Welcome to the Smorgasbord Christmas Book Fair with a selection of books from personally recommended authors on my bookshelf I believe will make wonderful gifts for friends, family and for you.
Today two books from authors who are offering them FREE for a limited period
The first book which is free to download is part of the very popular Hat Series that I have enjoyed very much by C.S. Boyack – Lunar Boogie (The Hat Book 4)
About the book
Lizzie and the hat are back in action, only this time they’re up against the most tragic monster of all, a werewolf.
This adventure is more like hunting an animal, and the werewolf is unlikely to come to any of their musical performances. This puts Lizzie out in the dark corners and wooded areas of the city. It may be more beneficial to get the monster to hunt Lizzie than to stalk him on his own turf. All she has to do is be quicker on the trigger than the wolf is on his feet.
At the same time, the police think they’re after a serial killer. Lizzie tries to keep them alive while also keeping them out of her way. As the body count rises, so do the pressures. It doesn’t help that people are blaming Lizzie and the hat for the killings. This involves an urban myth about them that the locals call Hellpox.
Pull on your boogie shoes and join the hunt. Designed as an afternoon read, this one is tons of supernatural fun.
One of the reviews for the book
I’ve been a fan of this paranormal series from the first book, so I was excited to spend some more time with Lizzie and my favorite hat.
The plot is centered around the Sausage Maker, who racks up a few bodies by the end of book. In addition to Lizzie and the hat’s search for the culprit, police lieutenant Joe Yoder is also in pursuit. My heart went out to Joe, who’s still grieving his wife’s death but continues to talk to her.
One of my favorite things about this series is the clever banter between Lizzie and the hat, and it’s always good for several laughs. Another moment that caused me to let out a very undignified snort was vampire Kevin and his sign regarding the Sausage Maker. Trust me – you’ll just have to read it. I was happy to see him make another appearance in this series and hope to see more of him in the future.
Many reviewers have mentioned this book ventures into a darker territory than the others, and that’s fine with me. I’m a fan of dark stories, and I’m anxious to see where the author takes us next. All of these quick reads can be read as standalones, but I’d recommend reading them in order. If you’re a fan of quirky paranormal stories with a dose of humor, you can’t go wrong with this series.

Here is a wonderful festive love story that I much enjoyed reading last year from USA Today Bestselling Author Jacquie Biggar… Love, Me
About the book
Will a Christmas wish bring two lonely hearts together and give a little girl the family she’s always wanted?
Single parent, Grace Donovan arrives in the small town of Emerson with the hope a trial program at the local cancer clinic will be the answer to prolonging her young daughter’s life. She doesn’t expect to fall for her handsome boss.
As principal of Emerson Elementary, Kyle Roberts is aware of the students’ medical issues and his heart goes out to little Cassie Donovan and her mother. When he learns Grace needs a job, he fabricates a childcare program, and is pleasantly surprised by its success. Now, if only he could help Cassie’s recovery and get Grace to give him a chance before she learns of his duplicity.
Cassie Donovan barely remembers the father who died when she was just a toddler, but she does know her mother is sad. Even though Cassie wants a puppy more than anything, she gives up her wish to ask for a daddy from Santa Claus, that way if she gets sick again, Mommy won’t be alone.
This Christmas, two families are brought together by a Christmas wish and a child’s need for a miracle.
A review for the book
Reading Jacquie Biggar’s tender creation entitled Love, Me: A Christmas Wish Novel gave me such a rush, I had withdrawal issues when the book was over. For sure this story was a treasure of a find.
The premise: A single, determined yet devoted mom (Grace Donovan) moves to Emerson, her heart and soul filled with the hope her prayers will be answered regarding her little girl’s struggles for restored good health.
When we first meet Cassie, Grace’s young daughter, she’s writing a letter to Santa Claus. Although she really wants a puppy, she’d rather have a happy mom, and her carefully worded wish-missive tugged at my heart. After all, anything having to do with widowhood does a number on me.
The planets align favorably, as they are inclined to do when people are deserving of such a boon, and enter the principal of Emerson Elementary Kyle Roberts, who is definitely due for a treat in the second chance romance department. He’s overseeing a Foster a Pet Program at his school when he meets Cassie and her mother Grace. Kyle has a daughter the same age as Cassie named Avery, and he’s about as single as they come, having been divorced for some time, yet intentionally unavailable.
I will leave his reasoning in the private zone for you to discover – later, when you read the story, as I don’t do spoilers – but let’s just say until he sets eyes on Grace Donovan, he’s just a sole female guy – his daughter Avery’s – but a generous one at that. Hold onto this thought…
Ms. Biggar’s artful composition between the characters requires expertise and I applauded how she presented Kyle’s feelings, as well as Grace’s – and let’s not forget about the children. Oh, did I mention Kyle has a twin brother with a son about the same age? Gosh, where’re my manners? I love the way this author can also get into the children’s minds and hearts, and share – an amazing talent indeed.
Love, Me is not only a feel-good story, but it also traces the hills and dales of life-threatening illness, as well as the intricacies of a budding romantic relationship, when there are major obstacles to conquer. Ms. Biggar leads the reader flawlessly through each event, be it a happy scene or otherwise, and I admired her aptitude as a talented storyteller who kept this reader engaged and glued to her Kindle.
Five golden stars are awarded for a marvelous Christmas tale that can be enjoyed any time of the year, and huge cheers for the author who shares her thoroughly enchanting prose to keep readers like me entertained. Bravo, Ms. Biggar.
PS: The story is based on the true event of a little girl’s challenging battle with cancer, and you can follow her on Instagram – further info is listed in this gem of a tale. New Year’s Blessings to all!
