Smorgasbord Cafe and Bookstore – Author Updates #Reviews – #Paranormal Marcia Meara, #Thriller J.P. McLean, #Romance Ruth Larrea

Welcome to the Friday edition of the Cafe and Bookstore updates with recent reviews for authors on the shelves.

The first author with recent reviews is Marcia Meara for Wake-Robin Ridge Book 4: The Light the latest in the Paranormal fantasy series.

About the book

The Magic is Back!

For Robert MacKenzie Cole—or Rabbit, as he’s known to all—the chance to accompany his family to see North Carolina’s infamous Brown Mountain Lights has him nearly dizzy with excitement. And what better night to watch this unexplained phenomenon unfold than Halloween?

But when the entrancing, unpredictable lights show up, Rabbit gets far more than he bargained for. He’s gifted with what folks in the Appalachians call “the Sight,” and it’s this extrasensory perception that enables him to spot the one light different from all the rest.

In his biggest challenge to date, Rabbit—aided by his daddy and his newest friend, Austin Dupree— begins a quest to learn more about the mysterious light. Their investigation unveils a web of cons and corruption none of them expected and exposes a brutal murder along the way.

Throughout all, Rabbit is unfaltering in his commitment to do whatever it takes to understand the truth behind the glowing orb and to determine how he can help it. After all, it followed him home.

One of the recent reviews for the book

At first I thought this story was very similar to the preceding one, however as events developed it proved to be a wonderful addition to the developing adventures of Rabbit and his family. Wonderful realism and believable characters. I live in central Florida and I love the NC mountains which adds some “sparkle” for me but her vivid descriptions of the setting for the stories will take anyone there!

Keep it up Marcia! I noticed many story lines for you to pick from in the future

The next review is for  book 6 of The Gift Legacy series.  J.P. McLean with Wings of Prey.

About the book

A dead man’s warning. A lost plane wreck. A buried truth.

A dire warning from beyond the grave leaves Emelynn Taylor questioning her loyalties. Did someone she loves commit an unforgivable act of treachery? In her quest for answers, Emelynn opens a painful cold case knowing its resolution could destroy two families.

What she finds tests Emelynn’s integrity as the leadership changes hands within the Tribunal Novem, the powerful body that rules her kind. When confronted with betrayal and lies, Emelynn must follow her moral compass, even if it means losing the man she loves and alienating her Flier friends.

And when the terrible truth is unearthed, Emelynn is set on a collision course with two titans and a battle she can’t possibly win.

The sixth book in The Gift Legacy series, Wings of Prey is a thriller that skirts the edges of reality in a world within our own. Hold on tight and escape the ordinary: take flight with Emelynn Taylor.

A recent review for the book

Like its predecessors, JP McLean weaves her imaginative magic in “Wings of Prey”—the 6th (and for now, last) book in “The Gift” series—and brings Emelynn full circle.

All the loose ends and lingering questions that have arisen during Emelynn’s journey through the first 5 books are now tied up and answered. Having said that, while McLean essentially closes the door on Emelynn’s journey to date, she also leaves an opening for new adventure.

Overall, I have thoroughly enjoyed this series for McLean’s incredible world building, attention to detail, astute characterisation, and deft writing. I could see this becoming a tv series, and I highly recommend to readers who are looking for a new fantasy series to sink their teeth into.

The next author with a recent review is Ruth Larrea for her book Fragments of a Dream: Is it too late for a second chance at love?

About the book

Is it too late for a second chance at love? Rosie doesn’t think so. When her marriage ends close to retirement, she plans to find Angelos, the charismatic young Athenian she fell for as a naive 19-year old. But will he remember her? Will he even want to see her after what happened between them?

There’s only one way to find out — go back to the Greek island of Hydra, in the hope that he still visits.

When at last he shows up, his reaction is not what she expected. He’s changed a lot, but so has she. As Rosie begins to understand him and his culture, she has to reassess her version of the past, confront her mistakes, and question her own values and choices.

A bittersweet story about relationships and cultural confusions that will make you laugh, cry and reflect on life’s complexities. Start reading today!
