Welcome to our show and we are excited to share decades of music with you in 2022.
Here is my second selection of top 1998 hits which I hope you will enjoy.
The boy is mine – Brandy and Monica
“The boy is mine” was inspired by Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney’s 1982 duet “The girl is mine.” It became the best-selling song of the year in the US, and spent 13 weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100. It was the second song in the history of the chart to ascend directly to #1 from a previous position beneath the Top 20, at #23, following The Beatles and the 27-1 leap of their single “Can’t buy me love” in April 1964. Internationally, the single peaked at #1 in Canada, the Netherlands, and New Zealand. “The Boy Is Mine” was awarded the Grammy Award for Best R&B Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group. It was nominated for two MTV Video Music Awards, including Video of the Year and Best R&B Video. At the Billboard Awards the song won in three categories, including Hot 100 Sales Single of Year. In 2008, Billboard listed it 54th on its 50th Anniversary All-Time Hot 100 Top Songs chart, and 18th on the All-Time Top R&B/Hip-Hop Songs countdown.
August 3rd Irish band Boyzone release their best-selling single “No Matter What” composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Jim Steinman
Cher – Believe
“Believe,” written by Brian Higgins, Stuart McLennen, Paul Barry, Steven Torch, Matthew Gray, Timothy Powell and Cher topped the charts around the world. It earned Cher a place in the “Guinness Book of World Records” as the oldest female solo artist to top the Billboard Hot 100 chart and became the highest-selling single by a solo female artist in the UK. It was nominated for the Grammy Award for Record of the Year and won Best Dance Recording. It was placed on the 2021 revised list of Rolling Stone’s “500 Greatest Songs of All Time.”
October 3rd Farm Aid 11 held in Tinley Park, Illinois; performers include Willie Nelson, Neil Young, John Mellencamp, Phish, Steve Earle, Wilco, and Del McCoury Band
Now time for my second picks from 1998 and I hope you will enjoy my selection.
Robbie Williams – Angels
“Angels” is a song by English singer-songwriter Robbie Williams. It was included on Williams’s debut solo album Life thru a Lens (1997), and released as a single on 1 December 1997 and into the charts into 1998. “Angels” was written by Williams and Guy Chambers, based on an earlier song written by Ray Heffernan. It is Williams’ best-selling single and was voted the best song of the previous 25 years at the 2005 Brit Awards. Robbie Williams
October 23rd Britney Spears releases her debut single “Baby One More Time”
Bryan Adams & Melanie C – When You’re Gone
“When You’re Gone” is a song by Canadian musician Bryan Adams, featuring English singer Melanie C, from Adams’ eighth studio album, On a Day Like Today (1998). The song was written by Eliot Kennedy and Adams, while produced by Adams and Bob Rock. It was released by A&M Records on November 30, 1998, as the second single from the album in addition to being Melanie C’s debut single outside the Spice Girls. The song peaked at number three on the UK Singles Chart and at number four on the Australian ARIA Singles Chart. Bryan Adams

William Price King is an American jazz singer, crooner, and composer.
His interest in music began at an early age when he studied piano and clarinet in high school. At Morehouse College in Atlanta where he grew up, he sang in the Glee Club and studied classical music. After graduation he went off to the Yale School of Music where he earned a Masters degree. From there he journeyed to New York where he created a jazz trio ‘Au Naturel’ which performed in some of the hottest venues in Manhattan including gigs on Broadway and the famous ‘Rainbow Room.’ These gigs opened doors for performances in Montreal and a European tour.
While touring Europe he met a lovely French lady, Jeanne Maïstre, who, a year later became his wife. King left the group ‘Au Naturel’ and settled in the south of France where he started a new life on the French Riviera, opening his own music school – the “Price King Ecole Internationale de Chant.” He has had the pleasure over the years of seeing many of his students excel as singers on a professional level, and some going on to become national celebrities. He continues to coach young singers today, in his spare time.

What a fun journey back in time. I especially loved, The Boy is Mine, which took a totally different spin from Michael Jackson’s version. And of course good old Canadian Bryan Adams, who my younger brother looked so much like then, he used to get stopped in public asking for autographs. LOL ❤

Absolutely love Cher and this track. Recall being in a recording studio when we first heard it and everyone sat figuring out what they’d put her voice through, of course, afterward everyone was using the FX on vocals. Gret songwriting too, everything a good pop song should be. She is a star, a diva, and a really nice person whom I used to sit next to at the hairdressers in Beverley Hills. We shared the same stylist. Brandy and Monica again, a great song and one which followed us around America when we were doing radio station PAs. Always on the radio just before us or just after. Cannot stand pub singer, Robbie Williams so will keep my opinion to myself as you would have to bleep it out. LOL. Another fab collection William and Sally. Thanks so much xx

Another tuneful Tuesday line up.
It took a while to fall in love with Robbie’s Angels but certainly one I grew to love.
My daughter was a real Spice Girls fan and it was good to see Mel C move on, I enjoyed this one. a good pairing of Bryan and Mel.
As to Cher… she just never ceases to amaze you. What a lady.
Thank you for Tuneful Tuesday.

Thanks Sue and I am with you on Cher.. all the feedback she has received over the years including for her love of plastic surgery must have been hard, but she is still amazing whilst many have fallen by the wayside. ♥

Yes, she has certainly come under fire for her plastic surgery, but she looks fab…
and it was a good song.
she certainly showed a few doubters that she still had it

Big Bryan Adams guy here. This one didn’t do as well commercially as some of his other big hits, but it’s a good one. My second favorite one was the Brandy and Monica tune.

I remember that “Believe” was mocked in some quarters–but it sure was catchy.

Indeed, Liz. The press gave Cher a hard time, but she was an incredible artist and proved it. Thanks. Hugs
