Welcome to the round up of posts you might have missed during the week..

I hope you have had a good week and are enjoying the weekend. There has been some more work on the house and it is really beginning to take shape… Ironic that we will get it looking great only to pass on to someone else lol.. Anyway that is a month or so away but I am already looking at property pages in the areas we are planning to look at seriously in the coming months. I am trying to be sensible about downsizing!!!  Apart from anything else with heating oil having almost tripled in the last three months, heating a large house becomes an expensive luxury.

I am hoping that are luck with finding just the right house for us will hold, and whilst I am not looking forward to the packing up process, I am excited about finding our next home, intended to be our last. And also to finally welcome a new dog into the family, long overdue.

This week my friends William Price King, Debby Gies and Carol Taylor have given us music, sunshine and sea in Puerto Rico and wonderful recipes and I cannot thank them enough for their wonderful contributions. They are also busy on their own blogs and I hope you will head over to check them out.

Welcome to our show and we are excited to share decades of music with you in 2022.

Here is my second selection of top 1996 hits which I hope you will enjoy.

The Wallflowers – One headlight

“One headlight” was written by lead singer Jakob Dylan and produced by T-Bone Burnett, from the band’s second studio album “Bringing down the Horse.” The song is known for being the first single to reach #1 on all three of Billboard’s rock airplay charts: the Modern Rock Tracks chart, the Mainstream Rock Songs chart, and the Adult Alternative Songs chart. “One Headlight” also peaked at #1 in Canada for five weeks. In 2000, the song was listed at #58 on Rolling Stone and MTVs list of “100 Greatest Pop Songs of All Time.”

July 8th British girls group the Spice Girls release their debut single “Wannabe” in the UK 

Alanis Morissette – Ironic

“Ironic” was the third single from the album “Jagged Little Pill,” written by Morissette and Glen Ballard. The lyrics present several situations described as “ironic,” which led to a debate as to whether any of these actually match the accepted meaning of irony. For six weeks, the track topped the Canadian RPM Top Singles chart. It also reached the top five in Australia, New Zealand, and Norway. In the US, it reached #4, and was her highest-charting single on the Billboard Hot 100. The song won the Juno Award for Single of the Year, and received two Grammy Award nominations for Record of the Year and Best Short Form Music Video, which was filmed by French director Stephane Sednaoui. MTV nominated the music video for six MTV Video Music Awards, winning three.

July 9th “Blue” debut album by LeAnn Rimes is released (Billboard Album of the Year, 1997)

Take That – How Deep Is Your Love

“How Deep Is Your Love” is a pop ballad written and recorded by the Bee Gees in 1977 and released as a single in September of that year. It was ultimately used as part of the soundtrack to the film Saturday Night Fever

Take That’s version was released as a single from their Greatest Hits compilation in 1996. The single went on to become what was to be the band’s final UK number one until their 2006 comeback single “Patience” a decade later. The song stayed at number one in the UK charts for three weeks. The single sold 671,000 copies and has received a Platinum sales status certification in the UK. The song also topped the charts in Denmark, Ireland, Israel, Latvia and Spain. fionapeakall

October 12th Farm Aid IX held in Columbia, South Carolina; performers include Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp, Neil Young, Hootie and the Blowfish, The Beach Boys, Son Volt, Robert Earl Keen, Martina McBride, Jewel, and John Conlee

Eric Clapton – Change the World

“Change the World” is a song written by Tommy Sims, Gordon Kennedy, and Wayne Kirkpatrick, the best-known version of which was recorded by English singer Eric Clapton for the soundtrack of the 1996 film Phenomenon. The track was produced by R&B record producer Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds and was first recorded and released by Country singer Wynonna Judd on her album Revelations.

The Clapton release, recorded for Reprise and Warner Bros. Records, reached the top 40 in twenty countries and topped the charts in Canada, as well as Billboard magazine’s Adult Contemporary and Adult Top 40 charts in the United States. The single won eight awards, including three Grammy Awards at the 39th annual ceremony in 1997 Amazon

November 4th British girls group the Spice Girls release their debut album “Spice”, goes on to sell 23 million copies

Your Hosts for The Breakfast Show

William Price King is an American jazz singer, crooner, and composer.

His interest in music began at an early age when he studied piano and clarinet in high school. At Morehouse College in Atlanta where he grew up, he sang in the Glee Club and studied classical music. After graduation he went off to the Yale School of Music where he earned a Masters degree. From there he journeyed to New York where he created a jazz trio ‘Au Naturel’ which performed in some of the hottest venues in Manhattan including gigs on Broadway and the famous ‘Rainbow Room.’ These gigs opened doors for performances in Montreal and a European tour.

While touring Europe he met a lovely French lady, Jeanne Maïstre, who, a year later became his wife. King left the group ‘Au Naturel’ and settled in the south of France where he started a new life on the French Riviera, opening his own music school – the “Price King Ecole Internationale de Chant.” He has had the pleasure over the years of seeing many of his students excel as singers on a professional level, and some going on to become national celebrities. He continues to coach young singers today, in his spare time.

Sally Cronin is an author, blogger and broadcaster who enjoyed four years as part of the team on Onda Cero International’s English speaking morning show in Marbella and then for two years as a presenter on Expressfm the local radio station in Portsmouth. She co-presented two ‘Drive Time’ shows a week with Adrian Knight, hosted the live Thursday Afternoon Show and The Sunday Morning Show guests including musicians and authors. Following this she became Station Director for a local internet television station for two years, producing and presenting the daily news segment, outside broadcasts and co-presenting the Adrian and Sally chat show live on Friday evenings.

She and her husband David have now returned to Ireland where they live on the Wexford Coast where she blogs and continues to write books.
