Smorgasbord Blog Magazine – Weekly Round Up – 28th August – 3rd September 2023 – Big Band, U2, Mercury, Green Kitchen, Podcast, Book Reviews, Bloggers, Health and Humour

Welcome to the round up of posts you might have missed this week on Smorgasbord.

I hope you have had a good week and have not been impacted by the storms in North America and other weather events. We had a good amount of rain but the last two days and today are bright and sunny and definitely time to get some garden jobs out of the way.

On the blog front this series has proved very popular which I am delighted about… it does mean that I am scheduling for end of October and early November. I have decided to extend the series so if you have been promoted here on Smorgasbord before, then please send an excerpt of 500 words (there is some leeway of course) to sally.cronin@moyhill.com.  Having been here before I will have all your other details and I always check for new bios etc when scheduling.

I have left some spaces for other promotions and it would be great if you would keep me updated on any new releases you have either on pre-order or available on Amazon.  This does not only apply to authors who have been previously promoted but to new authors too.

If you have not been promoted here before then I will need the Amazon link and I share both US and UK links. Goodreads, blog or website and social media. Please send the full URLs as I shorten them when I put the post together having checked them first. Please make sure your bio is current on Amazon and Goodreads and that you have a good quality profile photo. The only thing I ask of authors is that they respond to the comments individually when the promotion is posted and share on their own social media…otherwise it is free publicity and just takes a few minutes of your time. Please note that I don’t accept review copies as I prefer to buy the books I recommend and support authors in that way sally.cronin@moyhill.com

Always such a lovely reminder of why we write when readers take the time to share their feedback…My thanks to Yvette Calleiro who has written a lovely review for LIfe is Like a Mosaic… it gave me a boost to end the week.

Please head over to read Yvette’s review. Yvette’s review for Life is Like a Mosaic

And my thanks to Patty Fletcher who posted her review for Variety is the Spice of Life to FB..very touching feedback. Patty Fletcher Facebook

Smorgasbord Blog Magazine – Weekly Round Up – 7th – 13th August 2023 – Clearout, Big Band Era, Spirit Guides, Green Kitchen, Personal Power, Podcast, Book Reviews, Health and Humour

Welcome to the round up of posts you might have missed this week on Smorgasbord.

I hope that the week has treated you well.. Nothing much to report on the home front. I have been packing up boxes to go to the charity shop this week of china, glassware, clothing, bed linen etc. We found ourselves with a number of dinner services accumulated over the last 43 years along with tea sets etc and having kept our two favourites, time to move them along to somebody who might use them instead of them being in a cupboard for years at a time.

Also I still have clothes that are better suited to a business environment and whilst they never go out of fashion my need for them is long over. Plus some overcoats that have been in the wardrobe for years and hopefully will be enjoyed by others.

I am very aware that we have no-one to pass these things along to and whilst I intend to be around for a very long time I don’t like waste of any kind and both the china and clothes need to be put to the use they were intended.

As always my thanks to my friends who contribute to the blog…

Smorgasbord Blog Magazine Weekly Round Up – 17th – 23rd July 2023 – Wild Gardens, Big Band Era, Opera, Vibes, Green Kitchen, Podcast, Book Reviews, Summer Book Fair, Bloggers, Health and Humour

Welcome to the round up of posts you might have missed this week on Smorgasbord.

I hope your week has gone well we seem to have fallen foul of the curse of St. Swithin’s on July 15th when it poured all day and it has rained everyday since. Looking at the forecast for the next ten days that trend will continue in varying degrees with brief gaps… since if it rains on St. Swithin’s it will do so for 40 days… that means it will be 21st if August before summer returns… I will keep you updated.

However, in the garden everything is blooming, including the ‘wilded’ areas that David sowed with packets of a variety of wild flower seeds in the spring. Mainly in the back garden, and as I work or sit out there it is clear that the insects, including some wonderfully noisy bumble bees have been enjoying these small areas of natural planting. We also have a patch in the front outside our office window, which even on rainy days adds some colour.

The hydrangeas have also now come into full bloom and year after year they never disappoint… this year I have left the so called weeds that have also taken root in the pots as to be honest they have lovely flowers and attract the insects as much as the Hydrangeas do.

As always my thanks to my friends who contribute to the blog and where you can connect with them.

Smorgasbord Blog Magazine – Weekly Round Up – 29th May – June 4th 2023 – Big Band Era, Personal Power, ABBA, Podcast, Book Reviews, Health and Humour

Welcome to the round up of posts you might have missed this week on Smorgasbord.

I hope your week has gone well. There has been glorious sunshine here and knowing how unpredicable our summers can be, we have been making the most of it. The fledgling starlings having stuffed themselves at the Birdseed Cafe and Spa, are now disappearing for most of the day, just popping in for a bath and a drink. With nearly 10 days without rain there is little standing water around and so our two baths have to be filled at least three times a day to keep up with demand. When I sit outside they ignore me and it is quite the sight watching their antics.

I have a very special lunch on Friday which I will tell you about next week… delighted to be meeting up in person with a talented children’s author and friend to many of us in the writing community.

As always my thanks to my friends who contribute to the blog…

Smorgasbord Blog Magazine Weekly Round Up – May 15th – 21st 2023 – Twitter, Starlings, The Jive, Diana Krall, Soul Mates, Zabaglione, Personal Power,Book Reviews, Health and Humour

Welcome to the round up of posts you may have missed this week on Smorgasbord.

Glad to report that the final small bits to the kitchen and the new counter top in the utility room are complete and we are back to normal which is great. I went shopping yesterday morning and when leaving the store I knew immediately that something was wrong.. I sounded like I was competing in a drag race with a revved up engine… and clearly my exhaust had cracked.. Thankfully our usual garage can take it on Monday morning… just when you think you have finished spending….. still it could be worse.

The baby starlings have fledged. They have been making a bit of a racket for the last couple of weeks in the hedges surrounding the house but on Wednesday they took flight and joined their parents at the Birdseed Cafe and Spa. They have learnt very quickly that the water bath is a fun way to play while waiting for mum or dad to fetch a dried mealy worm or seed from the buffet and the noise is horrendous, but satisfying to see such a wonderfully healthy crop of youngsters. Makes the feeding everyday, especially during the winter months worth it..Here is Mum on guard whilst two babies try out the swimming pool.

Just a note to remind those of you who have twitter accounts and whose posts were automatically uploaded there too. That option is no longer available which means that you have to manually link your posts to Twitter by using the sharing link. And readers can do likewise. Apparently to compensate they are bringing in an automatic instagram link which is great for those who are members and share a lot of photos.

I have been out and about again this week with crime writer Sue Coletta, who shares one of the stories from Variety is the Spice of Life… The Neighbourhood Watch a story of revenge with a bit of a twist at the end…

Please head over to enjoy on Sue’s blog:Short Story – The Neighbourhood Watch by Sally Cronin

Author Allan Hudson very kindly interviewed me back in 2017 along with an excerpt from Just An Odd Job Girl… this week he reshared the post and it was lovely to revisit his questions and the comments.

Smorgasbord Blog Magazine – Weekly Round Up – November 7th – 13th 2022 – Remembrance,1940s hits, Tony Bennett, Foods ‘K’, Far East 1946, Podcast, Book Reviews, Health and Humour

Welcome to the round up of posts you might have missed this week on Smorgasbord.

I hope you have had a great week. I know that some of you in Florida and adjacent states have been in the path of the latest hurricane and that caused extensive damage along the coast. Hopefully you have not suffered too much damage and that there is some respite from the weather fronts. We have had extremely high winds and torrential rain this week but we are lucky to only get the tail ends of the big storms across the Atlantic here on the East Coast, whilst those in the West of Ireland get the brunt of them.

The annual remembrance services have been held this week in the UK on November 11th and today with Rembembrance Sunday. Around the world veterans and those who did not return are remembered at different times of the year. My post this year is a tribute to an extraordinary marine who I was honoured to interview a few years ago. His story and those of the many thousands of wounded servicemen and women is one that needs to be told and thankfully there are some amazing charities who support them as they face the challenges of returning home with life changing injuries of the body and mind.

Smorgasbord Weekly Round Up – October 31st – November 6th 2022 – Hits 1940s, Tony Bennett, Spiritual Awareness, Poetry, Podcast, Book Reviews, Health and Humour

Welcome to the round up of posts from the week that you might have missed on Smorgasbord.

I hope you have had a good week so far although I do find it hard to believe we are in November already. I don’t know where this year has gone but it seems to have flown by. Still I guess it is true, time flies when you are having fun!

We have had three heavy storms come across us in the last week and on one day 90 mph gusts. No major damage but we did lose our metal birdseed tree which was a favourite with the garden visitors as it snapped in two as it feel on to the patio. Thankfully the bird feed pyramid that David built on the stump of an old tree survived and at least our resident birds managed to get some food in the gaps in the weather. In a complete contrast there will be a couple of days in this next week with warm temperatures and sunshine.

My next book is finished and is now going to be polished and my tapestry is completed and will go to be stretched and framed. I have been enjoy my two hours every afternoon getting back into the needlework groove so I have ordered a new piece which should arrive this week. It is a big canvas and will keep me busy for a few months.

Smorgasbord Blog Magazine – Weekly Round Up 24th -30th October 2022 – Tapestry, WIP, 1940s Hits, Kiri Te Kanawa, Food ‘J’, HMS Beverley, Poetry, Book Reviews, Health and Humour

Welcome to the round up of posts you might have missed this week on Smorgasbord.

I hope you are well and have had a good week. We have been catching up on the dry month of September and first two week’s of October with inches of rain and high winds. I have a feeling Halloween will be a bit of a washout and not much fun ‘trick or treating’. To be honest we don’t get much out where we are as it is quite sparce on houses, but it was a great excuse usually to get a tub of Quality Street in just in case!  I have avoided the temptation this year and of course the door bell will chime to prove me wrong.

I hope that if you are celebrating Halloween you have a great time and get more treats than tricks.

I am in the last stages of my current tapestry and my WIP. Both of which now undergoing line by line editing. For the tapestry this involves finding the odd stitch that has been missed, which is easy to do, the back of the canvas then needs tidying with loose threads being snipped back and then a steam pressing to make sure completely flat before going to the framers. I will take a photo when it returns. I have another half finished canvas of a large bowl of cherries which is next and I must say I am enjoying getting back to the stitching.

My WIP a combined poetry and short story collection should be available by the end of November and more news on that nearer the time.

Smorgasbord Blog Magazine – Weekly Round Up – 17th – 23rd October 2022 – Hits 1940, Kiri Te Kanawa, Angels, WWII Royal Navy and Treasure, Poetry, Podcast, Book Reviews, Health and Humour

Welcome to the round up of post you might have missed this week on Smorgasbord.

I hope you have all had a good week…It has been a wild few days here with a long winded thunder storm that raged for several hours followed by torrential rain and high winds. October making its presence felt. Hopefully it will settle down this week and we might get a little sunshine. It would be good if this also applied to the turmoil currently going on around us.

On the home front… we have decided to replace the doors in the kitchen to update and because after the redecoration of the rest of the house, it has made the current doors look shabby. With out decision to put the house on the market next spring we might as well make good use of the time to make the house as appealing as possible.
