 The Paintbox

I opened the curtains and saw
Heaven spilling out colours,
the whole paintbox seemed to flow
Painting the sky

with abundance and delight.

Have I got enough colours in my box,
Could I also have a go?
I feel intimidated by the artwork above
Still, what fun to try.

Let the brain take a backseat, be like a child
Let heart and fun flow through the hand.
Fail, no I can’t;
Colour will be there
and who is to judge.

A flock of swifts fly bypass and say,
No failures if you follow your heart,
Follow your instinct and dreams.
Banish false pride.

About Miriam Ivarson

It is a long way from a little island in North Sea to the British shores but I did it albeit in a circuitous route.

Much will be revealed as I go along.

I tried my hand at many things but the Arts have always been my love. From tender years books were never far from my side.

Even my den among the rocks had a bookshelf fashioned by my friend and me.

Welcome to my eclectic blog, I hope to see you around.

  1. Sally, a heartfelt thank you for featuring some of my poems. I was excited when I got back home and saw my name on you Smörgåsbord. Your generosity has benefitted so many bloggers and I feel gratitude to be one of them.

As you know I am Swedish by birth so know the words Smörgåsbord well. Delighted to be one
of the many dishes on this table ( board).

  2. Sally, I’ve been following Miriam’s blog for many years and am enthralled by her poetry and the magic she weaves with words! The one you share here is a particular favourite and I can’t forget the idea of ‘painting the sky’. It is just so on certain days … and I love how she brings the analogy to everything we do in life, imploring us to :
“Let the brain take a backseat, be like a child
Let heart and fun flow through the hand.”

Always a joy to revisit posts from other bloggers on your archive series, Sally and to see many for the first time! xx
