This week on Colleen Chesebro’s Weekly Tanka Challenge 188 themeprompt author Sue Vincent has provide a wonderful quotation to respond to.
“Trees are sanctuaries. Whoever knows how to speak to them, whoever knows how to listen to them, can learn the truth.” Herman Hesse
Double Etheree – The Wisdom of Trees
Trees
ancient
observers
of history
have stories to tell
of man’s time on this earth.
Stored within each leaf and seed
the cellular memories wait
to be discovered by those that ask
for the gift of their infinite wisdom.
From green saplings to the giant redwoods
messages are carried on the winds.
Listen for the rustle of leaves
and the music that they make.
For as long as they sing
the world will be safe
but woe betide
should we cut
them all
down.

Just brilliant poetry, Sally. Think about the loss of trees in the rain forest… that has contributed to the changes in our world weather. We need our mighty friends, the trees. ❤

This poem really resonates with me. So many trees are being cut down where I live to put in more storage units, strip malls, and housing developments. It pains me every time I see it.
