This week for Colleen Chesebro Tanka Tuesday Poetry No 175 – Theme Prompt Elizabeth from Tea and Paper has provided the prompt ‘The Day After’.
This week marks the end of the war in Europe 75 years ago with VE Day on Friday May 8th. After six years finally the guns fell silent and hundreds of thousands of troops could return home to their families. For many however, including my father, the war would not end until 1946 in the Far East when he finally came home.
I have chosen a Butterfly Cinquain using the prompt from Elizabeth.
The Day After
Quiet
the day after
guns have fallen silent
is broken by the sound of doves
cooing
heralding the celebration
that humans have made peace
and called a halt
to war.

Brilliant poetry, Sally. I think we are fighting a different kind of war now. The guns will remain silent, but people will continue to die. Let’s all pray for peace. ❤
