About Lines of Listening.

Lines of Listening: A Memoir of Child Abuse and Marital Betrayal traces her ancestors’ passage from their German homeland through the family’s multigenerational struggle to survive abuse and betrayal. Relating personal accounts of familial interactions verifies and endeavors to explain evil and horrific episodes committed by family members, who had vowed to love and protect each other. This book was written to help explain why such events occur and to soften the pain for others when they may encounter such events.

Two of the reviews for Lines of Listening

Wow, amazing stories of generational abuse, heart wrenching at times leading to a hopeful solution to let go of the pain and live…

The book is well written in a short story format. It is easy to flip page, after page but difficulty to put down. The author relates stories from her life that some may relate to and others are just interested to read.

Honestly though, who hasn’t been betrayed in life? This book uses those sorrows and struggles to relate feelings that can only be understood through the “Lines of Listening.”
Great, easy, interesting read!

Delighted to share the news of another new book this time John W. Howell with Circumstances of Childhood.

About Circumstances of Childhood.

When a former pro football star and broadcaster, now a Wall Street maven is accused of insider trading, will he be able to prove his innocence and expose those who are guilty?

Greg and his boyhood pal dreamed of big success in professional football and then later in business. Greg was the only one to live the dream. Now the founder of an investment fund Greg is faced with a routine audit finding by the SEC. The audit points to irregularities and all the tracks lead to Greg. The justice department hits him with an indictment of 23 counts of fraud, money laundering, and insider trading. His firm goes bust, and Greg is on his own.

His best friend knows he is innocent but has been ordered under penalty of eternal damnation not to help.

If you enjoy stories of riches to rags, redemption, brotherly love, and a little of the paranormal, Circumstance of Childhood will keep you riveted.

An early review for the book

Circumstances of Childhood is a fictionalized memoir that draws the reader through the loss of loved ones, the sorrow of a broken marriage, and the devastation of financial ruin. It is a coming of age drama that is like none other I’ve read. It straddles heaven and earth as the mystical realm reaches across the divide to provide comfort and wisdom during times of great distress.

This book tugged at my heartstrings and gave me pause about life’s purpose; it also kept me on the edge of my seat. It has traces of a thriller wrapped in a mystery, but it also reads as a different kind of love story, one that is ultimately an embrace of life.

There are messages interwoven throughout this book – of determination and strength, of fair-mindedness and kindness, of hope triumphant over despair. These themes linger even after the turn of the last page, which is a testimony to author John Howell’s writing expertise. I strongly recommend this book as it was a definite 5-star read for me.

And the last update today is for Annette Rochelle Aben and her book of poetry Perspective which has just received a terrific review.

About the book

Everything in this book is designed to lighten the load, uplift the spirit or otherwise aid in shifting one’s perspective on life. Because the only thing we have going for us sometimes is our outlook. May you always believe that something wonderful is about to happen and that something good will come out of every situation you are experiencing. It really IS all about replacing one thought with another!

The most recent review

This is a book of inspirational poems, prayers or blessings. They have a nice sound and they often contain rhyme. Some are acronyms where the first letter of the word spells out the message underlying the other words. The blessings are all positive as good blessings should be.

The author has other books, maintains a blog and writes at the online The Magic Happens Magazine. So there are other opportunities to read more of her writing.

The ebook is laid out in an interesting way. Unlike a poetry book, which is what I thought this was initially, each poem is not on its own page nor are there titles for the poems individuating them. If they were laid out in that manner, the book would have perhaps three times as many pages in it. These writings are more fluid than isolated poems which makes me think they are not really poems although one might be able to pick them apart like that. So I changed my perspective and experienced them as prayers or meditations that interweave and become one blessing inviting the reader to make even more changes in perspective.
