Now for an update for author Angie Dokos who continues to receive excellent reviews for her book Mackenzie’s Distraction.

51et2jncwzl-_uy250_About the book.

Mackenzie’s Distraction is a New Adult Romance about a young lady with a rough past and a promising future. Just when he career is within reach, tragedy strikes. A terrible accident and a family secret turn Mackenzie’s world upside down. She’s sure her life can’t become any more complicated, then she meets Trevor. Will he be just what she needs or the distraction that pushes her over the edge?

This book is not erotica, but does have sexual content. It includes some curse words, but not many. It doesn’t have any major violence.

The latest review

A tragic family accident suddenly turns Mackenzie’s world upside down. But then a long-held family secret is exposed, ripping open old wounds with heart wrenching results.

Fighting her own demons from an uncertain past, Mackenzie, with the help of her family, desperately fights to turn a negative past into a positive future. But that emotional roller coaster has its own challenges, ending up with her pushing away and hurting some people that love her and want to help her, especially Trevor, an unexpected love interest she wasn’t prepared to deal with. Emotions run deep as a family struggling to deal, not only with a tragic accident, but must handle a highly charged secret that threatens the very fabric of their family.

Will old wounds heal? Can Mackenzie let her past dictate her future, or can she come to terms with the past and accept it? This story conveys a positive message regarding the importance of family, accepting the past, healing, turning your life around, and looking forward to a future Mackenzie dared not to hope for: a promising future with those she loves.

Deanie Humphrys-Dunne is author of the wonderful series of books for children and young adults (of all ages). Her book Charlene the Star is now available in a revised edition.

charlene-newAbout the book

Charlene the Star was born into a family of famous racehorses. Unlike her big brother Charlie, Charlene decides she doesn’t like racing. How will she explain this to her mom?

The latest review for the book

Charlene the Star was born into a family of famous racehorses. She had beautiful dark red hair, brown eyes, and nice long legs just perfect for being a racehorse. However, Charlene decides racing is not for her. Charlene does not know how to tell her mother this. Quite a dilemma for a youngster. You will have to read Charlene the Star to find out what happens next in this delightful story by Deanie Humphrys-Dunne. I recommend this book for young readers 7-12, and especially for those who are horse lovers.

If you have not read Tails of Sweetbrier by Deanie Humphrys-Dunne, it is a must do! Tails of Sweetbrier is a touching true story of determination about a little girl that was diagnosed with a condition Cerebral Palsy and was told by her doctor that she would never be able to walk. Her father would not accept that diagnosis and instills faith in his little girl, and he set out to teach her to ride horses and felt if she could do that, she would be okay. Loved this book!

Saturday Round Up -Book Trailers, Swans, Bull’s accessories!

They say time flies when you are having fun and they are not in jest. It has been a great week and the sun has been shining most of it and despite cold temperatures at night I have maintained my tan and Vitamin D levels for an hour every afternoon.  This means that I also have enjoyed uninterrupted reading for that hour which is a delightful bonus.

No news on the house yet but with Christmas on the horizon it is likely to be spring before people feel they have the time or inclination to house hunt and then pack up and move.. Still it is out there and just a matter of time.

I have to say a huge thank you for the support for the Tales from the Garden launch procession. Each guest post is different as I wanted to provide something unique for the kind people who invited me into their blog. I hope that you will enjoy the ‘behind the scenes’

There was a competition this week for a personalised story in the format of Tales from the Garden and the three winners have been notified. I am working on their stories in the next few days and hope to unveil them soon.

A couple of new features for the run up to Christmas.. Book Trailers are very useful for marketing new releases and also for giving previous books a boost.  For example, if you have three or four books in a series putthing them together in a video trailer and embedding in your books page on WordPress gives you an opportunity to set the scene for the next in the series. You do not need a huge number of images as you can fill in gaps between covers with short snippets of your blurb etc. There is software available but if you feel that you need the services of a professional check out The Story Reading Ape… – I am not on commission but I might be in for a handful of nuts!!

Anyway on with the show and I thought we might start with some music to put us in the mood. Here is William Price King’s choice of Christmas music this week. Ella Fitzgerald with Sleigh Ride.. details of the songs history are in the post.

About An Elfy on the Loose

One Elfy for an entire planet?

He’s supposed to be the Watcher for his people, the representative on Earth from his dimension, but the small being known to his enemies as “Jonny-Wonny” wakes up to big trouble — trapped in a bizarre house in Knightsville, California with humans straight out of reality TV. Jon knows that something has gone dreadfully wrong — he’s starving, lonely and dressed in funny clothes.

Enter the couple’s ten-year-old diminutive daughter, who is “Not Daisy!” but is brilliant, sweet…and using high level magic with ease. She’s also desperately in need of a friend.

Insisting her name is really Sarah, and christening him Bruno, his new friend asks him how they’re going to get out of there.

Fantastic genre crossover! By Stephanie Osborn, Novelist on April 12, 2014 Format: Kindle Edition

This book has almost everything: fantasy, mystery, romance, suspense, thriller, paranormal, you name it — and that sounds like it would be a hodgepodge, doesn’t it? But it isn’t. Everything flows together beautifully, leaving a fascinating story that will keep you on the edge of your seat! I highly recommend it, and since I don’t usually write book reviews, that’s saying a good bit!

A new feature began this week to celebrate the release of new books. It is tough getting noticed as an Indie writer when there are thousands of titles being released each week. However, whilst not one big splash, by working within the blogging community we can create enough ripples to spread the message far and wide. Thank you to those who have sent in their new books to be featured we have a growing list. If you see one of the posts please do share on FB, Twitter or any other of your networks and let’s give these new books a great send off.

If you do not have a new release but have books you would like to give a little boost to then why not contact me about doing a Five Star Treatment along with over 60 other authors so far.  Also if you have a new release coming out in the near future you can promote by starring a previous book in this series.

Five Star Treatment – To Survive the Maelstrom – by Barb Caffrey

Today I am featuring a novella by Barb Caffrey who is also a prolific short story writer. She is offering the book for only 99cents until 27th July so hope you will take her up on that.

About the Novella

Command Sergeant-Major Sir Peter Welmsley of the Atlantean Union has lost everything he holds dear. He wonders why he lived, when so many others died at Hunin — including his fiancée, Lydia, and his best friend Chet.

Into his life comes Grasshunter’s Cub, an empathic, sentient creature known to those on Heligoland as a “weremouse.”

Weremice are known for their ability to help their bond-mates. But how can this young weremouse find a way to bring Peter back from the brink of despair and start living again?

The Review

A stand-alone story with bits of the past and the future sprinkled in; healing comes to a wounded warrior. By Pat Patterson on July 10, 2015 Format: Kindle Edition

I obtained ‘To Survive the Maelstrom’ through my Kindle Unlimited subscription. (For all you search engines, that’s also KU or KULL.) This is my first Caffrey review, although evidently I’ve read other work in collections; I’m afraid I don’t pay attention often to the authors in such works. My bad.

This story is, for me, a first kiss. If I’ve read about Peter Welmsley and the Atlantean Union in the past, I’ve lost those memories, but the first kiss makes me want more.

Peter Welmsely is a broken man. As a Marine, he was in a catastrophic battle in a place called Hunin, where he lost his fiance, his best friends, and more than 80% of his company. He himself was so seriously wounded, his body required a rebuild, leaving him with the body of an 18 year old, and the loss of his battered, scarred, graying body is just another one of the losses he has to deal with.

The physical healing accomplished, Peter now has to come to terms with his other losses. He’s elected to spend a month camping in an area with three small sentient species, one of them a friendly type called a were mouse. He hopes, in the time, to be able to heal, but so far, that’s not working out. The nightmares are terrible, but even awake, the memories are there.

But were mice are not only sentient, they have the ability to communicate at an emotional level, and the empath that takes up residence near Peter is determined to make contact.
Since this is my first read in this storyline, I have absolutely no idea what’s ahead. The first kiss is enough to let me know I want more, though,

Special Price until July 27th. Normally $2.99 the book will be 99 cents.
