Welcome to the round up of posts you might have missed during the week..

I hope you have had a good week and are enjoying the weekend. There has been some more work on the house and it is really beginning to take shape… Ironic that we will get it looking great only to pass on to someone else lol.. Anyway that is a month or so away but I am already looking at property pages in the areas we are planning to look at seriously in the coming months. I am trying to be sensible about downsizing!!!  Apart from anything else with heating oil having almost tripled in the last three months, heating a large house becomes an expensive luxury.

I am hoping that are luck with finding just the right house for us will hold, and whilst I am not looking forward to the packing up process, I am excited about finding our next home, intended to be our last. And also to finally welcome a new dog into the family, long overdue.

This week my friends William Price King, Debby Gies and Carol Taylor have given us music, sunshine and sea in Puerto Rico and wonderful recipes and I cannot thank them enough for their wonderful contributions. They are also busy on their own blogs and I hope you will head over to check them out.

D.G. Kaye

Welcome to the round up of posts on Smorgasbord that you might have missed this week.

I hope you are doing well in your neck of the woods. In this one we have had some glorious weather this last week and I have taken advantage of the garden. Decorating is going well with the dining room now pearl grey and white woodwork.. Awaiting the floor to be sanded and I am off to buy new curtains during the week.

The young plants I potted a couple of weeks ago are beginning to flower and it is a bit of mystery as to the colours as I bought variety packs and in a week or two I will share the results.

On the blog front

I am delighted that I Wish I Knew Then series is being enjoyed and there are several more scheduled for the coming weeks and so grateful to those who are participating and sharing their stories. This week Jacquie Biggar, Rebecca Budd, Denise Finn and Jacqui Murray share their thoughts on the prompt.

As always I will be putting on a Summer Book Fair featuring all the authors that I have personally recommended who are on the Smorgasbord Bookshelf. In the first posts beginning in June, I will be sharing books that are the first in a series to encourage readers to start at the beginning and hopefully then read the following books. I will then continue with authors with stand alone novels, non-fiction, memoirs etc.  Look out for that from June 6th through to September.

As always I must thank these three amazing contributors as the blog would not be the same without them.

William Price King joined me on The Breakfast show this week for the second part of the hits from 1994 and for the last part of the series on Friday featuring Ella Fitzgerald. – On Friday William begins a new series about the legendary Aretha Franklin. You can also find William – Blog– IMPROVISATION– William Price King on Tumblr

In her ‘My Kitchen Post, she shares some store cupboard basics, in her Food Review what constitutes ‘processed food’ and in Saturday Snippets her prompt is Glass.

Smorgasbord Blog Magazine – 29th August – September 4th 2021 – New Book Promotions, Out and About, Fleetwood Mac, Reviews, Health, Shortstories and Humour

Welcome to the round up of posts you might have missed this week on Smorgasbord.

Another week has flown by and I am extremely grateful for every drop of rain, little bit of sunshine and even the inevitability of the restrictions still placed upon us in Ireland for at least the next 6 weeks until October 22nd.

How very lucky we are to have such predictability, when so many have been faced with devastation and fear as they try to flee their homes in the face of violence and terror, or in the case of those on the east coast of America the natural malevolence of the weather.

It is good to see many nations reaching out to take in refugees but there are still millions who are left behind to face a very different future than they had wished for.

The Cafe and Bookstore New Book Promotions

If you are already in the Cafe and Bookstore please let me know if you have a new book coming out over the next few weeks either on pre-order or available on Amazon so that I can set up a new book promotion. I have a format for the post so only need a link for either Amazon US or UK and I will take care of the rest.

If you are not already in the cafe, please read the post at the following link to find out more about what I need from you: Smorgasbord Cafe and Bookstore – New Book on the Shelves 2021 – #Free book promotion

Over the next few weeks in addition to the book marketing podcasts, I will be sharing some pre-recorded posts from my time on The Main Ingredient radio show with Kelli Brett in Spain. They are based on my Turning Back the Clock book from 2005 which offers some anti-aging strategies. I thought you might enjoy the format as Kelli Brett is very entertaining and we had a love of fun with the shows.  Not all the series survived but I will record those again.

I hope you will join me in knocking off a few years and getting ready for the winter months. The first post goes out Monday.

I will also be recording the next series of book marketing and public relations for authors to share with you.

I was out and about this week with Annika Perry who did a lovely feature and review for Life is Like a Tapestry – Woven in Words…

Welcome to the round up of posts you might have missed this week on Smorgasbord.

I hope everyone is well despite the rising cases of Covid…our cases are on the increase here in Ireland too and not sure that is going to impact the lifting of restrictions in coming weeks. Not that we will be sunning ourselves on the beach for the next ten days.. but the grass is staying lovely and green this ‘summer’!

But today I would like to focus on the positive as one of our long term supporter of the blog and resident in the Cafe and Bookstore, Judith Barrow has been shortlisted for The Rhys Davies Fiction Award for The Memory.. a book that I can highly recommend – my review

This prestigious award is part of Wales Book of the Year People’s Choice Award 2021 and is dependent on public votes. It is very easy.. all you have to do is click on The Memory and your vote is counted.

Here is a screenshot of the listing of Judith’s book… and below is the link to the page where you will find the voting panel for the books… I hope you will head over to support this amazing author and friend to so many. Just wonderful to see Judith receive the recognition she deserves..

Here is the link for the rest of the article…please take just a minute of your time to head over to cast your vote – thanks Sally: Wales Book of The Year 2021 – Article and Voting panel

Welcome to the round up of posts you might have missed this week on Smorgasbord.

I hope that the week has been good for you.. nothing very exciting to report from our neck of the woods except that I will be having my first official haircut on Monday after almost a year of hacking it myself in the front and David using clippers on the back.. To be hones wearing a mask in public I am sure nobody noticed but it will be great to have some shape back in it… that is if my hairdresser is still talking to me!

I am just about to head out to the garden with books and music to catch some rays… the promised tropical air mass is hovering over us for the next couple of days. I believe the temperature is going up to 17 C (62F) degrees and I am concerned that I might become overheated!!

With that in mind and the window of opportunity rather small….time to get on with the posts.

My great thanks to the contributors this week.. William Price King, D.G. Kaye, Carol Taylor and Daniel Kemp... they add so much to the blog and it would not be the same without them.

Smorgasbord Blog Magazine – Weekly Round Up – May 9th – 15th 2021 – 1960s hits, Grief, Green Kitchen, Health, Stories, Poetry, books, reviews and funnies

Welcome to the weekly round up with some posts you might have missed here on Smorgasbord.

I hope you are all well… I know that like us here restrictions are being lifted in many countries although In Ireland there is going to be a slow roll out depending on any upsurge in cases.

The big news here is that overnight on Thursday criminals hacked the health service which is now offline which has resulted in the cancellation of thousands of appointments and more seriously life-saving operations. The government stance is that they will not pay any ransom and so as of this moment it appears that we are at an impasse. We all know that these parasites are out there, but to do this when all countries and their populations are at their most vulnerable is heinous.  All I can do is wish them everything they wish upon others!

This means that despite assurances that the vaccination programme will be unaffected, it probably will be. So no idea when I will be getting my first…

On a brighter note, and thankfully there usually is one…the sun popped out periodically during the week and took some time off for some badly needed fresh air and a Vitamin D boost.

Also as always, I am very grateful to my friends and co-conspirators this week William Price King co-hosting the Breakfast Show with me with some more 1960s music, D.G. Kaye with her new May relationship column exploring the impact of grief on our lives, and some funnies to keep us smiling, Carol Taylor with The Green Kitchen… and if you love soft dinner rolls…dig in.. And last but not least Daniel Kemp who shared his special brand of humour a the Open Mic Night.

Fantastic and talented friends.

Smorgasbord Blog Magazine – Weekly Round Up – 31st May – June 6th 2020 – #Waterford, Elvis, Foxes, Lamaze Classes, poetry, books, reviews and Health

Time continues to pass rapidly despite the turmoil in the world, and suddenly it is Saturday again. Welcome to the posts that you might have missed on Smorgasbord during the week.

Something to think about

I am so tempted to switch off from the news headlines and retreat into my rural sanctuary here in Ireland and ignore the world and its desperation. But, I am part of the world, as we all are, and our words and actions have consequences, especially today with the immediacy of our online contributions. It feels like a powder keg with a lit fuse coiling around the globe, as people take to the streets and their knees, in response to actions that even 10 years ago would have gone unnoticed except for those swept up in the events.

In our modern age of mobile phones with cameras, social media and a growing frustration with what is seen as archaic methods of out of date policing and government, it is unwise for anyone in power to assume that their actions will be swept under the carpet, and that there will not be consequences. Having said that, it also applies to the minority who are taking advantage of the situation by looting and carrying out acts of violence on innocent bystanders and businesses.

Fear and lack of leadership has led to disproportionate reactions from the authorities which has just fueled the situation. Instead of talking and reaching a consensus on a way forward, this reaction is destined to be repeated, unless radical changes are made. It is however, heartwarming, to see that even under such stress, many of those behind the shields have taken to a knee and shared their solidarity with the peaceful protestors.

For those protesting peacefully, I am with you all the way. It is not just the approach to colour in the media, by the authorities, and in the community, it is about developing a whole new approach to education, health care, and employment that currently creates such a divide in our nations. This is not just in the USA but also in countries in Europe where inequality still thrives across the different cultures and sectors of society.

We seem to have forgotten that under our skin colour, beneath our beliefs and beyond our different languages, we all share the same physiology and as human beings, we all have inalienable rights.

One of the most basic rights should be that our fellow man will look out for us when we are being persecuted.

And now time for the posts from the week…and thank you for all the support that I am very grateful for. As I am for the contributors who add such flavour, knowledge and humour to the blog each week.
