Lines by Leon: Poems, Prose, and Pictures by Leon Stevens is a great collection of work that touches on so many subjects. This isn’t the kind of book that I would usually read but I found myself really enjoying this one. It was easy to read and there genuinely seemed to be something for everyone in this. I liked how I could read this book in those few minutes that normally wouldn’t be long enough to read in – one of this collection was perfect for those snatches of time. I enjoyed this book much more than I expected and I will definitely check out more from this author in the future.

Meet Pamela Wight

Pamela Wight is a successful author of romantic suspense novels as well as two illustrated children’s book, BIRDS OF PARADISE and MOLLY FINDS HER PURR, enjoyed by readers ages 3 to 93.

Her first book, THE RIGHT WRONG MAN, got rave reviews for taking readers “on an exciting adventure with lots of intrigue, unexpected plot twists, and romance.” A year later, Wight published her second novel, TWIN DESIRES. “Lots of suspense, plot twists, romance, and excellent character development makes this a fun read!”

The gorgeously illustrated BIRDS OF PARADISE, finalist in the 2018 International Book Awards, has received many enthusiastic reviews: “This creative, compassionate story about birds will inspire children to notice the everyday adventures of backyard birds.”

Wight’s second picture book, MOLLY FINDS HER PURR, published Fall, 2019, follows Molly the Cat, who can’t find any friends. And almost worse, she can’t find her purr. After looking for friendship in all the wrong places, Molly learns that making friends is as easy as looking up in the trees and on the ground, where other lonely creatures are hiding in plain sight. Whether hard-shelled or soft as a bunny, everyone needs friendships that help them find their purr.

Pamela earned her Master’s in English from Drew University, continued with postgraduate work at UC Berkeley in publishing, and teaches creative writing classes in Boston and San Francisco.

She lives in the Boston area with her “right man” and hikes the New England trails while concocting her stories. Wight travels frequently to the San Francisco Bay area for additional inspiration. She speaks to book clubs, schools, and libraries in both locations.

“Flashes of Life” is a charming collection of real-life tales. Ms. Wight shares micro-stories that are broken into eight sections and come from all stages of her life. Each one is a quick read that touches on everyday life. I could relate to each story. I found myself shaking my head in agreement with some of these tales, and a couple had me laughing out loud. I appreciated the gratitude weaved in, and it left me pondering on my blessings. The well-crafted writing brought me into Ms. Wight’s world, and I felt like I was sitting next to her on the beach, talking about life. A fantastic glimpse into the world of a daughter, mother, wife, friend, and grandmother. I highly recommend reading about these “extraordinary ordinary” tales!

Meet Jane Buckley

Jane Buckley has been an avid reader all her life and if the opportunity had existed when she was younger would have loved to become a journalist. She began writing her first novel in 2017 but put the manuscript away in a drawer for a couple of years.
Jane used the lockdown period to finish the book – now ‘Stones Corner: Turmoil’ – and describes the writing experience as her ‘salvation’ during the pandemic.

Jane lives just outside Derry, Northern Ireland. She is married to John and has two daughters Cassie who lives in Oxford and Maggie who lives in Auckland NZ with grandchildren Charlie and Alba.

Jane has a wonderful way of writing, she gently guides the reader into the story and without realising when the transition happened you find yourself sitting alongside her characters or walking the streets of Derry city with them. Walking to the factory with the young Catholic Caitlín and her best friend, listening to them chat, I felt I was laughing with them. I cried too when on a much anticipated shopping trip one of young innocent girls were brutally injured by a bomb blast – an everyday occurrence.

The reality of life in Northern Ireland was brought home in the words of Jane Buckley as she led us through the Troubles of Derry City and the lives shattered by the conflict and war. How could we empathise with the handsome but privileged James, nephew of the factory owner – but yet, somehow, we do! We feel Caitlin’s youngful anticipation of first love through her dangerous liaison with the Scottish protestant James. We somehow understand how the youth can be cajoled or angered into uprise and violence. Above all we feel the joy and the utter heartbreak and devastation that the conflict has on all families and all of the individuals – no-one escapes unscathed.

A superbly constructed thriller, written in a style that is accessible to those of us who may never really understand what it is like to live in a war zone; the backdrop for their lives, it’s not extraordinary to them, it is, shockingly, their everyday lives. Stones Corner really makes this clear to the reader, despite the warzone, despite the bombings, the threat, the constant fear, these real people must live their lives.

This book transports us into the very shoes of the characters and allows us for a short time to walk in their shoes and hear their thoughts and feel their emotions.

A thriller with a lot of backbone and an enormous depth. It keeps the reader holding his breath to see what is going to happen next.

I loved it and I am so looking forward to the sequel. Thanks to Jane Buckley for Stones Corner. Read it!

One of the recent reviews for Ever Rest

The book works on so many levels for me. The storyline is strong and believable, and like others have stated, it seems so real. I have an acquaintance who’s partner never returned from a ski-ing holiday, and consequently, all the loss and confusion had added resonance.

The author clearly has a love of language, and uses words so cleverly; taking us back and forth through time and places. The relationships are intriguing. I cared about the characters, and wanted to know more about them – I wasn’t disappointed.

I rarely read books more than once, but with this one I intend to return and relax into it more; to soak up the spirit of the book, and to marvel at Ms Morris’ talent. I look forward to reading future books by her.
