Smorgasbord Cafe and Bookstore – New Book on the Shelves – #Fantasy – The Ferryman and the Sea Witch by D.Wallace Peach

Delighted to share the news of the latest release by D.Wallace Peach..a stand alone fantasy The Ferryman and the Sea Witch

About the book

The merrow rule the sea. Slender creatures, fair of face, with silver scales and the graceful tails of angelfish. Caught in a Brid Clarion net, the daughter of the sea witch perishes in the sunlit air. Her fingers dangle above the swells.

The queen of the sea bares her sharp teeth and, in a fury of wind and waves, cleanses the brine of ships and men. But she spares a boy for his single act of kindness. Callum becomes the Ferryman, and until Brid Clarion pays its debt with royal blood, only his sails may cross the Deep.

Two warring nations, separated by the merrow’s trench, trade infant hostages in a commitment to peace. Now, the time has come for the heirs to return home. The Ferryman alone can undertake the exchange.

Yet, animosities are far from assuaged. While Brid Clarion’s islands bask in prosperity, Haf Killick, a floating city of derelict ships, rots and rusts and sinks into the reefs. Its ruler has other designs.

And the sea witch crafts dark bargains with all sides.

Callum is caught in the breach, with a long-held bargain of his own which, once discovered, will shatter this life.

One of the recent reviews for the series Unraveling the Veil books 1 – 3

Apr 07, 2021 Geoff Le rated it Five Stars

What a series – Ok so I don’t do fantasy, only now I do. I ‘met’ the author through blogging and tried book one of this series to see if it mirrored her short form talents.

Book one, with its odd and apparently overlapping names teased me with enough encouragement to continue. The issue was I wasn’t sure about the story and the landscape within which it was set. But the main characters grew on me, esp Alue a troublesome irritant of dubious judgement. But you had to like her. Her males companions, the almost fey and corruptible Talin and the grim chippy Naj weren’t so warming. And yet… and yet…

I entered book two and they seemed to grow. Talin esp, a shifter and con artist, an old fashioned rogue who finds a moral compass.. now there were two to root for. But what of plodding lumpen Naj. Oh Naj, bring me my Naj! Before I knew it I was in book three and as with all good books time did that funny slidey thing when there’s not enough of it. It’s that moment when you start reading like your on a scree slope. Your stride elongates as you hurtle towards to end, exhilarating while you try and hold back wanting the enjoyment to continue.

But it ends. Smiles and tears. Boof! Over. Read it, them. Make up your own mind. You really shouldn’t be disappointed. If you are, then try crochet cos reading a good story clearly isn’t your thing.

About D.Wallace Peach

Best-selling author D. Wallace Peach started writing later in life after the kids were grown and a move left her with hours to fill. Years of working in business surrendered to a full-time indulgence in the imaginative world of books, and when she started writing, she was instantly hooked. Diana lives in a log cabin amongst the tall evergreens and emerald moss of Oregon’s rainforest with her husband, two dogs, two owls, a horde of bats, and the occasional family of coyotes.

  1. Sally, a lovely share of Diana’s latest book! I’ve just started and thoroughly hooked! As well as magical writing her books are instantly immersive and mesmerising! Oh, I adore Geoff’s review of a series I’ve also read! It’s the most original and down-to-earth review I’ve ever read – just wonderful. Luckily my crocheting is horrendous – for me it’s always books! 😀

  3. Diana has turned me into a fantasy lover, something I didn’t think could ever happen! Her plots, characters, and settings are so wonderfully written she’s become an auto-buy author for me. Just finished The Ferryman and hope she writes another in the merrow world!
