Smorgasbord Poetry – Colleen Chesebro’s Tuesday Weekly Challenge -#DoubleEtheree – Dolphins by Sally Cronin

This week for Colleen Chesebro’s Tanka Tuesday Challenge we have a photoprompt An amazing image of dolphins provided by Denise Finn..

Here is my double etheree...

Dolphins

a
silver
formation
of sea dwellers
undulate with grace
synchronized skill to hunt
to herd their prey into shoals
with deadly force clicks and whistles
well practiced over millions of years
hunger needs sacrifice to be sated
with full bellies it is now time to play
oceanic clowns on hunt for fun
to frolic and gambol in waves
crests to surf and depths to dive
somersaults in the sun
a school of dolphins
classmates and kin
bound for life
in their
pod

  1. Beautiful poem, Sally, and a wonderful response to Denise’s image. What joyful creatures! The shape you chose was wonderful – too bad you couldn’t modify the form a bit to add tail fins on the end. 😀

  2. I love how you showed both sides of the pod, Sally, their hunting and play. Beautiful capture of their spirit 🙂 xo

  3. Magnificent! I think everything I know and love about dolphins is there in those few words. I see what Diana means about the shape -if you cheated and missed out the space before your name you’d have almost have a tail fin! Lovely review, too. xx
