Your Hosts for The Breakfast Show

William Price King is an American jazz singer, crooner, and composer.

His interest in music began at an early age when he studied piano and clarinet in high school. At Morehouse College in Atlanta where he grew up, he sang in the Glee Club and studied classical music. After graduation he went off to the Yale School of Music where he earned a Masters degree. From there he journeyed to New York where he created a jazz trio ‘Au Naturel’ which performed in some of the hottest venues in Manhattan including gigs on Broadway and the famous ‘Rainbow Room.’ These gigs opened doors for performances in Montreal and a European tour.

While touring Europe he met a lovely French lady, Jeanne Maïstre, who, a year later became his wife. King left the group ‘Au Naturel’ and settled in the south of France where he started a new life on the French Riviera, opening his own music school – the “Price King Ecole Internationale de Chant.” He has had the pleasure over the years of seeing many of his students excel as singers on a professional level, and some going on to become national celebrities. He continues to coach young singers today, in his spare time.

  1. A fantastic selection. I’ll never forget Faith because I friend of mine had that tape stuck on her car, so every time we went out in her car we would listen to it. I still remember it word-perfect now. Thankfully, we both loved it. Thanks, William and Sally.

  3. Don’t Worry was such a huge hit and, like Pete, it became too much after a while. Time’s passed and I remember how much I loved it! Thanks to both of you. x

  4. It’s funny how you can hear a song years later and it has a whole new meaning. “Heaven is a Place on Earth” did that for me. Thanks, Sally and William, for all of these!

  5. I feel like I’m back in 1988! I remember all of these songs very well! I was a George Michael fan for sure, and I loved McFerrin’s “Don’t Worry, Be Happy,” though it was played on the radio constantly. And Guns and Roses had such a unique sound. Thanks for the listen, William and Sally. It made for an upbeat start to my day. 🙂

  6. Another Tuesday comes along and you certainly don’t dissapoint..
You definatley need a little Faith with George.
I loved them all and certainly remember them.
Today the one that stuck out was ‘Don’t worry be Happy’, I loved the fun video. I knew the song but didn’t really know who sang it. Loved the whistling along but …. I can’t whistle.
anyway today it is in my head and I will certainly try not to worry and hopefully be happy…
    Have a good day.
I’m whistling away already (in my head)

  7. Quite the vast assortment of styles today. Don’t Worry Be Happy was so overplayed at the time that it got on my nerves, even though I like the message. I remember Belinda Carlisle when she was with the Go-Go’s. They had some nice hits, but like many groups eventually split up and went their separate ways. I was never much of a Guns and Roses fan, but I sure like the opening riff of Sweet Child of Mine

    • Thank you, Pete. « Don’t Worry, Be Happy » certainly sent out a strong positive message, and indeed, it got lots of air-play. All the best and have a good week.

    • Thanks Pete.. I think even back then we all needed some positivity and Don’t Worry Be Happy is certainly an anthem for most decades including now. Tough to sustain a group as they usually form when very young and the individuals all develop differently.. some of course have stood the test of time such as the Rolling Stones, ZZ Top and Queen. Glad you enjoyed x
