Smorgasbord Music Column – My favourite songs from the Movies – Barbra Streisand – Evergreen (Love Theme from A Star Is Born)

For the next few weeks I am going to be sharing my favourite songs from the movies. They bring back memories of the movies I have watched over the years and also remind me of people in my life, some of whom have passed on through.

I recently watched the remake of A Star is Born with Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga and enjoyed very much. But I still think the original film has the edge.

A Star is Born (1976) with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson was not the first outing for this story of an established music star who takes a talented young singer under his wing. The first was 1937 with Janet Gaynor and Frederic March, followed in 1954 by the remake with Judy Garland and James Mason, which I have also seen.

I was in my early 20s when I went to see the 1976 version and immediately fell in love with this track. It was composed and performed by Barbra Streisand with lyrics by Paul Williams, and arranged by Ian Freebairn-Smith

Over the years and in various Karaoke dives, I have done my best to recreate it….but you cannot beat the incomparable Barbra Streisand. It holds a special place in my heart for so many reasons, and it is certainly Evergreen.  Uploaded by mirrorro77
