Welcome to our show and we are excited to share decades of music with you in 2022.

Here is my first selection of top 2000 hits which I hope you will enjoy.

Destiny’s Child – Say my name

“Say my name,” from the album “The writing’s on the wall,” composed by Beyoncé Knowles, LeToya Luckett, LaTavia Robertson, and Kelly Rowland was a huge success worldwide. It garnered two Grammy Awards, for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals and Best R&B Song, and was nominated for Record of the Year and Song of the Year. The video won the MTV Music Video Award for Best R&B Video. It also won a Soul Train Lady of Soul Award for Best R&B/Soul Single, Group, Band or Duo along with a BMI Pop Award for Most Played Song. Billboard placed the song #7 on their list of 100 Greatest Girl Group Songs of All Time and the best song of 2000. In 2021, Rolling Stone Stone placed the song at #285 on its list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

February 8th Reprise Records releases “Both Sides Now”, Canadian singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell’s 17th studio album, a collection of torch songs, including re-worked versions of two of her own, backed by an orchestra 

Santana – Smooth

“Smooth,” penned by Itaal Shur and Thomas from Matchbox Twenty, was produced by Matt Serletic. It topped the Billboard Hot 100 for 12 weeks and was the final #1 hit of the 1990s and the first #1 hit of the 2000s. It is the only song to appear on two decade-end Billboard charts. It was ranked the second most successful song ever in Billboard’s 60th anniversary all-time top 100 songs. It won three Grammy Awards: Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals. It hit #1 in Canada and the top 10 in Australia, Austria, Ireland and the UK.

U2 – Beautiful Day

“Beautiful Day” is a song by Irish rock band U2. It is the first track on their tenth studio album, All That You Can’t Leave Behind (2000), and was released as the album’s lead single on 9 October 2000. The song was a commercial success, helping launch the album to multi-platinum status, and is one of U2’s biggest hits to date.

The song received positive reviews, and it became the band’s 14th number-one single in their native Ireland, fourth number-one in the United Kingdom, and their first number-one in the Netherlands. It also topped the charts in Australia, Canada, Finland, Italy, Norway, Portugal, Scotland and Spain and reached the top 10 in Austria, Belgium, Germany, New Zealand, Sweden and Switzerland. The song peaked at number 21 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States U2 

May 23rd Eminem releases 3rd studio album “The Marshall Mathers LP”, is fastest ever selling studio album (Grammy – Best Rap Album, 2001)

Baha Men – Who Let The Dogs Out

“Who Let the Dogs Out” is a song performed by the Bahamian group Baha Men. Originally released by Anslem Douglas (titled “Doggie”), The cover by the Baha Men was released on 26 July 2000, became the band’s first and only hit in the United Kingdom and the United States, and it gained popularity after appearing in Rugrats in Paris: The Movie and its soundtrack album. The song peaked at No. 2 on the UK Singles Chart, as well as topping the charts in Australia and New Zealand, and reached the Top 40 in the United States. In Britain, it was championed by DJ John Peel and went on to be the fourth biggest-selling single of 2000, and one of the highest-selling singles of the decade not to reach No. 1. The track went on to win the Grammy for Best Dance Recording on the 2001 Grammy Awards Baha Men

June 23rd Glastonbury Festival in Pilton, England opens: The Chemical Brothers, Travis, and David Bowie headline; other performers include G. Love & Special Sauce, David Gray, Willie Nelson, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, and Macy Gray

Your Hosts for The Breakfast Show

William Price King is an American jazz singer, crooner, and composer.

His interest in music began at an early age when he studied piano and clarinet in high school. At Morehouse College in Atlanta where he grew up, he sang in the Glee Club and studied classical music. After graduation he went off to the Yale School of Music where he earned a Masters degree. From there he journeyed to New York where he created a jazz trio ‘Au Naturel’ which performed in some of the hottest venues in Manhattan including gigs on Broadway and the famous ‘Rainbow Room.’ These gigs opened doors for performances in Montreal and a European tour.

While touring Europe he met a lovely French lady, Jeanne Maïstre, who, a year later became his wife. King left the group ‘Au Naturel’ and settled in the south of France where he started a new life on the French Riviera, opening his own music school – the “Price King Ecole Internationale de Chant.” He has had the pleasure over the years of seeing many of his students excel as singers on a professional level, and some going on to become national celebrities. He continues to coach young singers today, in his spare time.

Sally Cronin is an author, blogger and broadcaster who enjoyed four years as part of the team on Onda Cero International’s English speaking morning show in Marbella and then for two years as a presenter on Expressfm the local radio station in Portsmouth. She co-presented two ‘Drive Time’ shows a week with Adrian Knight, hosted the live Thursday Afternoon Show and The Sunday Morning Show guests including musicians and authors. Following this she became Station Director for a local internet television station for two years, producing and presenting the daily news segment, outside broadcasts and co-presenting the Adrian and Sally chat show live on Friday evenings.

She and her husband David have now returned to Ireland where they live on the Wexford Coast where she blogs and continues to write books.
