Welcome to the Posts from Your Archives, where bloggers put their trust in me. In this series, I dive into a blogger’s archives and select four posts to share here to my audience.
If you would like to know how it works here is the original post: https://smorgasbordinvitation.wordpress.com/2019/04/28/smorgasbord-posts-from-your-archives-newseries-pot-luck-and-do-you-trust-me/
Delighted to welcome poet Dorinda Duclos to the series with the first of her archive posts. And I have selected a poem from 2014 that caught my attention.. and mirrors my sentiments exactly.
Camping by Dorinda Duclos
They pitch their tents
And gather sticks
They tell me I should try it
It’s fun they say
Come on and play
Sorry, I just don’t buy it
The forest folk hide nearby
They never make a sound
But I know they’re there
And try not to care
However, it’s much too quiet
A pat on the back
As they finish their tasks
The campsite looks quite inviting
But I’m still not staying
With bugs I’m not laying
Just drop me off at the Hyatt.

A selection of books by Dorinda Duclos
One of the recent reviews for Night Owl Poetry
Night Owl Poetry by Dorinda Duclos is an anthology of poems that begins with an intense symbol of Cocoon, which sheathes the internal beauty, yearning to break free. Slowly it wades into deeper waters of life, trying to figure out its real meaning and exhorting you to believe in yourself to understand the ‘jigsaw of life.’ The paradox of fleeting moments yet time standing still, past that lingers around us despite the beckoning light, A broken heart and yearning for brighter paths – all comes alive in these pages that glow with signature style of a brilliant poet.
Symbolism is the forte of Dorinda, as the night owl is an image for the poet who can’t sleep without completing her rendezvous with the wonderful words she pours into her musings. Whether she pays homage to soldiers or empathizes with ‘The Bag Lady,’ Duclos handles each theme perceptively. Once again love for nature shines through her poetry despite various issues that inspire her. This is a perfect book for poetry lovers.

Ha ha, I don’t do camping either! I’ve never been able to get to sleep in a tent.

Not many of us do Stevie.. and the bathroom facilities are usually abysmal or behind a bush….and the middle of the night is no time to be prancing around the field… xx

Lol! You are so right! Try sleeping in a tent in the middle of Download festival…

I’m the same Dorinda. Much more of a hotel with a spa kind of girl. 🙂

Lol, I’m with Dorinda. My one and only camping experience was enough. If it aint glamping, I’m not interested. 🙂 ❤

And to be honest a Yurt with an outside Yurt for the facilities is not really my scene either. I used to annoy my mother when ever there was a sheikh whisking a young blonde off to his tent in the desert for some passion and I would ask where the toilet was…completely shattering the mood. xxx♥

I like comfort and a proper bed, a shower and hopefully no creepy crawlies or other unwanted guests during the night. Mind you, when we went camping we were the only ‘real’ campers in the field (which was empty when we arrived). We woke up to posh tents, TV and Fridges and all mod cons. We rubbed two sticks together for ages before giving up and booking into the local hotel – later discovered our room was haunted! Oh, we have adventures.

Sounds great Jane.. and packed full of memories.. but don’t do insects and too close to the ground…xx

My thoughts too..lumps and bumps and weird noises in the night, snuffling and so on. Oh no! The haunted bedroom was fun – Charles 1st apparently. Our son ‘saw’ something and tursned the colour of his sheets! Next morning we found out Charles 1st had rested there on his way somewhere I forget. Hmm.

Surprised he was not scarred for life.. I do prefer more modern surroundings for that reason. The hair on the back of my neck responds very quickly to funny additional fixtures and fittings… xxx

Oh so does mine. But I have ‘seen’ some weird things in my time as well. Our son was a bit freaked and then thought it was hilarious and wanted to stay longer. He is still a dare-devil, never challenge him to do anything…

Lovely, Dorinda. I’ve always enjoyed camping as we camped a lot when I was a child. My husband, however, prefers your style of camping – at a Marriott.
Thanks for sharing, Sally. Dorinda’s poem gave me the chuckles. 💕🤗💕
