In the last post I asked how we might enourage our readers to leave a review for the book. https://smorgasbordinvitation.wordpress.com/2017/04/18/how-can-we-encourage-more-readers-to-leave-reviews-for-our-books/
Of course if they do feel they can leave a review on our Amazon or Goodread book pages that is fantastic. But asking for a review is not the only page at the back of our Ebooks that can be used for promotional purposes.
Having finished a book, what is usually the first thing on a reader’s mind?
What am I going to read next?
If you are an author who has written more than one book, there is an opportunity to guide the reader to your other work. Not just with a live link to your Amazon account but with full page promotions for each of your books.
At the back of my books is an individual page for each book with a full description and links to buy you can also add one of your reviews you have received although it can be a little too much for a reader to take in.. I choose to send people to my own book selling site because I offer the books at a discount there. But you can provide a link to your author page on Amazon just as easily and mention that they can read recent reviews there.
Even if this is your first book you can still use this as a marketing opportunity to promote your work in progress and whet a reader’s appetite. Great if you already have a cover, but certainly if your book is part of a series, it will remind the reader there is more to come.
The beauty of Ebooks is that you are not paying per page as you are with print versions and you are also able to provide live links to buy your other work. There is a slight increase in cost for Kindle with the addition of pictures but it is not excessive, especially if it leads to more sales of your books.
It is also a great idea to put your bio and photograph which will put a face to the name for your reader and if you wish, links to your social media. I have the link to my blog on my bio where the reader can find out how to connect to me.
This is a simple way to promote your books to a person who has already liked what they have read. It builds a connection with them, and if they already love your writing, they don’t have to look any where else for their next book to buy.
Also regular customers who are happy customers tell others and that sells more books.
A number of people have told me that they do not have E-readers and have no way to download Ebooks from Amazon or any other site. We use Calibre on our PC’s to download and manage the books we buy and you can either read on your PC or transfer to your mobile reading devices. It is free which is a bonus and we do recommend.

a very good post Sally, marketeing is a nightmare for the uninitiated like myself. Mass marketing is something I am reluctant to engage in as it is tantamount to selling door to door.

Well you have a good book that people obviously enjoy.. Selling door to door is a shotgun approach to marketing whereas doing this kind of promotion is targeted marketing to someone who has already enjoyed your work. As an author you are entitled to do a certain amount of self-promotion on your website and on social media..That is why there is the option to have an author’s page on FB so that people who visit there expect to hear your news about your book. The other side of this is that if you promote others they will do so in turn .. as you are kindly doing for me here and on Twitter. By following authors on Twitter and retweeting their pinned tweets from time to time is usually reciprocated. We all started with one book and wondering what to do next.. You just need to take one step at a time and get that right and then move onto the next.. it will come.

You are ofcourse right, though I´m afraid beating my own drum was never something I was any good at.
I came into this world without one and in all probabillity will depart it in the same fashion 🙂
The writing is the easy part, its what follows next is the real challenge.

Good post Sally! And hello to Ribban- and every one else. Ribban, I think marketing is more enjoyable when done organically, which is what Sally is suggesting here. It seems natural to tell a reader who read your whole book- what comes next. And the same way with Twitter, etc. You and I chatted on Twitter and then you asked me to look at your book- which seemed natural and friendly to me. We’re all in this together!

In the back matter of ebooks I always offer some additional reading blurbs with links, but I haven’t thought to add a cover or two along with them. Great idea! Thanks, Sally!

Fab post Sal! I’m happy to say that I do already add my links, other books, etc at the end of my books but I know many new authors aren’t aware of the benefits and opportunities. And great addition to the post about Calibre. Incidentally, I have a post coming out tomorrow about what you can do with a Kindle, lol. 🙂 ❤

Thanks Debby and will keep an eye out for your post.. I know there is a lot to take on board for new authors but there is no need for them to reinvent the wheel…♥
