Smorgasbord Blog Magazine – Weekly Round up 9th- 15th May 2022 – Ella Fitzgerald, St. Thomas, Magnesium, Short Stories, Podcast, Health, Travel, Books, Reviews, Health and Humour

Welcome to the round up of posts on Smorgasbord that you might have missed this week.

I hope you are doing well in your neck of the woods. In this one we have had some glorious weather this last week and I have taken advantage of the garden. Decorating is going well with the dining room now pearl grey and white woodwork.. Awaiting the floor to be sanded and I am off to buy new curtains during the week.

The young plants I potted a couple of weeks ago are beginning to flower and it is a bit of mystery as to the colours as I bought variety packs and in a week or two I will share the results.

On the blog front

I am delighted that I Wish I Knew Then series is being enjoyed and there are several more scheduled for the coming weeks and so grateful to those who are participating and sharing their stories. This week Jacquie Biggar, Rebecca Budd, Denise Finn and Jacqui Murray share their thoughts on the prompt.

As always I will be putting on a Summer Book Fair featuring all the authors that I have personally recommended who are on the Smorgasbord Bookshelf. In the first posts beginning in June, I will be sharing books that are the first in a series to encourage readers to start at the beginning and hopefully then read the following books. I will then continue with authors with stand alone novels, non-fiction, memoirs etc.  Look out for that from June 6th through to September.

As always I must thank these three amazing contributors as the blog would not be the same without them.

William Price King joined me on The Breakfast show this week for the second part of the hits from 1994 and for the last part of the series on Friday featuring Ella Fitzgerald. – On Friday William begins a new series about the legendary Aretha Franklin. You can also find William – Blog– IMPROVISATION– William Price King on Tumblr

Debby Gies took us to St. Thomas this week on the Travel Column… and on her own blog shares her thoughts on being back in Toronto after her Mexican winter break and adjusting to the solitude again, weather and how grief plays its role in her perspective on life and the future. How Am I Doing?  Head over to her blog to catch up on her posts including her Sunday Book Review D.G. Writes

Carol Taylor shared some amazing recipes this week to ensure we are getting sufficient Magnesium in our diet… on her own blog she reminds us about animals waking up after hibernation in our gardens and in particular what to and not to feed hedgehogs in her Monday Musings,

In her ‘My Kitchen Post, she shares some store cupboard basics, in her Food Review what constitutes ‘processed food’ and in Saturday Snippets her prompt is Glass.

Head over to catch up on Carol’s posts this week: CarolCooks2 weekly roundup… 8th -14th May 2022-Monday Musings, Health, Food Review “” and Saturday Snippets where “Glass” is my prompt.

Smorgasbord Blog Magazine Weekly Round Up – 11th – 17th April 2022 – Twitter fakes, Hits 1992, Ella Fitzgerald, #Caribbean, Vitamin C, Stories, Poetry, Reviews, Health and Funnies

Welcome to the round up of posts you might have missed this week on Smorgasbord.

It seems that winter is dragging on for many this week including places that hve been seeing some unseasonal cold weather and frosts such as South America, with some crops at risk at this critical stage in their growth. By this time I usually have my planters full of flowers but last week we had several severe frosts but hopeful it will be warmer this week. Apart from the colour in the garden.. the exercise would be welcome, especially after we shared a box of luxury chocolates for Easter instead of eggs… a little of what you fancy does you good!!.

On another note. This week someone decided to use my name and photograph and open an account on Twitter. One of my contacts alerted me to it early in the week as they had been approached but she saw it was a different twitter tag although it was my name and picture. Also there was no profile to indicate who and what this person was nor where there any tweets made.

I reported and blocked them. This is important as they are usually after your connections and all they have to do is click on Followers in a profile and then keep clicking the follow button without much limitation.

Many people follow back automatically when a notification appears in their timeline without heading over to check who it is they are following. This means that this fake person can end up with potentially thousands of followers who they can then target for one purpose or another. For example book promotion sites who claim to have 250,000 connections and ask for £50 a promotion!  Or it may be direct messages promoting their goods or even asking donations for a charity etc.

Anyway.. my twitter is @sgc58… and it is Sally Georgina Cronin

They are using twitter.com/germaine_ellen  and it is a good idea to block them to stop them mining your followers and if you feel like reporting them then that is a good idea too.

I did report to twitter and told them they were impersonating me but they wanted me to upload my passport or driving licence to prove who I was. I am not doing that as most social media sites as as leaky as my kitchen colander.

It is best to check before following back anyone.. if they are genuine they will have at least some form of profile to indicate who and what they are and they have tweeted.

There is always something to be grateful for, including these three amazing contributors.

My thanks to William Price King for joining me on The Breakfast show this week and for the first part of the new series for Friday featuring Ella Fitzgerald.  – You can also find William – Blog– IMPROVISATION– William Price King on Tumblr

Welcome to the round up of posts you might have missed this week on Smorgasbord.

I don’t think anyone around the world will have missed this week’s headlines when Covid was eclipsed by the unfolding battle for the Ukraine. The courage and patriotism of the people and their president is astounding and they deserve all the support the rest of the world can provide.

It certainly makes the storms we have been facing over the last three weeks simply weather, and mother nature reminding us that we cannot contol everything in our world. But there is no malice, greed or hatred which is the dubious perogative of human nature.

Book Promotion.

Delighted to have had some lovely extracts for this new series beginnning in March and here is a reminder of how you can give your most recent book a plug by sharing a 500 word extract… All the details are in the post link below.. Look foward to hearing from you.

Smorgasbord Blog Magazine Round Up – December 26th – January 2nd 2022 – New Schedule, Starship, NY Party, Shortstories, Reviews, Bloggers and Funnies

Welcome to the round up of posts bridging the gap between 2021 and 2022…

Happy New Year and wishing us all a healthy, wealthy and love filled year whatever life and opportunistic pathogens throw at us.

We had a quiet Christmas and New Year with plenty of movies, good food and the occasional glass of cheer. As with most countries there has been an avalanche of cases here topping 23,000 yesterday, which for a country with only 5 million people.. is high. Thankfully the trend of deaths associated with Omicron is lower than previous variants and there is evidence from other countries such as South Africa that it comes in fast and furious and then burns itself out… Fingers crossed it is its last attempt to infect the world and we see a more positive outcome in 2022.

We have not made resolutions for many years but we have made plans. To redecorate the house and put in the market by the summer. Find a new home further down the south east coast of Ireland, possibly between Wexford and Waterford. And once moved it would be good to be able to travel a little before coming back to settle down with a new fur baby.

Flexibility and adaptability have to be built in to those plans, but that is something we are prepared for.  And there is also time allocated for me to finish some of my writing projects and read more books in 2022.

As always I have had help this week between Christmas and New Year by much appreciated friends and collaborators – William Price King, Debby Gies and Malcolm Allen.

In 2022 William and I will continue with The Breakfast Show on Tuesdays… and I am also sharing updated posts from William’s two series – Jazz Icons and Music Greats on Fridays over the year.

D.G. Kaye’s Travel Column Rewind begins tomorrow morning with updates on travel restrictions for all the countries featured, which are open for tourism.

Carol Taylor and I will reshare the posts Cook from Scratch to prevent Deficiency from this Wednesday.

The Health Column returns on Thursday with the series The Gentle Detox to get you into 2022 in good shape.

The new Smorgasbord Bookshelf kicks off with two new releases during the week and the new series of Meet the Authors begins on the 10th.

There will be afternoon videos, some funnies, short stories and a blogger daily.

I hope you will enjoy the new schedule and join us when you have the time. As always I am so appreciative of your support

I hope you are all doing well.. Still too many cases of Covid around the world but I am sure like me you are still taking precautions when out and about.

Nothing really to report on the home front as we are waiting on a couple of indoor jobs to be done this week.. chimney swept and the wood burner repairs. After a month of rain in three days, like much of the UK, we are grateful for a dry and sunny day. Just a brief respite but very welcome.

Happy Halloween and wishing you a great many more treats than tricks.. I have shared a party to celebrate the event which was first aired in 2018 with some great guests in costume.. and a guessing game as to who they are.. There is also food, drink and music.

Smorgasbord Blog Magazine Round Up – 17th – 23rd October 2021 – Pink Floyd, Movies, Short Stories, Books, Reviews, Anti-Aging, Health and Humour

Welcome to the round up of posts you might have missed this week on Smorgasbord.

Another week flown by and well and truly into autumn.. This week a major job in the garden with the side and back of the house now fully lawned. Not that I can claim any credit except for buying the biscuits to go with cups of tea, but the team who were doing the work barely stopped for a break. Very impressed with the result and they did an amazing job.

That is the last of the major jobs before tackling the internal decoration and waiting for the guy to come and repair the wood stove.. we now have all the spare parts and it will be great to get them off the dining room table…

I have finished my clothes, bags and shoes declutter and next week I shall be starting on the kitchen cupboards…that will be interesting…

The Blog

I am also working on the blog format and plans for 2022.. I shall be entering my 70th year and I have an urge to complete some online and offline projects  to celebrate. I also would like to revamp the blog in some areas, particularly if they are going to drop the classic editor completely so need to get that done before 31st December.

If you do visit the Cafe and Bookstore, you will see that for the rest of the year I won’t be accepting any new authors. My focus will be on the existing authors, their new books and reviews, and I am planning to feature everyone in the annual Christmas Book Fair.

Next year I want to up my own reviews for authors to hopefully help get their books noticed, and I will be doing some new features throughout the year to promote those in the Cafe.

I will do more on my podcast as well and also I plan on turning some of my own books into audio versions.

I began the blog in 2012.. so a ten year anniversary and in whatever the format it might take,  I am looking forward to sharing it with you.

As always my thanks to William Price King, Debby Gies and Malcolm Allen for their contributions this week.. and to you for visiting, sharing and commenting.

Smorgasbord Blog Magazine Weekly Round Up – 10th – 16th October 2021 – Crows, Robins, Diana Ross, Relationships, Stories, Reviews, Health and Humour

Welcome to the round up of posts that you might have missed on Smorgasbord this week.

I hope all is well with you. Quite a bit going on around here with spare parts for the wood burner, tiles to replace cracked ones and other bits and pieces arriving daily. We are still waiting on those who will be installing topsoil, lawn, fixing said wood burner and chimney sweeping but early days yet… no fixed day or week was mentioned in negotiations! When we can ‘fit you in’ seems to be the common phrase you wait patiently.  David will be fixing the tiles himself during the redecoration process so no mystery there.

An earlier photo of Charlie

We believe that Charlie has been back in the garden. We noticed a crow, slightly bigger which is to be expected, but with the same mottled grey markings foraging under the bird feeder, accompanied by a friend. He still has trouble flying but managed to clear the hedge and perch on a telephone line. What made us think it was Charlie was that he wiped his beak from side to side on the line. Because his beak was damaged he did that after eating so we are hoping it was him.

Other than that I am making progress on the writing front and you can read an example in the post that Jane Risdon kindly shared this week…with an excerpt from the next collection.

I was the guest of author Jane Risdon who shared my short story, Miss Lloyd’s Robin, from the new collection due out at the end of the year… I hope you will head over to read.. Thanks to Jane for also showcasing Life is Like a Mosaic…

Smorgasbord Blog Magazine – 29th August – September 4th 2021 – New Book Promotions, Out and About, Fleetwood Mac, Reviews, Health, Shortstories and Humour

Welcome to the round up of posts you might have missed this week on Smorgasbord.

Another week has flown by and I am extremely grateful for every drop of rain, little bit of sunshine and even the inevitability of the restrictions still placed upon us in Ireland for at least the next 6 weeks until October 22nd.

How very lucky we are to have such predictability, when so many have been faced with devastation and fear as they try to flee their homes in the face of violence and terror, or in the case of those on the east coast of America the natural malevolence of the weather.

It is good to see many nations reaching out to take in refugees but there are still millions who are left behind to face a very different future than they had wished for.

The Cafe and Bookstore New Book Promotions

If you are already in the Cafe and Bookstore please let me know if you have a new book coming out over the next few weeks either on pre-order or available on Amazon so that I can set up a new book promotion. I have a format for the post so only need a link for either Amazon US or UK and I will take care of the rest.

If you are not already in the cafe, please read the post at the following link to find out more about what I need from you: Smorgasbord Cafe and Bookstore – New Book on the Shelves 2021 – #Free book promotion

Over the next few weeks in addition to the book marketing podcasts, I will be sharing some pre-recorded posts from my time on The Main Ingredient radio show with Kelli Brett in Spain. They are based on my Turning Back the Clock book from 2005 which offers some anti-aging strategies. I thought you might enjoy the format as Kelli Brett is very entertaining and we had a love of fun with the shows.  Not all the series survived but I will record those again.

I hope you will join me in knocking off a few years and getting ready for the winter months. The first post goes out Monday.

I will also be recording the next series of book marketing and public relations for authors to share with you.

I was out and about this week with Annika Perry who did a lovely feature and review for Life is Like a Tapestry – Woven in Words…

Smorgasbord Blog Magazine – Weekly Round Up – June 27th – July 3rd – #Celebrations, #Music Al Green, PR for Authors, Health, Reviews, New Books and Funnies

Welcome to the round up of posts you might have missed this week on Smorgasbord.

I hope everyone is well despite the rising cases of Covid…our cases are on the increase here in Ireland too and not sure that is going to impact the lifting of restrictions in coming weeks. Not that we will be sunning ourselves on the beach for the next ten days.. but the grass is staying lovely and green this ‘summer’!

But today I would like to focus on the positive as one of our long term supporter of the blog and resident in the Cafe and Bookstore, Judith Barrow has been shortlisted for The Rhys Davies Fiction Award for The Memory.. a book that I can highly recommend – my review

This prestigious award is part of Wales Book of the Year People’s Choice Award 2021 and is dependent on public votes. It is very easy.. all you have to do is click on The Memory and your vote is counted.

Here is a screenshot of the listing of Judith’s book… and below is the link to the page where you will find the voting panel for the books… I hope you will head over to support this amazing author and friend to so many. Just wonderful to see Judith receive the recognition she deserves..

Here is the link for the rest of the article…please take just a minute of your time to head over to cast your vote – thanks Sally: Wales Book of The Year 2021 – Article and Voting panel

And I know many of you will be celebrating July 4th this weekend and I hope you have an amazing time and are able to meet up with friends and family
