Smorgasbord Bookshelf – New Book on the Shelves – #Comingofage #Fantasy – The Evil You Choose: Dreamer’s Alliance – Book 2 by Dan Antion

Delighted to share the news of the latest release by Dan Antion to the bookshelf with The Evil You Choose: Dreamer’s Alliance – Book 2

About the book

Zach Amstead has kept his ability to participate in lucid dreams a secret for over fifty years However, in the high-tech world of the 21st century, he has been discovered by an FBI Special Agent who has a corrupt agenda and who is willing to employ illegal tactics while working toward his goal.

Thomas Slocum gives Zach a choice – cooperate in an illegal operation or be treated as a terrorist. Slocum’s plan puts Zach on a collision course with organized crime leaders, a corrupt politician and brings innocent people into dangerous situations. Worse, the FBI process which allowed Slocum to uncover Zach’s abilities threatens to expose the abilities of his best friend, Billy.

One of the early reviews for the book

Parsons Family 5.0 out of 5 stars Page turning  Reviewed in the United States on September 1, 2022

Sometimes you have to choose between various forms of evil along that spectrum.” How do you keep your hands clean when forced to work with a low life FBI agent who doesn’t care about collateral damage? With a talent for lucid dreaming, Zach is between a rock and a hard pace. Forced into an untenable situation, he does his best to juggle dicey scenarios, maintain his morality, and keep those he cares about safe. The second book in the Dreamer’s Alliance series, The Evil You Choose picks up where Knuckleheads left off. while the first book is more of a prologue introducing the characters and setting the foundation for the second (not to mention, being a delightful coming of age story with a twist), the second book is more along the cloak and dagger style with the hero (an ordinary retiree) caught up in situations not of his choosing.

The Evil You Choose walks a fine line between heroes and scum, while showing that not everyone (or everything is good or bad). Zach and Billy manage to keep ahead of the mixed bag of agendas from both good and bad guys, but the mounting body count picks at Zach’s sense of right and wrong.

This is a page turner and while there is some adult language, for the most part there is a reason it’s there. The balance between the hero’s church upbringing and the constantly changing ethical issues the hero is faced with is also a nice touch and artfully done. I’m looking forward to the next story!

I mentioned this post in my post yesterday, but not until later in the day. If you haven’t seen this, it’s a nice write-up of “The Evil You Choose” by Sally Cronin and includes a review that makes me very happy. Thanks so much to Sally for her support!

  5. I believe I read somewhere that Dan wrote his trilogy before releasing his first one.(I know it’s coming up soon on my Kindle.) Congrats on The Evil You Choose.

    • Hi Pete. You read correctly. Several people suggested writing all three books before releasing any because I might want to make changes. That proved to be very good advice, especially since, when I wrote the first book, I didn’t know there would be a third. The third book will be released in late November, and then things will cool off on my Amazon page until mid-2023. I hope you like the books you decide to read. I appreciate your taking the time to comment here, and I really appreciate Sally’s help in promoting these books. Have a great week!
