John Rieber with his three contenters for The Greatest Rock Anthems of all Time.. I love the Beatles but I would probably go for Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin.
Classic Rock!
Well, as you can see Roger Daltry and Pete Townsend are over the moon with excitement about this new post. Take a moment to be impressed with just HOW HIGH Townsend leaps during his guitar playing!
For many, “classic rock” is the greatest genre of music ever thanks to The Who and many other bands. Classic rock consists of timeless songs like “Layla”, “Freebird”, “Smoke On The Water” and many, many more…but what is the greatest rock anthem of all time?
“Valhalla, I Am Coming…”
Led Zeppelin created some of the great rock songs of all, with lyrics like these:
“Hammer of the gods will drive our ships to new land.
To fight the hordes and sing, and cry.
Valhalla, I am coming…”
Just seeing pictures of Led Zeppelin in concert tells you that this band KNEW they were mythical: HAMMER OF THE GODS indeed!

Yes, the post was designed to spark debate – and of course I heard from fans of CSNY, David Bowie, Queen, KISS, Springsteen and so many more – which is great, because it just confirms how important music is to all of us and how it makes an emotional connection with all of us!

I would not put Beatles in Rock category. They are their own category. That leaves Led Zep, Doors and Stones at top three. I’d go with Led Zep. If you did drugs they were a necessary component of a trip.

Laura, you are entirely correct. There can be no denying the truth of your post. Kashmir is just the best (although Dazed and Confused runs it close) W

All awesome anthems but there are so many more possible choices. Also, each decade of the rock era (and what we hear now is not rock) was so different. Perhaps you should pick a greatest anthem for the 50s, 60s, 70, 80s, etc. Don’t lump them all together.

I have so many favourites from the last 50 years it would be tough to spotlight just one anyway. I think the decades where I was out dancing, at concerts and listening to the chart hits on the radio were probably the 60s and 70s. xx

I’m going for Lynnard Skynard ‘Freebird’; incredibly sad lyrics which just build and build until we reach the most sublime guitar solo. Love this song but not a good one to listen to in the car as I find that, about midway through the solo, I am always, but always, breaking the speed limit ;O)

I have some car tracks that are like that.. nice choice.. thanks for the recommendation.
