Before the big rock bands had their fans gathering in their thousands to show their adoration, The King.. Elvis Presley was faced with swooning girls at every turn. I was a little young to appreciate him in the first few years, but even I got a touch of the Elvis fever when I got into my teens.
The closest that I got to being near him was via a charming French actress who was in her early 60s when I met her at one of the Anthony Robbins seminars we attended as part of his Life Mastery course in 1996. Her name was Monique and she has appeared in one of Elvis Presley’s films in the late 1960s, she said he was actually very charming and a lovely man. So sad that he died at age 42, despite the rumours to the contrary.
I still have some Elvis on my playlists and he has helped me with the ironing on numerous occasions.
Here is Jail House Rock from the film of the same name, Elvis’s debut movie.. a good excuse to get up and take a break. Uploaded by Turner Classic Movies
The film…
Vince Everett is serving a one-year jail sentence for manslaughter. While in the big house, his cellmate, a former country singer, introduces him to the record business. Everett takes to it so well that he decides to become a singer when he gets out. However, he is quickly disillusioned by the record business. But with the help of a new friend, he decides to form his own label, and soon becomes an overnight sensation. But when he becomes a superstar, will his desire for fame and money cause him to forget the people who got him there? Written by <jgp3553@excite.com>

Of course I’ve seen this video before, but this time I was immediately struck by how similar the stylized choreography is to the fight scene in West Side Story.

Jerome Robbins (1918 – 1998)was the choreographer for West Side Story and Alex Romero for Jailhouse Rock, but they were from the same era.. I found this for Alex https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-2007-sep-18-me-romero18-story.html xx

Awe, Elvis. Our first heartthrob! My grandfather took my aunt and me to the drive-in theatre to see Love Me Tender. We cried and cried at the end. He was such a cutie. xo
