Smorgasbord Posts from Your Archives – #Potluck #Astrology Born A Libra Under Venus (2018) – Valentina Cirasola- Interior Designer

This is the final post from author and designer, Valentina Cirasola who has three blogs all under the same roof to enjoy.Friday Fashion Blog   Home Designs Master Blog and The Good Life Blog. I have chosen this post because my mother was a Libra born on October 5th and I am sure several of you will have your birthdays in the coming month.

#Astrology Born A Libra Under Venus (2018) – Valentina Cirasola- Interior Designer

Planet Venus the lover and planet Uranium the visionary passed over me the instant I came out in the light and in this world. Ever since my life has been a colorful succession of events. Venus seduces me in every moment of the day with beauty and Uranium shows me the path. I was gifted with many talents that I have successfully blended into my profession, but the intention of my planets was to keep them hidden for my enjoyment, instead, I made a business from all them. The projection of how people see me is incredible, but they don’t realize, I must work twice as hard to be credible and be taken seriously.

A Libra like myself has powerful emotions and knows how to control them. Libra people are attracted intensely by people who share our same love of beauty, otherwise, we totally ignore them.

Being ruled by Venus, a Libra seeks peace, harmony, and balance, three keywords I use as the foundation to build a stylish home or a wardrobe.

The charge of a Libra is positive, that always reflects in the work I do. In fact, I think my home interiors seem happier, more colorful, less structured than others, but always harmoniously balanced. The characteristic of a Libra is to balance, unfortunately, aside from the preoccupation of having everything always perfect, we tend to put on the scale even people and situations, when they don’t meet our criterion, we let them off the scale.

Libra belongs to the element air, it is the sign of ethics, logic, and justice, prefers laws that work and that everybody respects, rather than living in a freestyle society, where rules don’t matter. That same ethics establishes the foundation of our life, we thrive on long-lasting relationships with friends and loved ones.

A few famous people were born on the day I was born as a Libra.
October 22, 1811 – Franz Liszt Composer
October 22, 1917 – Margot Fontaine Dancer
October 22, 1942 – Annette Funicello

The color of a Libra come from lapis lazuli, amethyst, clear quartz. The sun enters Libra on or around September 23, the day of the autumnal equinox. Even though the colors of Libra gravitate around a blue palette, there is a lot positive predisposition towards the warm colors of Autumn, especially orange and the yellow. The walls of my bedroom are a pretty blue ocean, the morning sunrays reverberating on the walls gives me a feeling of a big hug from the Universe and my day starts in a positive way.

This brief description will help you understand someone you might know in the Libra sign. If you give them a gift, remember their colors, if you live with a Libra person, also remember they like order. Keep in mind they are loyal people, when they get hurt, are very clever hiding their feelings. Ciao, Valentina – http://www.valentinadesigns.com

About the book

This book is a travel narrative of one trip To Puglia I organized with American friends and curious travelers willing to explore, learn, experience, taste and dream in a land they had never visited before and in a language totally foreign to them. A wheel of new emotions opened up before their eyes, they tried food didn’t even know existed, learned to cook in ancient kitchens; they learned to appreciate the nightlife, learned to live without phones, watches and technologies; copied Italian fashion, learned about traditions, rituals, country and folk celebrations; they all tried to learn local dialects and some succeeded well. Their perspective to life was forever changed.

I received this book as a gift. It’s a delightful collection of travel notes. The author’s sparkling personality is evident. The travelogue feels like warmly told tales. It truly is a treat. The author lets you experience the warmth, beauty, and “romance” of less famous parts of Italy, as via her descriptions and photographs, she takes you with her on the adventure she lived. Through this book you can visit an Italy you probably never knew existed. Ciao!

About Valentina Cirasola

I am Valentina, Italian born, my hometown is Bari the capital of Puglia region. I was born into a family of artists, designers and food connoisseurs. When I moved away from my family and started to cook for myself out of necessity, it was as if by miracle, all those years watching, eating and tasting translated into doing. I recalled the perfection how every dish was supposed to look and taste. Watching my family and eating good food every day, gave me the expertise of a professional chef. I had the first funny episode in my cooking life and the only one of this kind: once, I cooked spaghetti without adding water in the pot and of course it was as if I had started firecrackers in my kitchen.

Today, living in America, among many things, I spread lightheartedness and joy, while passing my notions of good life and good health through eating real food. Through public speaking and appearances, I educate and inspire people to eat real food and think of cooking not as a chore but a fun moment of the day. Pour yourself a glass of wine, put on your favorite music or TV program and start cooking with joy, then set your table in a harmonious way, sit down and enjoy the product of your cooking whether there is a family or not eating with you. You are important and your soul will rejoice if you pay attention to it.

I am a passionate cook, avid reader, speak four languages and I trot the world. I also take interest in cuisines of the world and I am especially interested in food in the history. These are all the pleasurable parts of my life that have prompted me to start writing books.

However, my main profession is in interior designing with a special focus upon Kitchens. What a better designer than the ones who cook! My passions are showing up in every aspect of my life. I have been in business as a certified interior designer since 1990, working in my company Valentina Interiors & Designs and have served a variegated group of fun people in Europe and in the United States. To remodel homes and to turn unattractive spaces into castles is the specialty of my business, but to design kitchens and wine grottos is my love, as you can imagine. Those are the rooms of a home that make people feel good.

One of the most fundamental areas in people’s lives is the HOME. Home is where people return to relax; a place that props anyone up in time of crisis. It is the center of everything and a lot of the answers to questions of life are there. In simple words, I love to harmonize people’s lives by finding their excellence, creating their energy with colors and adding beauty, while designing their palates as well. I care that everyone deserves to live in beauty and harmony.

Previous the interior design business, I was a fashion designer and owned my Atelier Valentina from where I created original one of a kind fashion. Now, so many years later, I have incorporated fashion in my interior design business and create powerful personal images for high rollers professionals and people who care to look good for themselves first in every moment of the day.

I have loved my professions for so long and never have given signs of wanting to quit. My books are the reflections of my passions. Welcome to my world. Benvenuti nel mio mondo.

Smorgasbord Posts from Your Archives – #Potluck – Yellow For Manifesting (2018) – Valentina Cirasola – Interior Designer

This is the third post from author and designer, Valentina Cirasola who has three blogs all under the same roof to enjoy.Friday Fashion Blog   Home Designs Master Blog and The Good Life Blog. I have chosen this post from the Home Designs Blog and as I have always painted by kitchens Yellow… I thought you might get some inspiration from Valentina from September 2018

Yellow For Manifesting – Valentina Cirasola – Interior Designer

September comes and I feel the end of the year is already here. With schools reopened, I am sure many feel the same way, thrown back in a hectic routing of preparing kids’ lunch, homework, taking them back and forth to game practices and school events. I don’t have kids, thus I am out of this kind of routine. I have clients who push to finish their work before the holiday start and that happens very soon with Halloween.

September reminds us that nature will go on hibernation soon, leaves will turn yellow and will fall to the ground lifeless. That’s the dark side of yellow, but we are not going to look at that for the moment. September is the month to manifest new ideas and new things we want to happen in the new year, in business or personal life.

Yellow is the color to focus on for manifesting. The sun wakes us up every day, fills our rooms with a bright light and illuminates most of our day. The sun acts like a battery charger and so does yellow. As long as we manifest our wants, needs and desire imagining a yellow light going through our body, surrounding ourselves with yellow flowers or objects, wearing yellow/gold clothes and eating yellow food, we will vibrate as if the sun is going through our body. It will take a few days, but we will see a clear picture in front of us and we will take actions to make things happening the way we want.

Then we will go to green, the heart chakra, because we will feel at peace that what we have manifested is taking shape with our actions.

Luckily, most of my walls are yellow, from dark to light and golden, I get naturally energized. However even I need a bit more yellow when manifesting. This week, I have worn ochre, sun yellow, light Chartreuse and golden, mixed with blues, brown, greys, bronze and white.

Yellow food has a large part in manifesting, it instills positivity. For me it is not difficult to do, I love food and I love to cook. This week, I picked up some yellow mini peppers and stuffed them open face or whole with various ingredients and then baked them. These are some of the ingredients I use often for a fun variety of the same recipe:

1. canned tuna, olives, capers, cherry tomatoes, bread crumbs, olive oil, salt & pepper.
2. ground meat, mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, spices, beaten egg, olive oil, salt & pepper.
3. rice, cherry tomatoes, any cheese you like, beaten eggs, olive oil, salt & pepper.

The list could on forever.

Mini peppers stuffed open face with saffron rice, spinach, beaten eggs, breadcrumbs, spices, olive oil, salt & pepper.

This is a salad of briefly boiled yellow beet with pomegranate, basil leaves, olive oil, salt & pepper. There is no better way to get energized with yellow food, but the healthy way.

Manifesting something you want to happen in your life happens in the center of the body, exactly in the stomach, where the gold chakra is located. You first think something in your mind, then it gets reworked or felt in the stomach, the gold is activated with your actions and the result will come. Ciao, Valentina http://www.valentinadesigns.com

Smorgasbord Posts from Your Archives – #Potluck – Artistry in #Fashion – Valentina Cirasola – Designer

This is the second post from author and designer, Valentina Cirasola who has three blogs all under the same roof to enjoy.Friday Fashion Blog   Home Designs Master Blog and The Good Life Blog. I have chosen this post as it shares the creativity of the young designers of tomorrow, some as young as 14 years old.

Artistry in #Fashion (2016)- Valentina Cirasola

Welcome to my Friday Fashion episode.

How do you motivate aspiring fashion designers to create originality? Give them a bag of mixed fabrics, tell them nothing of what’s in the bag and wait to see what they create. That is what I saw last weekend at the local Cañada Community College in the Fashion Department. Students created some interesting clothing with that mystery bag showing their knowledge in history of costume projected in new shapes of modern lines.

(Photos taken at Cañada Community College by Valentina Cirasola)

The highlight of the presentation was Angela Lan a 14-year-old girl who is already an author of her published book titled #OOTD Sew and Style (OOTD stands for Outfit Of The Day). She modeled for all the photos in her book and included six outfit patterns ready to copy. She wrote this book for the teenager population who wants to learn how to sew.

Sewing art is resurging again, just like most crafts and handicrafts. In a world of corporations, mass production and uniform look, it is a breath of fresh air to see youngsters taking interest in manual work.

I am hoping, they will find value in making unique clothes to spread originality and push them to become their own style and not the anonymous shades they are now in the sea of people who look just the same in all four corners of the world.

Next speaker was the owner of Britex the biggest fabric store in San Francisco founded in 1952 by her father who emigrated from Poland with the family. Sharman Spector presented her store as one of the few remaining family-owned businesses in the city, where every piece of fabric ordered goes through her personal scrutiny, tasted, evaluated and examined before going on the shelves. Her favorite country to shop for fabric is Italy, she said, I had no doubt about that. I am one big fan of Britex, there I can find fabrics from all over the world for fashion and interiors.
choker

At 7 Hands Design I found a choker to take home with me.

My pleasure at the end of the presentation was to visit local artists in their kiosks. Oh my, so much to buy……. everyone showed interesting pieces of their wearable art, really out of this world. I do admire artists who can work on metals and come up with something as soft as rose and it is still a metal.

The fashion field is so beautiful, rewarding, creative and so strongly competitive. Welcome new fresh minds, welcome to the world of expressing art through body and clothes. Ciao,

Smorgasbord Posts from Your Archives – #PotLuck #Italy Is There A Trick in Fennel And Wine? (2011) -Valentina Cirasola – Author and Designer

This is the first post from author and designer, Valentina Cirasola who has three blogs all under the same roof to enjoy.Friday Fashion Blog   Home Designs Master Blog and The Good Life Blog. I have chosen this post to start Valentina’s series as I found this ritual fascinating and will be trying the technique with our next bottle of cheap red plonk… plus I do like fennel to eat.

Is There A Trick in Fennel And Wine? (2011) -Valentina Cirasola

My grandfather was a landowner, he cultivated some of his land for vegetables and fruit and some as vineyard. He exported part of his wine production to France to blend with French wines; he sold the rest locally and kept some for his own consumption. There was a trick to his wine drinking, an ancient rituals that belonged to every seasoned man in Puglia before drinking a red wine.

I am not really sure who invented it, even though I call it my grandfather’s wine trick.
There were a few steps to follow for the trick to work well. First there was a selection of a perfect fennel stalk. The men blew a few times into the hole of the stalk to make sure there was enough suction through the hole. After that, with a knife, they filed down sharp edges of the fennel stalk to make it into a perfect straw device.

When everything was to their satisfaction, they set under the portico, at the rustic table with the clay jug of red wine always on the floor by their feet, ready to enjoy the hot Summer breeze and the tasty meal their women had prepared.

This ritual is still found in Puglia, where some wines are so strong they can be cut with a scissor. Putting a fennel stalk to soak in the wine jug will change the flavor of the wine, but if we just want to lighten the flavor of the wine and make it slightly sweet, we put a fennel stalk in the wine glass and drink out of the stalk as if it was a straw. The taste of the wine passing through the fennel stalk is so incredibly different and refreshing!

Of course, this practice is good for a house wine, or for a not very expensive wine, please don’t do this to a $500.00 wine.

After the perfect straw was made, the bulb and the green fronds were kept for cooking.

(Photo right found on: http://fitlife.tv/benefits-juicing-fennel)

Fennel belongs in the family of carrot, coriander, dill, parsley and celery, all falling under the Umbelliferous plants, which are those plants with a hollow stem and cluster of flowers coming out of the same stalk. Fennel bulb is a good source of water, good to eat while playing any sports under the sun. Excellent source of vitamin C as antioxidant and fiber to helps reduce high cholesterol and toxins from the colon. It also contains potassium, a precious mineral that helps lower high blood pressure.

As a versatile vegetable it is found in cooking of most countries in the Mediterranean basin mixed in salads or cooked with lamb or mussels. Fennel baked or grilled with cheese becomes a super pasta dishes or a delicious sandwich.

The green leaves are edible; they are very good with eggs, or egg frittata. However you like to cook a fennel, it will be a surprisingly good dish.

Fennel has been around since ancient Greece and Rome, revered for its medicinal and culinary properties. Greek mythology holds interesting beliefs and stories. The Gods at the Olympus brought knowledge to people in a fennel stalk. Good, I know that’s a myth, but perhaps all the healthy properties of the fennel have an impact on the health of the brain in retaining knowledge.

In the hot Pugliese summers every trick to cool the bodies down is a good trick! It always fascinated me to watch men going through the ritual of finding a good fennel stalk.

Now, the ritual continues with me. The guests at my table are always surprised and puzzled on why I do that, but they do enjoy the ritual and enjoy listening to the stories of my traditions, as far as liking the fennel, people who don’t come from Mediterranean basin have difficult time accepting its flavor. Ciao, Valentina
