Welcome to the Friday edition of the Cafe and Bookstore and another packed post today with new books and a FREE offer of a book for review. First author to feature is Mira Prabhu with Copper Moon Over Pataliputra, the third book in her Moksha Trilogy.
About Copper Moon Over Pataliputra
Against the dazzling epochal backdrop of the Mauryan Empire in ancient India, celebrated for its liberal, humanist and free-thinking traditions, a gripping saga of love, betrayal, hatred and magical transformation sinuously weaves itself. Copper Moon relates the fascinating tale of Odati, daughter of Emperor Ashoka by stunning Urvashi, a Kalingan devadasi.
When a great horror strikes, and Odati’s tender young life hangs in the balance, it is the Egyptian Kahotep, Grand Eunuch of Maurya, who risks his own life to spirit her to safety. Within his protective embrace, Odati disguises herself as Amunet and gradually grows into a singer whose angelic skill enchants the elite of Pataliputra. And yet, beneath her lovely façade lurks a cunning assassin waiting for the perfect opportunity to inflict hellish suffering on the man who drove her into the abyss of hell. Impervious to the luminous teachings of Gautama Buddha and other great sages, Odati relentlessly pursues her diabolic quest for revenge. Then, in another bizarre twist of fate, her evil is discovered and she is once again forced to flee for her life. It is now that the jewel-like wisdom she has so fiercely resisted begins to open the reluctant petals of her heart.
An early review for the book
Copper Moon Over Pataliputra paints a fascinating and in depth picture of ancient India, but doesn’t leave out the reality. Life on earth will always entail evil people, suffering and soul searching. Although far from just glamorous, the history of India is rich and can serve as an advanced model of cultural sophistication even to this day. What is most nourishing about this book is the spiritual and philosophical insight that it reveals, especially concerning the laws of karma, and the end result of spinning a dangerous tale of lies. It is entirely relevant. All good art is timeless, and I think this book will be one for the ages!

The next author with a new book to add to the shelves is C. S. Boyack with a short story collection, The Enhanced League.
The Enhanced league is a collection of short stories and anthems centered around a year in a fictional baseball league. It has a slight science fiction background. This league has a lot more pomp than you might be used to, and nobody seems to care if the players use performance enhancing drugs.
Stories involve existing heroes, up and comers, and falling stars. While there are the obvious stories that take place on the field of play, there are also human interest stories that take place around the baseball gyrations. These stories involve scouting, trades, ruthless business decisions, and even relationships.
I enjoyed researching and bringing you The Enhanced League, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. — CB
The most recent review for The Enhanced League
This is an anthology of short stories and anthems, but not like any I’d read before. This collection takes place in one story world over the course of one year and follows an assortment of fascinating characters in a baseball league that not only allows, but encourages, physical enhancements.
This is indeed a baseball world, but the anthology is really about the characters, not the sport. We have an athlete whose injury forced him into the league, a left-handed catcher who couldn’t get a chance elsewhere, a rookie, a villainous player, female umpires, a technician, commentators, businessmen… so many complex, multi-faceted people to follow through the league and the year. Each story is more compelling than the next.
The characters are engrossing, the anthems are riveting, and the advancing plot is captivating. Baseball lovers will clearly love this, but honestly, anyone interested in character drama will enjoy this anthology. Boyack has a way of balancing strong characters with speculative concepts to create gripping stories that entertain everyone.

About Amanda in New Mexico – Ghosts in the Wind
Amanda Ross is on a school trip to Taos, New Mexico to collect material for writing projects. She is travelling with Cleo, a classmate who believes in ghosts and insists she keeps seeing them. Amanda doesn’t believe in ghosts and is determined to prove there is no such thing. When weird, unexplainable things start to happen to Amanda, she questions her denial of the supernatural.
Join Amanda as she visits a typical hacienda, an ancient pueblo, a painting that changes dramatically and a spooky hotel with the ghost of a murdered cowboy haunting the rooms. Can Amanda escape from the eerie wind that follows her everywhere she goes?
Here is one of the advance reviews so far
Molly Ringle rated it 5 Stars.
New Mexico is indeed an enchanting place, and Darlene Foster brings it to lovely, haunting life in this installment of Amanda’s adventures. Sixth-grader Amanda is a brave traveler, up for anything, and definitely doesn’t believe in ghosts…but even she starts getting spooked and wondering if she needs to change her mind when she goes on a class trip to Taos and vicinity, with all its Old West locales with turbulent pasts. Delightful armchair travel, as ever from Darlene’s books, as well as enticingly spooky ghost stories–what’s not to like?
