This week for Colleen Chesebro’s Tuesday Poetry Challenge Poet’s Choice I have created another Tanka Prose to get a bit of practice in… a tribute to my time in Wales living and working in the Snowdonia National park.
Snowdonia –
Tanka Prose – Above the World
Rare gift of late summer sunshine. Younger legs than today, eager to take even the steepest paths. Breathlessly grateful for viewpoints on the climb. Ultimate prize, tomato and mayonnaise sandwiches high above the world. Late summer grass offers resting place before the reluctant descent before dark.
Memories of youth
when mind and body aligned
eager for the climb
to reach the top of the world
above life’s imperfections.

Lovely to see you Sally. We seem to have lost our way a bity I’m sure the book would be enjoyed by many but I enjoy more traditional poem a la Wordsworth,
that rhyme.

Congratulations on the review, Sally, and thanks for the poem as well. It does bring to mind memories of lovely walks as well, although I haven’t given up completely on them (but yes, you have aches and pains to think about as well) 🙂

So true Yvette, I am afraid it would be the rack and pinion train for me these days.. still the tomato sandwiches and the view would be the same..xxx

Super review, Sally. Your poem reminded me of climbing hills as a kid. Always wanted to see what things looked like from the top.

It was always worth the climb John.. even if there was cloud you could often pop out at the top and be faced with a blanket of white..hugsx

Thanks Colleen.. I found the image on Pixabay and it is a photograph that I recognised from our hikes up there when we were first married.. Snowdon is 3,500 metres and this was a fair way to the top.. ♥♥
