A reminder of the talented children’s authors in the Reading Room and their amazing books.
Meet Darlene Foster
Growing up on a ranch near Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada, Darlene Foster dreamt of writing, travelling the world, and meeting interesting people. She also believed in making her dreams come true. It’s no surprise she’s now the award-winning author of Amanda Travels, a children’s adventure series featuring a spunky twelve-year-old who loves to travel to unique places. Readers of all ages enjoy following Amanda as she unravels one mystery after another. When not travelling herself, Darlene divides her time between the west coast of Canada and the Costa Blanca, Spain with her husband and entertaining dogs.

A recent review for Amanda in Malta
While I am not a 7-12 year old who would be the target audience for this enchanting story I loved learning about Malta through Amanda’s eyes. Author Darlene Foster has such a great way to tell a story and impart information about a location at the same time that I found myself thinking “Hey- I want to go to Malta!”. I think that is the sign of a great writer when the reader wants to visit the place that is written about in the book.
The Amanda series is such a wonderful series and with each adventure young readers are able to learn a little bit more about the country that Amanda is visiting. This time she is drawn to Malta by her BFF who alludes to being in some sort of trouble and in true Amanda style she is able to come to the rescue.
From jellyfish stings, to sightseeing, to eating lots of native food and even visiting a Cat Cafe (my favorite) Amanda manages to take in a lot of what Malta has to offer.
If you have a young reader in your life this is definitely a series for them. Thanks to author Darlene Foster, her publisher and NetGalley for an advance copy for my honest review. Definitely one for your child’s bookshelf.
Meet Patricia Furstenberg
Patricia Furstenberg is a skilled author, poetess and mother. With a medical degree behind her, Patricia is passionate about mind, brain and education and the psychology behind it.
Her latest book, “Silent Heroes: When Love and Values Are Worth Fighting for”, is a highly emotional read, action-packed, a vivid story of enormous sacrifice and bravery. “Silent Heroes” is a narrative about the value of life. Whose are the spoils-of-war? A new look at the War in Afghanistan, at the MWD, Military Working Dogs and the brave Marines fighting it, but also at the Afghans caught in it.
Her book “Joyful Trouble” is an Amazon Bestseller. Her book of poems “As Good As Gold” became a #1 New Release the day it was published.
When she’s not writing Patricia enjoys reading, researching for forthcoming books and traveling with her family. She never counts how many cups of coffee she enjoys in a day.
Patricia lives happily with her husband, children and dogs in sunny South Africa.

One of the reviews for Just Nuisance – The Sea Dog
Just Nuisance, the Sea Dog by Patricia Furstenberg is a fun children’s tale about a Great Dane that loves to travel. Whether by ship, train, or plane, Just Nuisance finds a way to follow the humans he loves.
This children’s book is a great lead-in to the more in-depth book Joyful Trouble. It’s also the 6th book in Ms. Furstenberg’s series about animals.
Some of the great takeaways for this book are about perseverance and finding a solution when all seems hopeless. The book can simply entertain or open discussions between parents and children.
I recommend this tale to all lovers of dogs, parents, families, and more. I will be adding it to my library of great kids lit.
Thank you for dropping in today and I hope you will be leaving with some books.. thanks Sally.
