Smorgasbord Blog Magazine – Weekly Round Up – 11th – 17th December 2023 – Meeting Santa…again, Hits of the 60s, Carla Bley, William Price King, D.G. Kaye, Carol Taylor, Reviews, Christmas Book Fair, Twelve Days of Christmas

Welcome to the round up of posts from this week on Smorgasbord you might have missed and with only two round ups to go before the big day… time to get a little festive..

Hope you are all doing well and are getting your holiday plans sorted out especially if you are travelling to see family and friends.

We will be having a quiet Christmas but decided to get out earlier in the week for lunch before it gets really busy. There is a great burger place in the nearby town of Arklow called Eddie Rockets and they have branches in most major cities. So if you are visiting Ireland and fancy a burger keep an eye open for them. Anyway as we walked through the shopping centre we came across himself doing his Christmas shopping so I persuaded him to have his photo taken with me…

This is the second time in the month I have bumped into him and I am beginning to think he might have a crush…lol…

As always my thanks to my friends who contribute to the blog…

Smorgasbord Blog Magazine Weekly Round Up – 4th – 10th December 2023 – Hits of the 1960s, Sidney Bechet, Short Stories, Book Reviews, Christmas Book Fair, Funnies and Videos

Welcome to the round up of posts you might have missed this week on Smorgasbord.

Another Sunday has rolled around at the speed of light or so it seems… It feels like only yesterday I was thinking it was 6 weeks to Christms and now it is only two. I dashed off my Christmas cards to my family in the UK as I know that despite my ability to be there in three hours on the ferry, post can sometimes take a week or even ten days!!  No wonder more and more people are sending electronic cards… as I will to the rest of my friends and relatives around the world.

It is currently pouring with rain and I am thankful it is not snow as I know some of you are having to shovel your way out of your driveways. We haven’t had a decent fall of snow worthy of mention for about 6 years. I will admit to rather wishing for a white Christmas as it does add that extra special element but I also know it causes chaos and travel problems, especially for those heading of to spend the holidays with family.

I was out and about again this week when Robbie Cheadle very kindly featured Sam, A Shaggy Dog Story along with her review. I love it that the old boy still has his moment in the spotlight… thank you Robbie ♥

Smorgasbord Blog Magazine – Weekly Round Up 20th – 26th November 2023 – Santa Wishes, New for 2024, Hits 1960s, Short Stories, Christmas Book Fair, Reviews, Health and Funnies

Welcome to the round up of posts this week you might have missed on Smorgasbord.

My outing this week was in the flesh to have lunch at a lovely hotel up the coast from us. The Arklow Bay Hotel… with David and my brother-in-law and his wife. Great fun as always and a lovely meal. My first roast turkey dinner of the season followed by apple pie, custard and whipped cream. The hotel was already decked out in festive finery and they had a full size Santa in the corner by the stairs, and who could resist his welcoming smile…

I feel I have been a reasonably good girl this year, so felt it was appropriate to let him know what I would like for Christmas…give him his due, his smile never faltered as he tried to compute the cost of a tropical island with a luxury villa, fully kitted out and stocked with food, medical supplies and high-speed  broadband and a helicopter for weekly shopping and emergencies.

If you don’t see me in the New Year you will know he pulled it off… go Santa.

And some news for 2024…

My aim is to still provide a platform to promote your books in various ways, and also to bring you new series of of the regular features.

One of these will begin on January 5th and will feature William Price King’s selection of ‘Duets’ from the 1960s onwards. Artists collaborating with others to create amazing music that became hits and are still enjoyed today.

As always my thanks to my friends who contribute to the blog…

A fun romp with an aging band, with a twist of detective story. Head over toD.G. Kaye

Carol Taylor will be here with her next Green Kitchen on Wednesday 29th November. Smorgasbord Weekly Round Up – December 5th – 11th 2022 – Bird Cafe and Spa, Munster Express, Hits 1950s, Tony Bennett, Culinary A-Z, Christmas Book Fair, Book Reviews, Flash Fiction, Funnies

Welcome to the round up of posts you might have missed on Smorgasbord this week.

I hope that the week has treated you well. It is very cold and frosty here and we have been sticking close to home. No snow but the roads have been pretty treacherous. The birds are very hungry and also with all free standing water frozen everywhere they are making good use of the warm water I fill up their bath with a couple of times a day.

The Sally Bird Cafe and Spa is doing a roaring business with an all you can eat buffet of mixed seed, suet blocks, fat balls, meal worms, sunflower hearts, soaked sultanas, peanuts and cooked wholegrain rice. Charlie the crow that we rescued and rehabilitated last year does not go far from the garden and I suspect he shacks up with the starlings at night for company. He is there on the roof first thing in the morning giving me it in the ear if I am late. He still cannot open his beak very far so the cooked brown rice,a soft crumbly fat ball and a soft slice of brown bread with peanut butter is his idea of luxury.

Are they spoilt… absolutely they are more entertaining than Netflix and they sing to me every morning to start the day.

First my thanks to Mary Crowley who is not only an excellent author whose books I have enjoyed, but who is also a columnist for the The Munster Express a well known South East Ireland newspaper. Mary supports Irish authors and reviews books that she features too. She has always been very supportive of my new books when they are published as she has been for the latest.

If you are looking for more books to topple your TBR (they can take it) Marjorie Mallon has done an amazing montage of books she has reviewed this year and honoured to be included amongst friends and new authors I have yet to discover.

Just some of the excellent authors included D.G. Kaye, D. Wallace Peach, D.L. Finn, Richard Dee, Robbie Cheadle, Colleen Chesebro, Darlene Foster, Adele Marie Park, Jina S. Bazzar, Ritu Bhathal, Helen Pryke, Sarah Northwood, Michelle E. Northwood, S.C. Skillman and Lizzie Chantree.  I hope you will head over to read the recommendations and dive into the pile…

Smorgasbord Blog Magazine Weekly Round Up November 28th – December 4th 2022 – #Christmas Posts, Hits 1950s, Tony Bennett, Astral Projection, Podcast, Reviews, Christmas Book Fair, Humour

Welcome to the round up of posts you might have missed this week on Smorgasbord..

I hope that you have all had a good week… I know that some of you have had heavy falls of snow and whilst I am sure it looks beautiful I am sure it also brings its challenges. We are expecting a cold snap next week with a possibility of snow but it rarely comes to anything and if it does snow rarely stays more than a day or two. Let’s hope that is not ‘famous’ last words.

I have been busy finishing off the Christmas Book Fair and scheduling more Christmas Archive posts. There is some space after Christmas in the first couple of weeks of January if you have a post from that time period from previous years that you would like to share. Perhaps about New Year Resolutions… a short story, poem etc.  Send the link to sally.cronin@moyhill.com and I will take it from there.

I received my wrap up stats from Anchor this week where I record my podcast and it is streamed on 6 other platforms… I then upload the recording to Soundcloud which I then link to the blog. When the current poetry and flash fiction series is finished after Christmas I am going to adding a new feature to the Book Promotions. I will record the blurb’s for new books I add to the bookshelf along with the links to buy and the author’s website. I will use the book cover as the featured image and I hope that combined with the actual new book post it will reach a new audience.

As the soundcloud recording comes with an embed link the author can then use on their own blog if they wish to promote their book.
