Smorgasbord Poetry – Colleen Chesebro’s weekly Tanka Challenge – #Haibun – The Long Drop by Sally Cronin

This week on Colleen Chesebro Tuesday Poetry Challeng no 184 – we have been asked to write in a specific format.. which is the Haibun…Colleen gives very clear directions on this interesting prose and verse form, and there is also the added bonus of a great photo shared by Frank J. Tassone. It did rather lead me down a darker path than normal…lol

Haibun – The Long Drop

Let’s take a hike he invited. Up where the sky meets the mountain top. Won’t there be bears I questioned. Not at this time of year he assured me. Excited and well equipped, we trod the long uneven trail. Finally, at the top, he turned and cautioned me to be careful. However, the beauty of the view needed to be celebrated. He gently moved me into position at the edge and stepped back camera in hand. He waved me backwards smiling encouragingly. My last sight of his face revealed a satisfied and knowing look.
