Smorgasbord Blog Magazine – Weekly Round Up – 5th – 11th September 2022 – Chart Hits 2003, #Irishlife 1930s, Podcast Reviews, Bloggers, Health and Humour

Welcome to the round up of posts you might have missed this week on Smorgasbord.

I hope that despite Mercury Retrograted (thanks Debby for the head’s up) you have had a good week.

Of course the news has been dominated by the sad death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth. It is incredible to see the outpouring of love and respect for this unwaveringly dedicated monarch around the world and there have been tears as both young and old feel the loss of her presence in our lives.

I was christened during Coronation week in June 1953 and she has been Queen my entire life. Being from a service family her portrait adorned every establishment and was celebrated at every occasion instilling a fascination and respect for the monarchy from a very early age. During her reign she united us during times of crisis and also during times of jubilation both at home and throughout the Commonwealth.

How wonderful that she was able to take part in the Jubilee this year and I know that her tea party with Paddington Bear will be remembered by millions for years to come.

There are some who wonder what the next few years will bring with King Charles III on the throne. My feeling is that he has had an amazing teacher and role model and also wishes to leave the monarchy as a strong institution for Prince William to take the reins eventually.

There are many wonderful videos on The Royal Family channel and here is are reminder of that tea party and an amazing sense of humour. The Royal Family RIP Your Majesty and thank you.

In the midst of the mourning for the Queen, it is also a day of remembrance for those who lost their lives on September 11th 2001. A day that rocked the world and left its scars on thousands who lost loved ones. Our thoughts are with them today.

  2. Thanks for the guidance through this week, Sally. Thanks also to all the contributors, and i am sure this week will become unforgettable, as HRH suddenly died. I remember an interview BBC has done with her around the crown. She saw it first time again after her past ceremony, and was surprised how heavy it is. She studied the crown so closely, as if checking that every jewel is still there and real. Lol May she rest in peace! xx Michael

  3. A wonderful and poignant tribute to the queen, Sally. I loved her Paddington Bear tea party as it shows how multi-faceted she was as a person. Strength, courage, and playfulness make a lovely combination. Thanks for the round-up of a busy week. I was delighted to be part of the fun. Hugs.

  4. Indeed I think I agree with Paddington Bear.
    “Thank you Ma’am, for everything.”
I hope she enjoys her marmalade sandwiches.
The Playbus project I was involved ina dn which led to my story writing was a Queen’s Silver Jubilee project.
I’m pleased, in my own small way, to be able to remember that.

Thank you for this weeks posts.
