loves, John Cannon is faced with a seemingly impossible choice.
The action is non-stop and the pace is maintained throughout the story. I am looking forward to the third book Our Justice and to share John Cannon’s next adventure. Overall I would recommend His Justice to those who enjoy a good thriller.

For the last update today new reviews for M.C.V. Egan’s book published in January 2017; Death of a Sculptor in Hue, Shape and Color
About the book
Color coded love stories and revealing female anatomies lead to the murder of world renowned sculptor, Bruce Jones.
In life, the artist loved women, almost as much as women loved him. Adored for his art and colorful personality, Bruce is mourned by the world at large. The tale is launched with the multifaceted perspectives of four ex-wives, the current wife, and his new love interest and their children.
Mary , Bruce’s wealthy first love, is always in perfect pink; the color of love. Mother of Clair the famous actress and Aaron the corporate lawyer.
Leslie The Second’s color is yellow for her sunny nature as much as for her fears and insecurities. Her only son Bobby is vulnerable and lost. Mourning his father’s death, he finds himself.
Petra The Third, is outstanding in orange, representing not only her native Holland but also her love of the fruit. Cherished her freedom and had no children of her own.
Toni The Fourth is a vibrant passionate Italian red and part of the eventual glue that creates and solidifies this dysfunctional Jones family. Her teenage daughters Tina and Isa are as different as night and day.
Brooke The Fifth a gold-digger. Green, her color, reflects the color of money and envy. Her young son’s Kyle and Caleb are too young to understand why their world has been turned upside-down.
Mara, as blue as the ocean was the last woman to steal Bruce’s heart. Mother to newborn Baby Peter is the unexpected gift and surprise.
Bruce Jones’ eight children speak out, too. They are as distinctive as the women he loved, their mothers.
Loose ends are tied up by the insights of Sylvia, Aaron’s wife and a trusted keeper of secrets; Scott, the private investigator and family friend; Nona, the quintessential grandmother everyone loves but to whom few are truly related; and Detective Jim Miller who will not rest until he discovers Bruce Jones’ murderer.

I absolutely loved how the author wrote this story. This author has always had a unique style of writing and can reel in and capture her audience with her words on paper and this story is no different. This story was so much fun to read!! It was a magnificent mystery full of surprises, and a few giggles, that I didn’t see coming, with a remarkable twist to it at the end. The characters were incredible and the story-line was just fantastic.
I loved how we got to know the thoughts and feelings of each individual character that played a roll in Bruce’s life. I also loved how each ex-wife was a different color in the sculptor’s mind and how the death of Bruce brought the whole family together in the end. This was a great work of art and I can say that I believe that this author is a complete genius!!
I highly recommend this story to all adults to enjoy!!
