Smorgasbord Poetry -Colleen Chesebro’s #Tanka Tuesday #Poetry Challenge – Double #Etheree – Sunflower Seeds

This week for  Colleen Chesebro Tanka Tuesday Poetry No 173 – Synonyms Only we are offered the prompt words ‘Idea and Fancy‘ and I have chosen the synonyms ‘Notion and Fondness’ for my double Etheree…

Double Etheree – Sunflower Seeds

The
raven
on the fence
remained quite still
back lit by the moon
as it slid from the sky.
Briefly before the sun rose
his dark feathers would offer him
the gift of invisibility,
and chance to enact his clever notion.
This black bird had developed a fondness
for delectable sunflower seeds.
The source was very close at hand
newly scattered on the ground,
thrown by the evil witch
for favoured sparrows,
but not for him
who she chased
with her
broom.

    • He was there this morning Colleen.. a few weeks ago I put some large paint containers on the side of the seeder and he took to playing them like a drum with his beak and feet..at 6.00am as the sun came up..really got a beat going.. they got put back in the shed pretty quickly. He is a character.. always alone and up to mischief..xx♥

  2. Lol very delightful Sally, I thought the story and form of the poem were both perfect and couldn’t help but chuckle all the way through at the interpretation of the sparrow and how he perceives you chasing him with a broom. Very inspired 🙂
