Smorgasbord Children’s Reading Room – Book Review – Drystan the Dragon and Friends Series, Book 6: Dragana Helps a Fairy by Janice Spina

I can remember as a child reading books in a series and always anticipating the next story with much excitement. There are one or two book series in the Children’s Reading Room and today I am going to showcase one that has now come to an end, which would make a wonderful gift for any child. Today I am reviewing Book 6 in the series

About the book

This is the final book in this magical, mystical series of dragons and their good deeds. In Book 6 a new dragon is introduced, Dragana. Each dragon is a different color and the dragons all have names that begin with the letter ‘D.’

Dragana is a dragon who likes to dream.
Nothing is impossible to her, so it seems.
Her scales are colored in burgundy and cream.
Fairies, goblins, and ghosts are her favorite theme.

Dragana discovers a fairy in need one day while flying around.
Will this fairy be afraid of a big dragon?
What will Dragana do to help the fairy?

My review for the book October 14th 2021

This book is a lovely example how giving those from a different background, even if they come with a fearsome reputation, a chance to become friends is a good thing. Dragons are not normally cast in such a friendly light, but these colourful creations by Janice Spina and her illustrator husband will delight small children with their vibrant colours and easy to read rhyming stories.

In this last book in the series Dragana in all her burgandy and cream glory, comes to the aid of a fairy queen in trouble who has dared to enter the realm of the dragons in desperate need of help. Despite her misgivings she puts her trust in Dragana and together they find a solution.

As this is the last book in the series, the author brings all the other dragons together at the end of the story with a recap of their own adventures which is a lovely link to the other books in the series.

I can recommend these stories for young children to ignite their imaginations and show them how kindness to others is so important.
