Smorgasbord Bookshelf 2022- Share an Extract from your latest book #Romance – Love, Me – A Christmas Wish Novel by Jacquie Biggar

In this series you are invited to share an extract of 500 words from your most recent book published within the last 12 months. Details at the end of the post.

The aim of the series

  1. To showcase your latest book and sell some more copies.
  2. Gain more reviews for the book.
  3. Promote a selection of your other books that are available.

Today an extract from the romantic Christmas story Love, Me by Jacquie Biggar a book I enjoyed very much and reviewed in January

About the book

Will a Christmas wish bring two lonely hearts together and give a little girl the family she’s always wanted?

Single parent, Grace Donovan arrives in the small town of Emerson with the hope a trial program at the local cancer clinic will be the answer to prolonging her young daughter’s life. She doesn’t expect to fall for her handsome boss.

As principal of Emerson Elementary, Kyle Roberts is aware of the students’ medical issues and his heart goes out to little Cassie Donovan and her mother. When he learns Grace needs a job, he fabricates a childcare program, and is pleasantly surprised by its success. Now, if only he could help Cassie’s recovery and get Grace to give him a chance before she learns of his duplicity.

Cassie Donovan barely remembers the father who died when she was just a toddler, but she does know her mother is sad. Even though Cassie wants a puppy more than anything, she gives up her wish to ask for a daddy from Santa Claus, that way if she gets sick again, Mommy won’t be alone.

This Christmas, two families are brought together by a Christmas wish and a child’s need for a miracle.

Love, Me
A Christmas Wish Novel by Jacquie Biggar

Cassie Donovan leaned over the notepaper her mom had given her and concentrated on getting her Christmas wish to Santa Claus just right. Mom warned her to take her time, because once it was in the mail and on the way to the North Pole there was no changing it.

And Cassie wanted to be sure.

Trouble was there were two things she really wanted, but she could only choose one. Momma said it was selfish to ask Santa to make extra gifts for every kid, he was busy enough, so she was supposed to choose the one thing she wanted the most. More than anything, Cassie dreamed of having her very own puppy. She almost got one a couple of years ago for her birthday, but then Daddy got sick…

She glanced up at her mom, but she was busy making their dinner, so she went back to carefully printing out her letter.

Dear Santa,

Mommy wants me to choose a special present for Christmas—it was going to be a puppy—but I was wondering if I could trade it for a gift for my mom?

She’s been sad for a really long time, and I was hoping you could bring us a new Daddy so she’s not alone anymore?

I promise to be a really good girl for the whole year!

Thank you, Santa
Cassie

“Just about done, honey? Dinner is nearly ready. You need to wash your hands.” Mom carried a steaming casserole dish to the table. “Can I see what you’ve got so far?”

Panicking, Cassie hurried to fold the note and stuff it into an envelope with the Santa Claus, North Pole, H0H 0H0, address on the front. “It’s bad luck if anyone but Santa sees it,” she said, knowledgeably. “Mrs. Samson told us to keep it a secret.”

Mom slapped the potholders together and smiled. “She did, did she? Well, I hope you practiced your very neatest spelling, then. Santa needs to be able to read it.”

Cassie nodded. “I did, Mommy. Are you going to write one?”

Mom tapped Cassie’s nose. “I don’t need to; I have everything I want right here. Now hurry and wash your hands, I’m starving.”

Cassie set the letter aside and hopped down from her chair to scamper into the bathroom.

Maybe next year she could wish for a puppy.

* * *

Grace waited until her daughter closed the bathroom door to reach for the envelope she’d left behind. She felt a twinge of guilt for snooping, but Cassie had been remarkably quiet about what she wanted for Christmas this year. They’d been through a tough time, the two of them, and now that they’d made the move to a new home in a new town, she wanted to bring back some joy into the holidays.

Curious whether Cassie had asked for the latest doll or maybe one of those bake sets like she’d received as a child, Grace unfolded the note and started to read. Her eyes teared up.

David would be so proud of his girl.

She lifted her head and gazed at the ceiling, as though he could see her. “She’s just like you, you know. Always thinking of others instead of herself. Her teacher tells me Cassie is shy and withdrawn, but kind and courteous. She never used to be shy. Remember when she ran up to that stranger who dropped her scarf? I had a mild heart attack, and you laughed and said, ‘That’s my girl.’”

She blinked away the tears and carefully refolded the letter before replacing it in the envelope. Maybe some people thought her crazy for still talking to her husband, but she didn’t care. So far as she and Cassie were concerned, he was still with them, even if it was only in their hearts.

The moment Cassie left the washroom, her gaze searched the table until she spotted the letter and let out a gusty sigh. “Can we post this tomorrow, Mom? I don’t want to take any chances. Santa has to see my message.”

Great. How was she to explain without giving away the fact she’d snooped, that there were some wishes Santa Claus couldn’t fulfill?

Jo 5.0 out of 5 stars Heartwarming story Reviewed in the United States on February 15, 2022

I loved this beautiful story it was so very heartwarming. “Love Me” by Jacque Biggar is a wonderful holiday read about a mother (Grace) and her daughter (Cassie) who is fighting leukemia. Grace and Cassie (who lost husband/father about years ago) move to a new town to try an experimental treatment, and luckily an anonymous donor covers the expenses.

I enjoyed reading the story as it was told from both the mother and daughter’s point of view. The little girl struggling to appear normal to her classmates, not wanting them to know about her illness. The mother so independent not wanting charity, her strength and caring shine throughout the story as a powerful symbol of love.

The author’s writing so full of emotion, I could literally feel the emotion behind Grace’s struggles, also Cassie and her fear for her mom if she was not there. Wanting Santa to find a man for her mom. The story brought tears to my eyes many times as I was reading. I could not stop reading and wish it had not ended when it did. I highly recommend the book.

Smorgasbord Bookshelf 2022- Share an Extract from your latest book – #Western #Paranormal Mateo’s Blood Brother by Sandra Cox

Today an extract from the latest release by Sandra Cox.. the paranormal western Mateo’s Blood Brother a sequel to Mateo’s Law.

In addition Sandra has a giveaway, in the form of a lovely bracelet for book lovers… I will be pulling a name out of a hat from those that comment in the first week after posting.

About the book

They were friends, close as brothers. Then they weren’t.

Mateo and Jesse are cautiously working their way back to friendship when Jesse discovers the unthinkable. Delilah, the sultry shifter who’d had affairs with both men, is still alive. The tumble she took over a mountain ridge—a fall that nearly killed Mateo—should have finished her.

Now, there’s no choice but for the two men to work together to take down a she-devil straight from hell. As the stakes escalate and the hunt becomes more intense, another wolf appears on the scene. Always where Jesse’s at. Always when he’s in trouble. Jesse is divided between ending Delilah, a new love interest, discovering the identity of a certain brown wolf and staying alive.

An extract from Mateo’s Blood Brother

A shadow fell across the desk. Unexpected. Eerie in the predawn gloom.

Nerves thrumming, Sheriff Mateo Grey’s head shot up and he reached for his gun.
A lanky man in jeans and a tan uniform-shirt, with coal-black hair pulled back in a tail, leaned against the doorframe of Mateo’s office. A shield attached to his brown leather belt. The scent of fresh air and earthy musk followed him in. He moseyed over and dropped boneless into the hard, wooden chair, in front of the desk.

“What the hell, Jesse? You sneak around like a—”

“Indian?”

“Cat was what I was about to say. Don’t try to snag me with political incorrectness.” Mateo shook himself, leaned back in his worn office chair and drilled the Chief of Police of the Blackfeet Nation with a hard stare.

Jesse snorted and handed him a paper cup, with Belle’s Beans printed on the side, then took a sip of his own. Not a drop had spilled when he collapsed into the chair, reminding Mateo of the man’s innate feline grace.

“Thanks.” Fragrant steam rose from the opening, the cup warm against Mateo’s hand. His tight jaws relaxed. Belle served the best coffee in the county.

He took a long swallow. The caffeinated liquid rolled down his throat, hit his belly and kick-started him into hyperdrive.

“Okay, Jesse, hit me.”

Tight lips set in a lean face twitched. “I’ve been wanting to for months.”

“Years more like.” Mateo flashed a grin.

Growing up, the men had been close as brothers. Best friends. Blood brothers. Then they weren’t. His fault.

Cautious and slow, they were working their way back to friendship.

Jesse grinned back, nodding in acknowledgement.

“Surprised to see you here. What can I do for you?” He and Jesse had a contentious relationship and even though they were moiling their way toward a more even footing, they weren’t there yet.

“What makes you think I want anything?”

“You know the old saying, beware law enforcement officers bearing gifts.”

“At least I didn’t bring donuts.”

Mateo gave a crack of laughter and, just like that, the lingering tension of a moment before broke.

“Where is everyone?” Jesse peered through the open doorway, a long gash on the worn, stained frame, left by a previous, unhappy visitor.

“It’s not seven yet. Nobody here but me and the dispatcher. But they’ll be streaming in any minute.” He pointed at the large-faced, black-rimmed, round clock that adorned the plain white walls of his office.

“How’s Blair?”

The question sidetracked Mateo as no doubt it was meant to, as a vision of his fiancée with tousled hair and covers pulled up to her nose rose in his mind, along with another body part. Having his fiancée as his chief deputy was both a blessing and a curse. Stubborn as a mule, she didn’t take kindly to being told what to do. But offsetting that, his chief deputy—his woman—was brave, smart and able to handle herself. Not to mention sexy as hell.

He squirmed in his chair and got himself back on track.

“She’s fine. Now, what is it you’re not telling me? It’s not like you to beat around the bush.”

Silence built. Tension swelled.

Mateo thrummed his fingers on the desk, waiting. The drumming echoed in the quiet.
Jesse stared over Mateo’s left shoulder as if waiting for divine intervention. None was forthcoming. Finally, he straightened his shoulders and turned his gaze to Mateo.

“She’s alive.”

D. W. Peach 5.0 out of 5 stars Unique shapeshifters and great action  Reviewed in the United States on April 27, 2022

I thought the first book in this series was great and couldn’t wait to get my hands on the second. It didn’t disappoint. Mateo, the wolf-shifter sheriff of Grizzly is still a major part of the story but the focus is now on Jessie, his fully human blood brother. After a long period of estrangement, they’re working on their friendship, and they haven’t much choice about sticking together since the shifter-she-wolf they’d thought was dead is back for revenge. She’s targeting them and everyone they hold dear.

I enjoyed the characters the first time around and did so again. Jessie and Mateo share the story’s POV. They’re believable, emotionally authentic, and distinct. I can easily say the same about the secondary characters, even those with small parts. The shifters, including a new and mysterious brown wolf, are appealing with their deep connections to the natural world. I enjoyed experiencing the action through Mateo’s animal senses as well as his human ones and was especially intrigued by his father.

The author is well known for her western romances, but in this series, romance is secondary to the other elements of the plot. I’d characterize the book as contemporary western, paranormal fiction, and there’s plenty of action to keep the pace moving along. I read the book in two sittings while ignoring everything else I had to do. I hope the author will write more for this series. Highly recommended to readers who enjoy paranormal fiction with great characters, a touch of romance, and a quick pace.

Smorgasbord Blog Magazine Weekly Round Up – May 2nd – 8th 2022 – Voice of Indie, Hits 1994, Ella Fitzgerald, Guest Posts, Short Stories, Poetry, Health and Humour

Welcome to the round up of posts you might have missed this week on Smorgasbord.

A slightly different location for this week’s round up as I am set up in the kitchen whilst our office (that is the official dining room) is given a full makeover. Because we set up our computers in there six years ago it has not been decorated as part of the renovation so a big job ahead for David. We plan to move all our dining room furniture in there and make the kitchen diner our office going forward, as we think it is important when the house goes on the market there is another fully functional reception room. So we are making progress and another job ticked off the list…

There are boxes everywhere, some already packed up to be taken away as we declutter and the next few weeks will be a bit chaotic, but it is exciting to be getting on with something we planned to do before Covid.

Apart from that, we now have a few sunny days and I am taking full advantage of the garden. Sitting in the back of the house I am treated to a revue show put on by the crows, starlings, blue tits, sparrows and the resident robin as they enjoy breakfast, lunch and high tea before they go to bed. There is a large swimming pool that is well utilised, and whilst the starlings love to get in there and splash around, the other birds often join in and it is as wild as any pool party I have ever gone to. Very entertaining and distracting, and if I sit quite still, they forget I’m there and get up close and personal.

As always I must thank these three amazing contributors as the blog would not be the same without them.

Smorgasbord Bookshelf 2022- Share an Extract from your latest book – #Poetry #Memoir – More than Coffee: Memories in Verse and Prose by Lauren Scott

Today an extract from poetry and short memoir collection More than Coffee: Memories in Verse and Prose by Lauren Scott.

About the collection

From the early woes of childhood and teen years, this collection of stories and poems paints a picture of young dreams and fears. But as adulthood sets in, these dreams and fears change. More than Coffee touches on love and loss, nature and endurance, marriage and parenting. In these memories, humor diffuses fear and taking risks proves to be a powerful method in boosting self-confidence. Through it all, whether in the wilderness near a sparkling lake or in the comfort of home, there’s nothing like a good cup of coffee. A poignant and reflective collection of verse and prose that is best enjoyed sipping your favorite coffee roast.

Extract from Ascent:

It was all so strange – grieving the passing of my father, and at the same time having planned the trip. After talking to my sisters, they encouraged us to still go. “It’s what Dad would want,” they said. I wasn’t sure it was the right decision, but after much thought, we took my sisters’ advice. I couldn’t ignore the slight guilt of going on the trip while it was all so fresh. I wouldn’t have left if Dad was still in the hospital, but he was at peace now, no longer suffering. In some otherworldly way, I felt his approval.

We began our four-hour drive to the Sierra a few days after his passing. When we arrived, we unloaded our stuff and “suited up”. During the trip preparation, as well as the drive, Matt repeated, “It’s only a mile and a half to the lake!” What he didn’t mention was that the hike entailed an ascent over a huge granite dome. I became anxious because I didn’t feel physically prepared. But his confidence in my ability was apparent, so we began the uphill hike.

When we reached the top and I looked down that sleek granite dome, I was amazed at what I had achieved. Never underestimate our abilities. On the other side of the dome, Shealor Lake was in full view. We gave our legs a short rest, drank some water, then headed downhill with the enticing pull of the lake’s beauty. As we neared the bottom, my emotions ran wild. I was relieved that we finally made it, but a sudden wave of grief washed over me. We removed our packs and sat on a log for a time-out. I was so overwhelmed that the tears found freedom. I didn’t fight them. I cried for the loss of Dad. I cried for having completed this hike that I didn’t think I was capable of. I would’ve backed out graciously had I known the details.

After a few minutes, I composed myself and looked to the lake. The water, a jeweled phenomenon. It sparkled, inviting us for a swim. While we set up our back-country camp, the orange-hot sun blazed down on us as if we had drastically turned up the thermostat, so the cool lake water soothed our sun-kissed skin. The fact that we were all alone in this canyon full of forest and smooth granite was beyond welcoming. The tranquility offered me the chance to reminisce about Dad and my parents together. The solitude afforded a perfect destination to grieve, think, remember, and cry. Mourning the loss of one parent was difficult enough but losing both felt surreal – a new stage of life had begun.

This Sierra adventure provided a chance for hiking and granite-rock hopping. The sun was our alarm clock, bidding us good morning and night as it rose and faded behind the hills. At night, our campfire’s dancing flames mesmerized, and the star-sprinkled sky enthralled. No matter where we explored, magic wrapped us in its warm embrace. This trip challenged my mind, body, and soul. I gained insight into my deepest being, learning not to limit myself. This amazing destination and experience proved to be the best medicine.

Balroop Singh 5.0 out of 5 stars Heart-warming and delightful memoir  Reviewed in the United States on September 23, 2021

More than Coffee: Memories in Verse and Prose by Lauren Scott is a heart-warming memoir that captures lovely moments of childhood, of parents’ love, of attachments, of campfires and hiking with the love of her life. The blissful moments come alive as Scott revels in the good times, letting nostalgia transport her into time machine, to watch the reel unfold like “pictures on a camera roll.” She talks about the value of some priceless gifts that are handed down from one generation to another; she takes pride in the stories that such “gems” tell to evoke fond memories of parents. Only the happy times have been shared in this book.

Written in a simple and straight-forward style, Lauren’s poetry is realistic. ‘To My Babies’ tugged at my heart and I am sure all mothers can relate to this delightful poem. Fragrant memories of “Earthquake Cake” made me smile. ‘Simple Existence’ is thought-provoking and made me pause to comprehend the depth of words that dance across “desert dunes and boundless oceans.” ‘Forever Steady’ too gives you a reflective message to take a breather, look at magical wilderness of nature and see how “delightfully birds sing and trees welcome our company.”

I loved this book and finished it within an hour. If you value relationships and family bonding, this book is for you.

About Lauren Scott

Lauren is a writer of poetry and short memoirs who lives in Northern California with her husband of thirty-two years, Matthew, and their energetic canine, Copper; they have two grown children. She has authored two collections of poetry: New Day, New Dreams (2013) and Finding a Balance (2015). Among other topics, Lauren writes about her experiences on raising a family, grieving through loss, finding joy in the smallest things, and her many backpacking and camping adventures.

Parallel to her passion for writing is her love for reading. Whether it is a gripping thriller or a heartwarming romance, she enjoys exploring different worlds and meeting diverse characters, drawing similarities to reality that translate into her own writing. Her writing projects are sometimes serious – drawn from painful subjects and raw emotions – or they spotlight her silly side – pulled from humorous moments captured in photographs.

Lauren is inspired to write from her love of nature and the marvelous wild world that surrounds her: the smell of the woods, the sound of a babbling brook, and the chorus of birds singing. Recent backpacking trips with her husband along the California coast and Sierra Nevada mountains have stirred up thoughts to pen about love, lost friendship, family, and the possibility that anything can happen. Hikes along the Paper Mill Creek remind her that life is fragile. From trout hatchlings to swallowtail butterflies, Lauren marvels at how the world is interconnected and that every living thing matters. She hopes her readers will find a little nugget of delight, comfort, or understanding in her poetry and stories – some detail that resonates with them beyond her words.

Smorgasbord Bookshelf 2022- Share an Extract from your latest book – #Fantasy The Prince’s Heir (The Five Kingdoms Book 4) by Deborah Jay

Today an extract from the fantasy The Prince’s Heir (The Five Kingdoms Book 4) by Deborah Jay

About the book

Read the gripping conclusion to The Five Kingdoms series…

King Marten’s reign teeters on a blade’s edge. Chel’s Casket, symbol of his right to rule, is missing. Can master spies Rustam and Risada recover it before someone notices its absence and challenges Marten’s sovereignty? Or is there a more sinister motive behind the disappearance of the casket—a relic that could be used to raise Charin, the demonic half of the dual-natured divinity?

As a series of natural disasters besets the kingdoms, evidence points towards interference by the meddlesome deity, and the terrifying prospect of war between its two opposing aspects.

When Marten’s beloved wife, Betha, and their infant daughter vanish, Marten faces a stark choice: save his family, or try to save his kingdom from a conflict that threatens all humanity.

An extract from The Prince’s Heir

“My queen, the baby is quite large, and you are not. You must make every effort you can, even when it seems you have no more to give.”

She didn’t continue, but Betha read the unsaid words in the midwife’s eyes: “If you don’t, you will both die.”

Chel give me strength, she prayed. I didn’t survive Charin’s attentions and a poisoned blade, just to die doing what other women do every day.

She redoubled her effort, and gasped at the strange sensation of the lower part of her body splitting apart. The metallic scent of blood clogged the back of her throat.

“That’s it, my queen, well done: the head’s out. Rest a few moments, that’s the hardest part over.”

Betha lay back obediently and panted while she flashed a quick thanks to the goddess. Her pulse had slowed by the barest fraction when she was urged to push again, but as promised, with very little extra effort she felt the baby slip from her body. The priestess midwives lost interest in her, bustling and cooing at the abruptly wailing infant that was the blessed reward for her efforts.

“It’s a girl, my queen. You have a daught—oh!”

“What?” Alarmed, Betha struggled to sit up, legs tangled in the birthing sheets.

“Don’t!” barked the older woman, and Betha subsided, her muscles going limp.

“Please, tell me what’s wrong.”

The matron bustled around her, plumping pillows and straightening the tangled sheets.

“There’s nothing you can do, my queen, you need to lie still and recover. That was a mighty effort for one, begging your pardon, as small as you are. If you ever want to have another child, now is the time to take care.”

Betha’s heart jumped faster. “Why should I want to think of another child at this moment? What’s wrong with this one? Let me see!”

Wringing her hands together, the older woman nodded to her colleague who, with visible reluctance, approached with the swaddled princess.

“My queen, it is but a small imperfection, she will learn to cope, I’m sure.”

Out of patience, Betha practically snatched the child from the woman and peeled back the blood-stained cloths to behold her squirming daughter for the first time. She inhaled an unfamiliar odour—blood and sour sweat mixed with something oddly sweet—and her chest swelled, tumultuous thoughts overwhelming her mind. An overpowering urge to protect her child gripped her, even at the cost of her own life. Whatever the problem was, it would be of no consequence: her daughter was perfect in every way, and Marten would love her as fully and as vigorously as she did.

“It’s her hand, my queen…”

The midwife’s voice trailed off. Betha frowned. What did the woman mean? Five tiny pink fingers waved randomly in the air; everything as it should be.

And then she beheld her daughter’s left hand. The digits on that side curled like claws, ending in pointed tips that resembled—yes, ‘claws’ was the only fitting description.

D. W. Peach 5.0 out of 5 stars Satisfying end to an high fantasy series  Reviewed in the United States on January 12, 2022

Book 4, the last in the Five Kingdom’s series, ends with a bang! The characters I’ve come to know and care about face some new challenges as well as those that have been brewing since the beginning. King Marten is in danger of losing his throne, and his wife and child are pawns in a dangerous game fueled by religious zealots. Rustum and Risada long for a quiet life, but Rustum is called on by the magical gem-eyes to battle an ice dragon, leaving Risada behind to deal with the conspiracy, murders, and kidnappings.

The duality of the twin gods, one benevolent, the other murderous, finally plays out in this installment of the tale. There are parallels to our world, both ancient and contemporary: the genuine conviction of some people that they know the will of the gods, and the rampant hypocrisy of others who preach godliness while amassing power and committing crimes.

The last 25% of the book is a gigantic confrontation with gripping action. It’s well-written and ultimately satisfying. Subplots regarding the use of magic and family conflicts also wrap up nicely. The pace moves along well.

Rustum’s foray to defeat the ice dragon and capture a mad gem-eye seemed like a bit of a tangent, but it does hone the skills that he’ll need in the final chapters. The characters were consistent throughout the four books. Lead characters, including the villains, were well-rounded, credible, and nuanced, with interesting arcs over the course of the story.

The books all form one story and should be read from start to finish in order. Highly recommended for fans of high fantasy and appropriate for YA readers as well as adults.

Smorgasbord Bookshelf 2022- Share an Extract from your latest book – #Children’s – Tina Lost in a Crowd by Miriam Hurdle

Today an extract from a children’s book by Miriam Hurdle – Tina Lost in a Crowd. A book that I can highly recommend.

About the book

Tina invited her friend Erica to attend a popular Tchaikovsky’s Spectacular concert on a summer evening with her parents. During the intermission, her dad left the seat to buy some snacks. Tina and Erica followed him wanting to use the restroom. The shoving crowd pushed them away, and they lost sight of him. It would be impossible to fight through the 18,000 people to find him or go back to Tina’s mom. What would the girls do?

This story tells about what happened to Tina and Erica after they got lost. Children can adapt to the learning from different situations they may observe or encounter. Adults could have discussions with the children about the situations to help them develop problem-solving skills.

An extract from Tina Lost in a Crowd

The musicians took their seats. The conductor came from backstage to the front of the orchestra. The audience clapped their hands to welcome the conductor. When he lifted his baton, the audience kept quiet, and the music started. The first half of the concert went by quickly. Tina recognized the music from the animated movie, Swan Lake.

Then, it was time for a twenty-minute intermission. Mr. Tyler got up to buy some snacks.

“Mom, I need to go to the restroom,” said Tina.

“Me too, Mrs. Tyler,” added Erica.

“Go catch your dad, Tina. He’ll show you the restroom. Hurry and catch him!” Mrs. Tyler helped the girls get past the other people sitting in their row.

“Hurry, Erica! Dad is right there,” said Tina.

Erica held Tina’s hand tight and kept up the pace. They soon caught up with Tina’s dad.

“Dad, Dad….” Tina called as she pulled on her dad’s jacket.

“Uh oh! … Sorry…” As Tina lifted her eyes, the man turned around. It was not her dad.

“Where did your dad go?” Erica asked.

“He was right in front of us. Where did he go?” Tina looked at all the people coming and going from many directions.

“What shall we do? Should we go look for your dad? Should we go back to your mom?” Erica held Tina’s hand even tighter.

“I don’t know where Dad went. I can’t remember where Mom is.” Tina looked anxiously toward the direction where they had come from and tried to spot her mom.

“What are we going to do? How can we get to our seats?” Erica worried.

“Wait, we should not go anywhere. We should stay here. I remember Mom told me a long time ago that if I could not see her, stay where I am, and she would come to find me. She said don’t be afraid. Don’t run around looking for her or Dad. I might go further away from them.”

Tina squeezed Erica’s hand a little and pulled her back against the wall to get out of people’s way.

Marsha Ingrao 5.0 out of 5 stars If You Are Lost Remember to Do This..  Reviewed in the United States on April 1, 2022

Miriam writes about a very important topic for a parent to teach their children at a very young age – what to do if they are lost. This young girl and her friend got lost at Hollywood Bowl. I’ve been there with adults, and it’s scary even then to be separated in a crowd of 10-20 thousand people. Cell phones help, but what if the child doesn’t have one? Miriam has a simple rule she shared in the book, so this would be a great book to read with your child and then discuss your own ideas with your children. All in all a great story based on a true event.
