Now that the festivities and Christmas music is over for the year…. time to get back into the songs from the movies every two weeks, and if you have a favourite track from a film that you would like me to share, drop me a line at sally.cronin@moyhill.com…
Mrs Robinson – The Graduate – Simon & Garfunkel
I saw the film The Graduate when it was released in the UK which would have been slightly later than in the US in 1969. I loved it and have watched several times since. Brilliant acting and ‘Mrs Robinson’ is a song that I still listen today on my movie soundtrack playlist.
Written by Simon & Garfunkel it was released on their fourth studio album ‘Bookends’ in 1968 having been included in the soundtrack for The Graduate the year before. The track hit #1 on the Billboard 100 as well appearing in the top ten in Europe. It was also the first rock song to win a Grammy for record of the year.
Here is the song from the film uploaded courtesy of Mr E.
You can buy ‘Bookends’ in various formats: Amazon US – and: Amazon UK

Simon and Garfunkle have always been among my favorite singer/songwriters. I have had the pleasure of recording Mrs. Robinson which I think is one of the all time greats and what a joy it is to perform it. Just saw the movie again, recently, and it still rings well in spite of the changing times. Thanks for sharing this with us, Sally. Hugs

Simon and Garfunkle have been a favorite of mine over time. I do love Mrs. Robinson, but I think Sounds of Silence is my top pick.

I was never that much of a Simon and Garfunkel fan, but I liked this one. I was watching part of The Graduate the other day, and my first thought was, “I can’t ever remember Dustin Hoffman looking this young.” Of course, I say the same thing about myself when I look back at old photos.😎

This is true… and it must be tougher for actors to see constant reminders of what they looked like at 25.. no wonder so many of them opt for botox!..x

Oh, yes! “It’s all happening at the zoo” is my favorite. Simon and Garfunkel songs were much better on an album, as the Beatles songs were.
