Smorgasbord Book Reviews – Rewind 2017 – #Thriller – His Revenge (John Cannon Book 2) – John W. Howell

I didn’t always do an individual blog post for book reviews and would include in Cafe Updates.. So I have gone into Goodreads and will share reviews I posted there during 2017. Time to give these great books a boost.

Here is my review for His Revenge by John W. Howell.. Book two of the John Cannon trilogy which I thoroughly enjoyed.

About the book

America loves John Cannon, its newest hero, and the President wants to present him with the highest civilian medal for bravery for saving the Annapolis midshipman from a terrorist plot to destroy them. While in Washington for the award ceremony, John unwillingly becomes an accomplice in another plan by the same group to attack the credibility of the US President and the stability of the worldwide oil market. There is no way out as John either becomes a traitor to America or causes thousands of innocent people to die if he refuses.

The second John J Cannon Thriller moves from a barrier Island off the coast of Texas to Washington DC, then to Northern California, and finally to Ecuador. John is on the receiving end of an offer he cannot refuse. His avowed enemy Matt Jacobs now wants John to help him shake the reputation of the US in the world political arena. If John refuses, Matt plans to murder innocent Americans including John’s latest relationship. John’s only way out is to pretend to go along with the plan and hope for a miracle. An excellent holiday read.

My review for the book March 2017

I received all three of John W. Howell’s books featuring John Cannon as a gift at Christmas and so was able to follow up on the first book My GRL quite quickly. I think that was a benefit as some of the characters that follow John Cannon into the second book were familiar. There was some recap in the first couple of chapters and that helped get the action packed book off to a good start.

John Cannon is not your typical hero, and for those used to the Steven Segal or Arnold Schwarzenegger approach to villains, it may make you wonder how he is going to survive. He does so by using brain power rather than brawn and manages to manipulate himself in and out of situations cleverly. With a the stability of the US at stake and the lives of thousands, including someone he loves, John Cannon is faced with a seemingly impossible choice.

The action is non-stop and the pace is maintained throughout the story. I am looking forward to the third book Our Justice and to share John Cannon’s next adventure. Overall I would recommend His Justice to those who enjoy a good thriller.

Sally Cronin does more to help indie authors. As an example, today, she has featured one of her past reviews for His Revenge, the second John Cannon book. A visit to Sally’s place will give you an idea of the number of ways she can help an indie author. Thank you, Sally, for the review and the feature,
