Some more poetry and flash fiction from one of my collections.
Seasons
the seasons of life
as in nature are defined
from cradle to grave
each marks the passage of time
to the place we are today.
In the spring of my life I was hopeful and eager. In the summer sun I blossomed and thrived. The autumn still offers bright days, but they are tinged with chill winds created by the evil humans can do. I am wary of what winter will bring. It threatens to dilute the hope I still cherish.
I question myself
can I still find the desire
the words and the will
to foster warmth in the hearts
of those who ride icy winds
Murmuration
Electricity pulsates through the air and sky. Watchers stand in awe beneath an aerial display that is a miracle of nature. Undulating through intricate manoeuvres, thousands of starlings perform a ritual only they truly understand. Is it to avoid predators, keep warm or simply the joy in their freedom to fly together in such harmony? We can only guess as we are privileged to spectate.
avian ballet
backlit by the setting sun
a murmuration
iridescence in motion
defies laws of gravity.

One of the recent reviews for my latest collection.
Another lovely collection of poems and stories from this gifted writer…I love Cronin’s writing, as she has a natural gift for storytelling. Her latest collection is lovely and a joy to read. Expeditions, Rejection, and The Colour of Life poems all spoke to me, especially Bear Witness which highlights a current plight society faces. It is hard to highlight any of the stories, as they all spoke to my heart, but if I had to choose Miss Lloyd’s Robin and On The Run are lovely. The Secret brought tears. There is much laughter and beautiful observations nestled within the pages and I want to read them all again.
Thank you for listening and if you would like to know more about my books and their reviews you can find them on my books page My books and reviews 2023

I remembered these and this time I heard the words.
Murmurations certainly reminded me of a visit to Rome with my children and seeing this in action.
I’ve seen it before but in real time and space it is truely magical.
Loved the thoughtfulness of the seasons.
I did enjoy all ot the pieces in ‘Variety is the Spice of Life’, it truly is, and its nice to hear your voice reading them Sally.
Thank you.

Two beautiful poems, Sally. If only humankind could focus on the beauty and wonder of starlings, instead of power and greed. Sometimes it’s hard to keep hope alive.

Thanks Diana and the headlines certainly do not encourage hope, in fact most try to suck it right out of you. Still there are better things to read online and thank goodness for the writing community.. ♥

The headlines here are pretty miserable. It seems important these days to seek out the goodness in people wherever we can find it.

Fabulous, Sally, two amazing pieces. The first is very relatable to me. I have lost my will to teach or give to certain people who are so focused on the ‘I’ my time and effort is wasted and always will be. Hugs.

What an amazing display by the flock of birds. Lovely poem about the seasons. We’re moving into Autumn here in Australia, still have warm days but the mornings and evenings are getting cooler. xx
