Sarah Taylor has her books on the main Cafe and Bookstore and today I am adding her book for children to the Reading Room. Old Dog Tray.
About the book
American songwriter of such iconic songs as “Oh! Susanna” and “Camptown Races” Stephen Foster wrote “Old Dog Tray” for his friend Matthew Stewart’s dog while at his house but, even before writing the song, Stephen had a dog growing up who liked to chase cows. His daughter, Marion, also had dogs, the messy dog Rat-trap and the Scottie dog Blackie, whom Stephen and Marion liked to walk to the park. Perfect for fans of music and animals.
“I loved that the book wasn’t too factual and crowded with facts and names. Simple, heart-warming incidents are described over the course of a few pages.
And what shall I say about the illustrations! They are mind-blowing. Every page is professionally designed with a profound artistic touch.” -Book And Brook

Hmm. Why can’t I place Old Dog Tray? I remember Camptown Races and Oh! Susanna. The backstory of some of these tales is quite interesting.

They are Pete and even in the UK they were songs we knew when we were growing up.. xx

Thank you, Pete! “Old Dog Tray” was one of Stephen Foster’s top-selling songs in his day, though it’s less well-known now. If you’re interested, you could check out my fictional biography Beautiful Dreamer (https://books2read.com/u/bWGBAM). Smorgasbord featured it recently.
