This week Colleen Chesebro challenges us to create our own syllabic poetry .
I was born on Friday 13th and to be honest that has always been a lucky day for me, although perhaps not always for those around me lol… to that end I have created a Rokuhana... comprising three pairs of six and seven syllables (Roku and Hana) in two stanzas on the subject.

Rokuhana – Superstitions
There are thirteen letters
in the word superstitions
with trouble that doubles
when combined with a Friday
or a Tuesday in Spain
a time to be wary
A sure way to change luck
when at sixes and sevens
with all things around you
disregard the first number
engage with the second
trust its mythical power

My most recent book is a collection of poetry and was published in July 2021

One of the reviews for the collection
I am somewhat blown away by this book – it’s a work of art.
The first part is a series of pictures – art, landscape, animals, birds, the fantastical, abstract, flowers, random objects, all sorts – each coupled with a short piece of free verse. The poems are so clever, often just a few lines that encapsulate an idea, convey a piece of ponder-worthy wisdom or paint a story in a flash-fiction fashion. It’s a delight from start to finish. I believe Sally Cronin is producing hardbacks in the not too distant future; I will be purchasing several for presents. And one for myself 🙂
Some of my favourites are astute comments on the darker side of the life we live now – notable are Scepticism, Westward-Two and The Future?. Another repeated theme is that of ageing – I love Ageism and the last verse of Birthdays, in particular. I name Ageism and Scepticism as joint winners!
The lovely Spices takes us into the second part, which consists of longer poems about Sally’s life. My favourite of these is The Lure of the Waltzer, which made me think of my early teenage years. The book is so perfectly presented; in an ideal world, the hardback ought to be on display in high street shops at Christmas with all those ‘little books of wisdom’ type publications; it’s better than most I’ve seen!

Thanks for dropping by and I hope you have enjoyed the poem.. thanks Sally.

I was born on the 13th of the month – not a Friday, but Friday 13ths have always been lucky for me, too. (Looking round for some wood to touch…) I wasn’t aware of this poetry form but I am aware of how clever the composition is of this one. Superb! I also love, and second, that brilliant review from Terry. xx

Love this, Sally! I’ve always seen thirteen as lucky because it’s a prime number. My favorite number is 19, also a prime. Great format and poem. 🙂

A fun poem, Sally. I never gave thirteen much thought. But, of course, I’m pretty low on the superstition scale.

Brilliant, Sally. I love it. As for 13, I don’t think much about it. I’m happy it’s lucky for you, though. 😊..

I loved you poem Sal, And yes, you are lucky 13 girl. I believe I’ve read that Italian people also think 13 lucky. ❤ Sorry I can't share on FAKEBOOK, but as you know, I'm once again in jail for stating opinion. No, I never learn because I'm an injustice fighter and don't plan on changing anytime soon. ❤ xx

I’m a three and thirteen person myself, Sally. Anything with the number three has always been lucky for me. This is why your new form will be lucky for all of us. I love it. Wasn’t this a fun exercise in writing syllabic poetry? ❤

Wait… Sally, does the poem have to be about ’13’? That wasn’t clear to me.

Hi Ben.. the challenge was to create a new form of syllabic poetry which I did with the 6 and 7 syllable pairings… I added to that by creating the poem about 13 which is my lucky number… hope that clarifies things x
