This week Gwen Plano has selected the the words ‘Dawn and Twilight’ for Tanka Tuesday Weekly #Poetry Challenge No. 229, #SynonymsOnly – and I have selected ‘Cockcrow and Dusk’
Night Creatures
At
cockcrow
the night beasts
slink through the woods
carrying their swag
gleaned from the hen houses
and poorly concealed burrows
of those who cower underground
few hunters will have empty bellies
thwarted in their efforts by vigilance.
As the sun rises the countryside wakes
all creatures glory in the brightness
and in the safety that it brings
life’s precious needs must be met
within this brief daylight
for all of them know
they need to be
away home
before
dusk.

I hope you will enjoy the evening, Sally! Thank you, here all over the day we had 26 degrees. Not looking out of the windows, and with earphones (not to hear anly syllable of the village dialect), i felt like in Italy. Lol xx

What a lovely double Etheree, Sally. I enjoyed your synonyms and how they led you to the theme of your poem. That’s fabulous. ❤

Wonderful word choices, Sally, and a truthful but slightly sinister poem. Nature is sometimes dark.

I really love this poem, Sally, but I can’t help being cheeky and saying I hope Boggis, Bunce and Bean don’t get them.
