Smorgasbord Blogger Daily – Meet the #Reviewers – October 22nd 2018 – D.G. Kaye with Robbie Cheadle, Teri Polen with Jacquie Biggar and Cindy Knoke

Thanks for joining me today. The Blogger Daily is an opportunity to share blog posts that you might have missed from around the community. I wish I could feature all the ones I have read.

The first is a review from Debby Gies… D.G. Kaye in her usual Sunday book feature and it is a review for While the Bombs Fell by Robbie Cheadle in collaboration with her mother Elsie Hancy Eaton, the inspiration for the book.

Welcome to my Sunday Book Review. Today I’m sharing my review of Robbie Cheadle’s latest release – While the Bombs Fell. While Robbie is better known for her children’s books she co-authors with her son, Michael Cheadle, Robbie has written this book in collaboration with her mother, Elsie Eaton, to share her accounting of her childhood during World War II in Suffolk, England.

What was it like for children growing up in rural Suffolk during World War 2?

Elsie and her family live in a small double-storey cottage in Bungay, Suffolk. Every night she lies awake listening anxiously for the sound of the German bomber planes. Often they come and the air raid siren sounds signalling that the family must leave their beds and venture out to the air raid shelter in the garden.

Despite the war raging across the English channel, daily life continues with its highlights, such as Christmas and the traditional Boxing Day fox hunt, and its wary moments when Elsie learns the stories of Jack Frost and the ghostly and terrifying Black Shuck that haunts the coastline and countryside of East Anglia.

Includes some authentic World War 2 recipes.

Please head over to Debby’s blog to read her review of the book:

Now time for an author interview.. Jacquie Biggar is the guest of Teri Polen as part of her Bad Moon Rising feature. Apart from putting Jacquie on the spot, you also get to enjoy and excerpt from The Beast Within.

About Teri Polen

If you’re not superstitious, this featured author may change your mind. She also confirms why basements in haunted houses aren’t a place you want to hang out. Welcome Jacquie Biggar!

You’re in a horror movie. Are you the final person, the first to die, the comic relief, the skeptic, the smart one, or the killer?

I would be the skeptic saying, “Yeah, sure that’s a real chainsaw with blood dripping all over my clean floor. When you’re done goofing off, I hope you plan on cleaning that mess up!”

Creepiest thing that’s ever happened while you were alone?

We lived in a haunted house when I was growing up. My bedroom was in the basement and normally the streetlight would shine through the three windows and provide plenty of light. But, once in a while I’d wake up and literally not be able to see my hand in front of my face. There’d also be a strong, malevolent presence (or maybe that was because I was scared witless!). I’d bang against walls and furniture to get upstairs, my heart drumming right out of my chest, and the light would be on outside. I could see it through the bay window and its glow lit up the kitchen.  Most scared I’ve ever been.

Head over and be prepared to be thrilled or scared…or both:

And last but by no means least… some amazing (as always) photographs from Cindy Knoke. Normally I reblog Cindy’s posts but I am only going to give you two of her images and ask you to go over to view and comment on the rest. The location is Oban, Scotland and the theme is very appropriate for Halloween – The Witches Woods…..
