Smorgasbord Blogger Spotlight – 21st July 2023 – #History Traci Kenworth, #Insectbites Beetley Pete, #Review Harmony Kent, #Orchids Robbie Cheadle, #Prehistoric #Yorkshire Judith Barrow, #JapaneseArt Rebecca Budd, #Goodpeople Jill Dennison

A small selection of posts I have read this week and I hope you will head over to read in full.. thanks Sally.

Traci Kenworth explores the lessons we should have learnt from history as we continue to divide and segregate those within society who groups of people have decided are unacceptable or less deserving. She also shares some great blogging links from around the writing community.

Although this is an older post by Beetley Pete Johnson, it is worth reading especially if you missed the first time around. This particularly interesting at this time of year as thousands flock to sunnier climes or even go walking in the Scottish Highlands at this time of year when the midges are rampant. I take B12 every day and have to say I did not connect with my sting and bite free summers (she says crossing her fingers)

A book review for a poetry collection Poetry for the Blind by Atmos…which sounds like an intriguing concept. The older I get the more I get frustrated with the directions governments, education, organisations etc are going… Reading Harmony Kent’s review made me believe this is right up my street.

Robbie Cheadle shares some stunning photos from her family’s recent stay at Lodge Afrique in Natal South Africa, including some stunning orchids. Next week some photos of the 1200 Nile Crocodiles and 800 Hippos populating the park and river estuary so bookmark her blog.

Join Robbie for this first post on her recent family trip: Lodge Afrique – Orchids

And another travel post, this time from Judith Barrow, and you might be forgiven in thinking it too was in Africa.. but no it is in the Yorkshire Dales… A cave was discovered in 1837 which proved to be a treasure trove of archaeological significance, including scavanged bones by hyenas such as hippo, rhino and elephants… and tools associated with early evidence of man from 11,000 years ago.. Definitely worth a read and enjoy the photos.

Rebecca Budd shares the background to the stunning artwork “Chrysanthemums” created by Utagawa Hiroshige born in the late 18th century and whose work had a profund influence on Western art movements.. stunning and intricate capturing of nature’s beauty.

And last but not least a post from Jill Dennison that not only reinforces that there are great people within communities doing amazing work, but that you can turn your life around and make a difference… The background to Tyrique Glasgow from Philadelphia.

  3. Terrific roundup, Sally. As someone who is constantly bit by mosquitoes, I had to check out Pete’s post. I do take B12 supplements but stopped B-Complex. Maybe I need to rethink that decision. Thanks for sharing!
