This week It is a theme prompt by Donna Matthews in Colleen’s Weekly Poetry Challenge Fire and Water…. I have created a mirror cinquain

Mirror Cinquain – Fire and Water
Fire
in our bellies
desire to blaze a trail
power to set the world alight
or burn
water
vital to sustain life on earth
when poured cold upon us
can extinguish
our dreams

My most recent book is a collection of poetry and was published in July 2021

One of the reviews for the collection
I am somewhat blown away by this book – it’s a work of art.
The first part is a series of pictures – art, landscape, animals, birds, the fantastical, abstract, flowers, random objects, all sorts – each coupled with a short piece of free verse. The poems are so clever, often just a few lines that encapsulate an idea, convey a piece of ponder-worthy wisdom or paint a story in a flash-fiction fashion. It’s a delight from start to finish. I believe Sally Cronin is producing hardbacks in the not too distant future; I will be purchasing several for presents. And one for myself 🙂
Some of my favourites are astute comments on the darker side of the life we live now – notable are Scepticism, Westward-Two and The Future?. Another repeated theme is that of ageing – I love Ageism and the last verse of Birthdays, in particular. I name Ageism and Scepticism as joint winners!
The lovely Spices takes us into the second part, which consists of longer poems about Sally’s life. My favourite of these is The Lure of the Waltzer, which made me think of my early teenage years. The book is so perfectly presented; in an ideal world, the hardback ought to be on display in high street shops at Christmas with all those ‘little books of wisdom’ type publications; it’s better than most I’ve seen!

What an excellent mirror cinquain, Sally. I think you shared some poetic wisdom, too. I love how the two cinquains reflect on the other, just like the fire and water in the image. ❤

Wow, Sally! What a great poem. It reminded me of my first husband. He was a water sign, me fire. He was always putting out my fire. That’s why he became an ex. 🙂

Great take on the prompt, Sally. Fire and water can be both life affirming as well as destructive. I love where you went with this. ❤ Hugs.

I loved the reflected qualities in this, Sally. My initial reaction was to the words and the powerful images and meanings they created, then I appreciated the constraints of the mirror cinquain. Perfect! And Terry’s reviews are always ones you can trust and this one is wonderful! xx
