Smorgasbord Blog Magazine – Weekly Round Up – Febuary 27th – March 5th 2023 – New Features, Quincy Jones, Big Band Era, Epistolary Writing, Rhubarb, Reviews, Health, Podcast and Funnies

Welcome to the round up of posts you might have missed in the last week here on Smorgasbord.

I hope that all has gone well for you during the week. It has been busy getting back into the swing of things since we got back and getting ready to get more pre-sale work done on the house.

This week I was honoured to be included in a post by Pete Springer along with John Howell, Marcia Meara, Marian Beaman and new author, David Mohrmann.

Peter explores the celebration of achievement but also the fact that you are never too old to begin your writing journey. He also highlights the envy that might tinge our lives from time to time as others around us seem to step ahead of us for one reason or another, but often it can be inspiring

Head over to read Pete’s post and share your thoughts: Pete Springer and Writers Envy

Coming up on the blog soon.

In the next few weeks I shall be starting the 2023 series of meet the authors. This series offers me the opportunity to not just share my personal recommendation for the author, but to also check for new books I might have missed, changes to biographies and profile photos and check links.

I also I hope will introduce you to previously unknown authors to you and their books. As the curator of a towering TBR like most of you, I hope it will also encourage you to move books waiting in line up the queue.

Just a reminder to all authors who have not updated their bios recently it is a good idea to double check they are up to date across Amazon and Goodreads and anywhere else you promote your books.

As always my thanks to my friends who contribute to the blog…

Smorgasbord Blog Magazine Weekly Round Up- 30th January – 5th February 2023 – Birthdays, Big Band, Food A-Z, Podcast, PR for Authors, Reviews, Bloggers and Funnies

Welcome to the round up of posts you might have missed this week on Smorgasbord.

I hope your week has gone well. January went very quickly and cannot believe we are in February already.

The three of us with my mother in 2000 on their first visit to our home in Madrid.

It is a busy month in our family, as we three sisters all have our birthdays. My brother slipped into March and was a bit of a surprise as my mother was 40. She was always a good sailor but on our trip home from two years Sri Lanka, which was extended because of the Suez Canal crisis, she felt unwell. She went to the doctor on arriving home to the village where we had our home and he diagosed dispepsia!  A month later she rang him and said dispepsia just kicked me.

I was four at the time and since my mother wanted a home birth I was packed off to Northampton with my aunt who travelled down to pick me up and take me back on a coach. I was a little brat and despite her best efforts and that of my cousin Roger then a teenager of 15, she had to return with me after only two days, as I was determined not to be left out of this massive event. My brother was born that night but I slept through it all, exhausted by my machinations!  I was allowed in to meet him first thing the next morning and I don’t think that was the first time my mother said to me ‘You little monkey!’ lol.

My brother and I  making a getaway…

Anyway here I am almost 70 and still getting up to mischief…

I was delighted to be the guest at Lisette Brodey’s Writer’s Chateau this week chatting about books, publishing, my amazing contributors and living in Ireland.. If you have not visited the interview then it would be great if you popped over. Lisette Brodey’s Writer’s Chateau Interview Sally Cronin

Smorgasbord Blog Magazine – Weekly Round Up – January 9th – 15th 2023 – Wind, Big Band Era, Podcast,The Brain, PR for Authors, New books, Reviews, Funnies

Welcome to the round up of posts from the week you might have missed on Smorgasbord.

Greetings from wild and windy Ireland, and considering around 23% of Ireland’s electricity comes from wind power, I should say this week they have more than enough to spare! Ice is coming in for the next two to three days and being rural the roads tend to stay frosty until enough traffic has passed over them. So I am off to do the shopping this morning and get it out of the way. I know there are many others knee deep in snow at the moment and we get off lightly, particularly here on the east coast so no complaints just an extra layer of thermals.

As always my thanks to my friends who contribute to the blog…

Smorgasbord Blog Magazine Weekly Round Up November 28th – December 4th 2022 – #Christmas Posts, Hits 1950s, Tony Bennett, Astral Projection, Podcast, Reviews, Christmas Book Fair, Humour

Welcome to the round up of posts you might have missed this week on Smorgasbord..

I hope that you have all had a good week… I know that some of you have had heavy falls of snow and whilst I am sure it looks beautiful I am sure it also brings its challenges. We are expecting a cold snap next week with a possibility of snow but it rarely comes to anything and if it does snow rarely stays more than a day or two. Let’s hope that is not ‘famous’ last words.

I have been busy finishing off the Christmas Book Fair and scheduling more Christmas Archive posts. There is some space after Christmas in the first couple of weeks of January if you have a post from that time period from previous years that you would like to share. Perhaps about New Year Resolutions… a short story, poem etc.  Send the link to sally.cronin@moyhill.com and I will take it from there.

I received my wrap up stats from Anchor this week where I record my podcast and it is streamed on 6 other platforms… I then upload the recording to Soundcloud which I then link to the blog. When the current poetry and flash fiction series is finished after Christmas I am going to adding a new feature to the Book Promotions. I will record the blurb’s for new books I add to the bookshelf along with the links to buy and the author’s website. I will use the book cover as the featured image and I hope that combined with the actual new book post it will reach a new audience.

As the soundcloud recording comes with an embed link the author can then use on their own blog if they wish to promote their book.

Welcome to the round up of posts you might have missed this week on Smorgasbord..

I hope your week has gone well. Nothing much to report here but I have managed to get a few hours in the garden as we experience some random Indian Summer moments. I have also made progress with my Elephant tapestry as my intention is to have it finished and framed ready by Christmas. My next book release, a combined poetry and short story collection is also getting closer to being ready for editing.

I have also been giving some thought to how the blog might evolve in the next year and some new features I would like to introduce. As you will see from this week there has been an emphasis on new releases and book reviews and I do want to carry that forward next year with additional opportunities for authors to promote their work.

Welcome to the round up of posts you might have missed during the week here on Smorgasbord.

I know this week has been very difficult for many of you living in the US and in the path of the hurricane weather. I do hope that you are safe and that you didn’t suffer any damage to your homes. You have been in our thoughts.

Nothing much to report on the home front as we carry on getting the small jobs in the house completed and get the garden ready for the autumn. We are keeping an eye on the house selling market and if necessary we may hold off until the spring. Once you get into November and Christmas (sorry to use that word so early) house sales do tail off. We are not in a rush and may well wait until spring when it picks up again. However, at least we will be ready should the opportunity present itself and we will keep an open mind.

Smorgasbord Blog Magazine Weekly Update – August 15th – 21st 2022 – Chart hits 2001, #Pavarotti, #Food, #Waterford 1940s, Podcast, Weight Loss, Stories, Reviews, Health and Humour

Welcome to the round up of posts you might have missed this week on Smorgasbord.

I hope the week going well so far for you. Nothing much to report on the home front as we continue to do our tidy up to sell.. it is the small fiddly jobs that seem to take the longest.

I continue with the online shopping for both location and properties that tick the boxes for what we hope is our last move. Whilst we are still hale and hearty, there may come a time in years ahead when we cannot drive and whilst we love being in a more rural environment, if there is no public transport close to hand it makes life a little more difficult. Also we are 40 minutes away from the nearest emergency department. Touch wood that has not been an issue and we do have a very good out of hours clinic. But I do think there would be some comfort in knowing you are not too far from emergency help should you need it.

Of course as the media is keen to point out in the UK, the wait for an ambulance in some areas is the issue not the distance. Being close to an ER certainly offers some options in many circumstances with taxis being one of them.

If you have to give up your car it is also good to have a decent size supermarket close by and again you can get taxis and to be honest with the cost of insurance, petrol, servicing and other car expenses you can get an awful lot of taxis in a year for a lot less.

Anyway, I have expanded our search to along the south coast of Ireland but we are not dismissing a return to the UK.

Stay tuned lol for the adventures to come.

As always my thanks to my friends who take time to share their expertise with us….

This week William Price King joined me for The Breakfast Show and shared the first in the classical music genre with the life and music of the great Pavarotti. William is returning from his summer break at the end of August and we are going to be busy preparing next year’s Breakfast Shows which will cover the Big Band Era. Music I grew up with and looking forward to sharing some more great music with you.

Welcome to the round up of posts you might have missed on Smorgasbord this week.

I hope those of you who were suffering from the heat wave and added risks of wildfires are now finding things much cooler. We are back to our seasonal temperatures and have had some welcome rain the last couple of days which is good news for the farmers. They have worked overtime in the last two weeks to get their fields mown and baled but they need a new growth now for stock for the rest of the summer.

The outside of the house is looking great with its new coat of grey and white paint with just the back of the house needing another coat.

I am spending August on some work related projects for the autumn.. a new short story collection, poetry collection and for early next year an updated and Ebook version of my family health manual Just Food For Health, which at 360 pages in the print version is going to take a bit of time.  I have stocked the blog and whilst not around quite as much on social media business will carry on as usual.
