Smorgasbord Blog Magazine – Weekly Round Up – 30th May – 5th June 2022 – Home Renovations, Hits 1996, Summer Book Fair, Shortstories, Reviews, Blogger Weekly, Health and Humour

Welcome to a round up of the posts you might have missed this week on Smorgasbord.

I hope you have enjoyed a good week… We have been busy with getting the new dining room up and running and our office established in the kitchen diner.. That is all done but my studio piece still needs some fine tuning and my podcast stories will be back again next week.. I thought you might like to see some before and after photos on the dining room which had to be stripped, ceilings and walls painted, floor sanded and varnished and new curtains.

There are some other jobs to get on with now upstairs and outside but we are getting there. We christened the new dining room with a visit of our niece over from England which was a lovely way to celebrate.

On the blog front

This week on the series by guests are Carol Taylor, Diana Peach and Sharon Marchisello and I am sure you will find them as fascinating as I did…

Smorgasbord Blog Magazine Weekly Round Up – February 7th – 13th 2022 – Computers, Interviews, Hits 1988, Mel Torme, Shortstories, Book Reviews, Health and Humour.

Welcome to the round up of posts you might have missed this week on Smorgasbord

I hope you have had a good week. The world stage has certainly been dramatic with political upheavals and threats which makes you wonder just how much progress we have made towards building a peaceful and productive future for all of us. Along with the misbehaviour of sports personalities and celebrities it is becoming increasingly difficult to find something positive to read.

Thank goodness for bloggers with their creative, informative and often entertaining approach to life and I am reminded on a daily basis that in fact there are billions of really good people in the world who should be the subject of the media’s attention, rather than the motley crew supposedly in charge of us all.

Yesterday I noticed that I was not able to access my photo index and I have learnt that when I seem to have even a small technical problem I tell David right away. Just as well I did as it turned out my hard disk was crashing. He spent the rest of the day moving computers around so I could use another. Thankfully we back up regularly so very little data lost but it could have been a great deal worse… so do back up your work regularly to an external drive, especially if you are half way through your next novel!

I have also been out and about this week virtually.

I was delighted this week to be the guest of author and podcaster Louise Ross to chat about my nomadic life of travel and adventures. Here is the link to the podcast with a transcript of the interview: Interview Sally Cronin Nomadic Life and Weight Loss

There are also other places to listen including on Youtube where you can subscribe to Louise’s channel and leave your comments. Louise Ross Interview Sally Cronin Youtube

As you will see later in the round up I have reviewed one of Louise’s books Women Who Walk which I can highly recommend.

As alway my thanks to William Price King for sharing his love of music with us, and Debby Gies for her wonderful funnies foraging.. Debby is back tomorrow with the Travel Column and a look at Puerto Vallarta where she is currently enjoying a winter sun break… and on Wednesday Carol Taylor will be with us with delicious recipes to ensure we are getting sufficient Vitamin B3.

In the meantime head over to enjoy Carol’s round up of the last week. CarolCooks2 weekly roundup… 6th February-12th February 2022-Monday Musings, Health, A-Z World Cuisine, Albania, Cardamom and Saturday Snippets.

Thank you too for joining us this week and for sharing and leaving your very welcome comments.

Smorgasbord Blog Magazine Round Up – December 26th – January 2nd 2022 – New Schedule, Starship, NY Party, Shortstories, Reviews, Bloggers and Funnies

Welcome to the round up of posts bridging the gap between 2021 and 2022…

Happy New Year and wishing us all a healthy, wealthy and love filled year whatever life and opportunistic pathogens throw at us.

We had a quiet Christmas and New Year with plenty of movies, good food and the occasional glass of cheer. As with most countries there has been an avalanche of cases here topping 23,000 yesterday, which for a country with only 5 million people.. is high. Thankfully the trend of deaths associated with Omicron is lower than previous variants and there is evidence from other countries such as South Africa that it comes in fast and furious and then burns itself out… Fingers crossed it is its last attempt to infect the world and we see a more positive outcome in 2022.

We have not made resolutions for many years but we have made plans. To redecorate the house and put in the market by the summer. Find a new home further down the south east coast of Ireland, possibly between Wexford and Waterford. And once moved it would be good to be able to travel a little before coming back to settle down with a new fur baby.

Flexibility and adaptability have to be built in to those plans, but that is something we are prepared for.  And there is also time allocated for me to finish some of my writing projects and read more books in 2022.

As always I have had help this week between Christmas and New Year by much appreciated friends and collaborators – William Price King, Debby Gies and Malcolm Allen.

In 2022 William and I will continue with The Breakfast Show on Tuesdays… and I am also sharing updated posts from William’s two series – Jazz Icons and Music Greats on Fridays over the year.

D.G. Kaye’s Travel Column Rewind begins tomorrow morning with updates on travel restrictions for all the countries featured, which are open for tourism.

Carol Taylor and I will reshare the posts Cook from Scratch to prevent Deficiency from this Wednesday.

The Health Column returns on Thursday with the series The Gentle Detox to get you into 2022 in good shape.

The new Smorgasbord Bookshelf kicks off with two new releases during the week and the new series of Meet the Authors begins on the 10th.

There will be afternoon videos, some funnies, short stories and a blogger daily.

I hope you will enjoy the new schedule and join us when you have the time. As always I am so appreciative of your support

Smorgasbord Cafe and Bookstore – Weekly Round Up – 31st January – 6th February 2021 – 1960s Music, Bloggers, Book Reviews, Hormones, Shortstories, Slowcooking and Funnies

Welcome to the round up of posts this week on Smorgasbord that you might have missed.

I hope everyone is doing well and not to badly impacted by the winter storms across America and Europe… we don’t tend to get snow very often in our part of the Irish coast but it looks like we may well get hit tomorrow and then a freeze next week. I took the precaution of doing the weekly shop today instead of Monday and went early. By the time I was leaving at 10.00 the built up as a lot of others had the same idea.

Virus numbers seem to be coming down although not early enough here at the moment. We shall see if the March 5th lifting of restrictions will take place.

In the meantime as one of the five million people still choosing to use the Classic Editor.. I was furious when they updated the programme two days ago which now means adding two steps instead of one to inserting images, short links, centering text, bolding text, adding colour, and italics. Thankfully there are a few keyboard shortcuts for some, but otherwise you now have to click an up arrow to the editing icons instead of them being visible whilst you format the post. Pain in the butt and another move in my opinion to drive us into using the block editor.. underhand.

Of course unless you are a paid subscriber to  WordPress you cannot access help in person. The irony is that if they could guarantee that I could retain the classic editor and keep the current format, I would be happy to pay them an annual subscription. I am sure that most of the other 5 million people still using the Classic Editor would probably be happy to do so.

The latest news from the forums is that they say, if the demand is still there after December 31st 2021, they will reconsider supporting it into 2022.

Whilst it might sound like I am an entrenched luddite, it is more down to the way I blog, which is several times a day. I appreciate that for many that is breaking the rules of blogging, but my vision was of a magazine style blog with varied topics and an effective book marketing platform. I am not going to throw the baby out with the bathwater, but if they keep mucking around with the functionality of the editor then I will be looking at making some changes.

I love doing this and it is frustrating when I can’t do it the way I want.   Which incidentally was their grand opening mission statement.. ‘Your blog, Your Way.’

Anyway.. enough of the rant.

Thanks very much for keeping me motivated by your visits and comments…  Also to the guests this week who are participating in the Breakfast Show specials and the Posts from the Archives.
