Welcome to the Christmas Book Fair where I will be sharing books by my recommended authors that I believe would make great gifts. If you are gifting someone a Kindle this year it would be a great idea to stock it up with some great books to be enjoyed.
The first book today is one I have recently reviewed and can highly recommend…the latest release by Lisette Brodey – the suspense thriller Twice a Broken Breath.

About the book
She stole his world. He’s got twenty-four hours to get it back.
Although Liam Tallamore can’t remember the first fourteen years of his life, he’s built a happy home with his wife, Carly, and their two children in suburban New Jersey … until one Friday afternoon when everything changes.
While cashing his paycheck, he’s told his bank accounts have been emptied. Once at home, he learns Carly has left him for her first love—one he never knew existed. Most devastating of all, she’s taken their eight-year-old daughter, Rayelle, and is preparing to leave the country. As if things couldn’t get worse, he has no idea where their twenty-year-old son is or why he’s been unreachable for the past two months.
With total distrust in law enforcement and no clues to guide him, Liam hops on a train to New York City, Carly’s hometown. Through the next twenty-four hours, Liam goes on a wild, unforgiving, frantic search through rain-soaked Manhattan, experiencing the brightest and the darkest humanity has to offer. This is the story of a man who refuses to quit, determined to find “a needle in a haystack,” and who, in searching for the children he loves, doesn’t yet realize he’s searching for himself as well.
AUTHOR’S NOTE: I write characters as I hear them speak to me. This novel contains non-gratuitous expletives. If this is not to your liking, please don’t read this book. Thank you.
My review for the book November 9th 2023
This is an action packed thriller with complex characters who enter the story and insert themselves into the carefully crafted plot over a very short but intense 24 hours.
One can only imagine how traumatic it must be to find after many years, with two children and a stable home life, that you have been living a lie and all that you know has been whipped from under you. Particularly when according to your parents the first fourteen years of your life were wiped from your mind following an accident.
The author has a great sense of timing and makes sure that despite the plot being very fast paced with some fascinating twists and turns, the reader is not left behind and is given adequate hints and clues to keep turning the pages in search of answers. Just when you think you have figured it out… another element is introduced which sets you off on another path.
Most of the cast of this action packed story are flawed and have pasts they find difficult to put behind them. This results in unexpected kindness, support and a determination to help this troubled man on his mission to find his daughter through the rain soaked night streets of New York. With time against him Liam Tallamore is about to discover secrets and relationships beyond his wildest dreams.
A gritty thriller with great characters and I can highly recommend.

Another thriller that I can recommend is part of an excellent series by Dan Antion with The Evil You Choose: Dreamer’s Alliance – Book 2

About the book
Zach Amstead has kept his ability to participate in lucid dreams a secret for over fifty years However, in the high-tech world of the 21st century, he has been discovered by an FBI Special Agent who has a corrupt agenda and who is willing to employ illegal tactics while working toward his goal.
Thomas Slocum gives Zach a choice – cooperate in an illegal operation or be treated as a terrorist. Slocum’s plan puts Zach on a collision course with organized crime leaders, a corrupt politician and brings innocent people into dangerous situations. Worse, the FBI process which allowed Slocum to uncover Zach’s abilities threatens to expose the abilities of his best friend, Billy.
One of the reviews for the book
I was born and raised near Pittsburgh. Spent half of my life there before adulthood so rudely intervened. So when I see a book set even some of the time in Western Pennsylvania, I’m interested. For that reason, I read Knuckleheads when it came out. The location drew me to the work, but the writing and storytelling sold me on it. i couldn’t wait for the sequel. And I’m delighted to say it was every bit as good as the first.
Zach and Billy are back. Zach’s powers have been discovered by someone who wants to take advantage of them, and he finds himself having to make one difficult choice after another to protect himself and the people he loves. In a tale where some members of law enforcement are as corrupt as criminals (if not more so), choosing which is the least of all evils is difficult for our hero. Watching how he and his supporting cast manipulate the system and navigate the dangerous situations they find themselves in kept me flipping pages faster and faster to see how it all played out.
I really enjoyed Billy’s return. He’s such a fascinating character. The development of Zach’s daughter has me especially intrigued. And while I miss Zach’s dad (very much), I love that his brother Mike kind of fills that role in his absence. To avoid spoilers, I will simply say two secondary characters and two tertiary characters really grew on me by the end, and I hope to see them in the next installment, which I can’t wait for.
As an aside, if you’ll forgive this slight tangent, the food sounds amazing. I’d love the recipes for the pork chops, the pie, and the mushrooms.
You don’t have to read these stories in order, but you’ll probably get more out of the second if you do. There are callbacks and characters that enrich the series, making the reading experience more enjoyable if they’re read in order. But I promise, each book stands on its own. In any event, I highly recommend this book and series and can’t wait for the next one.

The final thriller today is from the recommended series by Sue Coletta– Merciless Mayhem (The Mayhem Series Book 8)
About the book
Shawnee and Mayhem continue to wreak havoc on the Killzme Corporation—the largest animal trafficking ring in the country—by killing one poacher at a time. The stakes grow increasingly higher when the nefarious group retaliates by putting a bounty on their heads.
Meanwhile, the traffickers set their sights on capturing Orca for profit and pleasure.
With a ticking clock and no place left to hide, Shawnee and Mayhem alternate between undercover surveillance and clandestine battles to save their loved ones and the Innocent Ones from Killzme’s evil plans. Skills are tested. Tenuous alliances are formed. Not everyone will make it out alive.
Set in a world of cultural wonder, environmental threats, and looming danger, this heart-stopping eco-thriller will have you glued to the page from the first sentence to the last.
One of the reviews for the book
Merciless Mayhem is the eighth book in the Mayhem Series. I have read the first and sixth books and could jump right into this story with no confusion or issues. There are enough references to understand what is going on. Shawnee and Mayhem are fighting a powerful company named Killzme, which is involved in illegal animal trafficking. This corporation has set its sights on capturing Shawnee, which leads to an explosive opening to the story. Not only are their lives at stake, but the animals captured are also at risk of survival.
What I love about these stories is that justice is fought for innocent ones or animals, along with Native American culture and relationships between the warriors and families. Shawnee’s dedication to learning and working with Mayhem to become a stronger warrior is fascinating. But it’s her love for her grandfather that really touches the heart. The ravens are a favorite character of mine, and the bad feelings between Shawnee and Poe add to the entertainment. Going undercover and Shawnee walking in heels was a lot of fun, but saving the orcas and dolphins tugged at my heart. There was an in-depth explanation of what capturing these intelligent creatures does to them.
There are some brutal and descriptive battles that aren’t for the faint of heart, but I couldn’t help rooting for the justice behind it. Another great addition to the Mayhem Series and I will continue reading them to catch up and look forward to more stories to come.

I’m especially happy to see your review of Dan’s book. Not only is it outstanding, it saved my husband who had lost his ability to read the printed page due to eye disease. Now, he is back to a happy reader, and has devoured all the books in this series.

I was so happy when you told me your husband was reading my books. I had thought about shrinking the font and reducing the white space between lines. I received several comments thanking me for both of those, so I kept the format the same. Also, it’s the way I like it.

Dan, you have no idea how much your books did for Steve. Thank you will never be enough. Keeping the font and white space the same is a good thing, and I’m glad you like it, too. BTW, I checked out five Clive Cussler books from the library to ‘tide him over’.
